Y’all need some rain . Whew we have had over six inches here in Prince George, Va . Goldenrod is blooming and my neighbor has a half acre of sunflowers blooming strong and heavy. I cut grass around my place and the 17 hives I have , it was like driving in a mud bog . The sweet aroma is strong coming from my hives . Praying for a strong build up . I have close to four hundred pounds of granulated sugar ready for any emergency feeding. Hope you get some rain up thar soon .
Wow.. robbing season already.. Man it goes fast eh? We are just into our next honey flow starting yesterday.. mega hive traffic again.. so glad to see it... was slow for a few weeks there. Can you do a quick video detailing your escape boards? I'd like to build a few of those for my hives for this year. Keep up the great work Ian!
Your son looks like he will be ready for the football season. He has learned how to work. We got rain yesterday in MN and today the bees are pulling nectar and pollen like crazy. Radar showed you had some storms up there Saturday evening. Hope you caught some.
Do yourself a favor and get a copy of American Bee Journal November 2009. There is an article about canola the future as a major US honey plant. They talk of strong hives pulling in over 20 lbs of nectar a day. Over 500 lbs of honey from a strong hive. Being that canola is a cool weather crop could you plant a second round so you wouldn’t have to feed bees as much?
Maybe your Brother and you could grow More Concentrated, Green Manure 'Phacelia' in some fields to flower at this very time to extend the flow by 1 or 2 weeks, then plough in the green manure.
Do you store your extracted supers (for the winter) 'wet', and not let the bees rob them out clean. I guess wet since you have so many boxes to deal with!
Be interested to hear your final count on how many drums of honey for this year ,i think you said 300 last year, and if you make a profit , a lot of work on your part and the crew .
Reacting just to the title, I am thinking, REALLY? Don't you need to be in dearth first? But then I saw christian shannon's comment - no rain? oooooo Bees are smarter than I credited them...
The only reason robbing goes on is because most beekeeper's have there Hives touching one another me i have mine spaced about 8to10 foot apart and i have no robbing goes on what so ever

Wish I could send you some of our Irish rain, rainfall records in June and July appear to show rhe highest in 30 years!
You can have some of our rain, but we get none or to much. No tornadoes this year so that's something.

You can't winter bees with canola honey.. it crystallizes to fast.
crazyate9 I find when I feed bees heavy syrup it crystallizes in the comb. Also when you feed bees dry sugar in the winter what’s the difference?
@@larrytornetta9764 i donno i have also seen that.

Nice teamwork. Sure goes quick when everyone knows their job and can just do it without always needing to be told. How do you store your empty’s?
How are you storing your empties? Paramoth?
Hi Ian do you see a better seed set with bees on canola regards from West Aust
please, i would like to know the name of the mechanical arm, and if i can find it to buy in the market
Ian, are the crops your bees feed on irrigated or do you rely only on the rain?
Is it robbery though sounds more like a recoverery 🧐🤔

Honey robbing...hornets? Or other bees that most likely belong to the Apairy?
Bees who don't have necter to go after, and discover open honey.
Often from the very hive that the honey came off of.
