Such a beautiful song. I saw these guys when I was a kid. I remember being on my dad's shoulders so I could see.. Lol.. Grew up with these guys and many others. All Glory to God!

The whole album is great, but I love this song... Man, much of today's music has missed the message of these simple, but awesome songs...

I saw them in concert in Joplin, MO back in 87 on their "THIS MEANS WAR TOUR" & Stephen Curtis Chapman opened for them. I so wanted to talk to the members of Petra being a BIG fan but they did their set and left so fast your head could spin. But I did get to spend an hour talking to Stephen Curtis Chapman (which at that time was just rising to fame - never heard of him before). I can tell you this, Stephen was so genuine and down to earth. He gave me encouragement to continue with my music.
I met John once at the Dove awards in 2001. I was freaking out but he was super cool and gave me a high five!
@@rewindrecords3507 yeah, John was super nice when I met him too...he even asked me my name so he could sign my poster specifically to me. I will never forget that.
Tour schedule and deadline was the probability.
John was very kind when he spent time with me and other interns in a bible college summer program

I still have the cassette tape!! My uncle was 14 years older than me. He had Petra cassettes and gave them to me. I have hung onto them for many years.

When American Christian Rock unintentionally sounds like secular J-Pop! LOL! Though no longer a believer, I'm respectful to people of faith until they start denying science and hiding their homophobia behind Christianity.
Most of Petra's music sounds like it belongs behind an 80s workout montage or A-Team/Steven Segal "Weapons Modification" sequence.
During this song, I'm imagining a 2 or 3 guys of different ethnic backgrounds running, doing MMA, lifting weights, attaching silencers to firearms, testing a grenade launcher and just generally preparing for a big fight/car chase sequence against Neo Nazis, Communists or the Japanese Mob. The white guy is either Stallone or van Damme and there's a black and/or Hispanic guy and one of them has a wife in the hospital fighting for her life because of the Nazis/Communists/Japanese Mob. She will pull though at the end and if wasn't Christian Rock, this song will be in a beer-commercial in 6 months and this movie will be on VHS at Blockbuster Video.
This song speaks to my greatest spiritual struggle. I act like I believe I can conquer sin and battle my problems with my own effort. After I create disasters for myself, then I remember to pray. One of these days I'll convince my stubborn self to pray first.

Amen, my Father has been the true head of house as long as I've been able to remember. But, he knows that my Mother is there to support him and turns to her for support, comfort, and she always stands with him.

Sweet as! I just got the 'Petra Greatest Hits' CD, this isn't on it. That is sad, but, there are HEAPS of great Petra songs on there. My personal fav - Judas Kiss. Man these guys are so much better then the new Christian Music. I hate it that many artists now try to sound just like the world. Get some originality! These guys Rock! Cheers bro.

Yes, spend the needed time on your knees, but sooner or later you got to go back and battle, and no warrior does that only on their knees, you have to stand up, put on the full armour, and battle, but prayer is the most needed weapon you have...remember, we walk by faith, and not by sight, and if your Father is for you, then who can be against you?

The point is does it glorify God, does it encourage other Christians, does it draw people to Christ? Those, in my mind, are the guidelines for great Christian music. @sbasmaling make a song that sounds so much like the world with no mention of God, that you can only tell it's supposed to be Christian by the group which sings it. With as much music as is out in the world there will be some works that are quite close to others, and that's cool, it's not that which I was speaking of. Sorry for offending you. On another note, there will probably never be another Band like Petra. The days of that kind of music seem to be over. Days of autotune reign.
to...not AT sbasmaling. I had a mother-in-law that was Church of Christ. Hard Core. She swore everyone was a heathen or blasphemous if the name of their Church did not contain the word Christ. The baptist part of my family and the catholic part of my family were worshiping John the Baptist, and idols according to her...and the Jewish part, were Christ killers! and nothing more. Just a suggestion, why do you not get up there, in a large forum with proper permission, and make it mainstream?
