I saw them in the US shortly after Trump was elected. During No Surprises, after "they don't speak for us" Thom just stopped the song for several measures to let it sink it. Everyone went nuts. It was pretty powerful.
My favourite has got to be from the version of Anyone Can Play Guitar they played live at the MTV Beach House. That addition of 'fat, ugly, dead' always sends a shiver down my spine
also that clip of go to sleep reminded me of that other one where jonny's playing the solo and everyone else is facing him on the other side like its an anime guitar battle
I wish the studio version of The Gloaming was as funky as the live versions Edit: I also love the outro of Morning Bell peformed live, sounds like a thousand demonic children screaming out in pain. Colin using his cello (or upright bass?) to make the "whale noises" in the beginning of Pyramid Song was also really cool, I liked it way better than the bowed guitar. Edit 2: Jonny's (or Ed's) guitar in 1997 Belfort's edition of Planet Telex, really badass as to how it sounded like a siren fading out. Thom's rhythm guitar and his scatting in The National Anthem replacing the horns is also really cool. Jonny's radio in the song (and others) is also cool, adds a creepy and strange feeling to it. Last but not least: Jonny himself. Dude goes apeshit on stage for seemingly no reason
Morning Bell never did anything for me until I heard the version on 'I Might Be Wrong: Live Recordings' which I'm pretty sure is taken from that live performance you included. I was blown away when I heard that. There's so many instances with Radiohead where I prefer the live performances. Sometimes there's subtle changes and sometimes the song is a whole other arrangement. One of my absolute favourites is Kid A live at Berlin 2000. I also adore the early live versions of Down Is The New Up, especially the performance at MSG 06. Just a whole different fun vibe to the song.
yess i had the exact same experience with morning bell! its super cool how one small change can just boost one's appreciation for a song like that! kid a live is great too and i actually hadnt heard that performance of the new up, but listening to it now omg this arrangement of it is great too. another song i love live is in limbo (the in a tent performance specifically) i should've included in this vid... the lagging, glitchy guitar flourishes are *chefs kiss*
@@smekmaskinen3486 Funnily enough I was just watching the Pinkpop performance of In Limbo earlier today. The clarity of the drums makes the intro eargasmic. I'm gonna go check out that Tent performance now! Cheers.
oh one detail this reminded me of is something ive noticed in some live recordings of myxomatosis !! in the "that wasn't my intention, i did it for a reason" part ive seen them replicate the glitchy backup vocals by having ed sing the lyrics a beat after thom :D it sounds cool as hell i honestly wish they'd done it that way in the studio version
whaaat omg i didnt know this? i have to find some of those bcs the live myxos ive heard doesnt have that part (which i love in the studio ver) *_* im a sucker for live versions of the songs that have ed's backing vocals be more prominent, they always sound so cool
ooh youre right, he kinda does! interesting how in the FTB version the Craziness is pretty restrained and delegated to the end, while with later live performances he's way more unhinged straight from the start of the song lol
@@smekmaskinen3486 yeah, it probably has to do with the mixing aswell, i really love love love that version. the build up is more prominent like that. great content btw!
@@seyoumyuno true, the guitar in general is a bit more subtle... it is a great version! feral is such a great song for lives i feel, the times they play it they always take it some really fun direction. thank u :>c
0:50 fun fact, there are actually lyrics at that point but it’s hard to hear, but they’re actually some of my favorite Radiohead lyrics “The lights are on but nobody's home Everybody wants to be a friend The lights are on but nobody's home Nobody wants to be a slave Walkin', walkin', walkin', walkin' Walkin', walkin', walkin', walkin' Walkin', walkin', walkin', walkin' Walkin', walkin', walkin', walkin'”
One of my favourite live additions in a Radiohead song is Jonny's piano riffing during the final section of Karma Police. From what I've seen it's only really prominent on the Bonnaroo 2006 version, but it's beautiful
theres a good version of it in meeting people is easy that includes that sort of piano riffing and its really pretty, much better than the studio version imo
Exit Music at Bonnaroo 2006 Jonny does this eerie treble pick in the verse before the drums kick in. Absolutely haunting, stuck with me since that night seeing it there live, and fortunately the band finally uploaded the footage to TH-cam. Also, You, Maquiladora, and ACPG, and well most of their Live at Atoria London DVD are wild, and my preferred versions of most of these songs for some of the parts that are played and effects that are used
Was not disappointed to see Climbing Up The Walls. Studio version is good, but it’s probably my least favorite on OkC. The live version, however, is one of my favorite RH songs, period. The only other song that is elevated that much by their live version is The Gloaming, which you included as well. Nice list, didn’t disappoint!
You should check out the ending of 15 step when they played it in Seattle 2017. There’s a video of it uploaded by rc529. The way thom‘s vocals come in a bit later for the word “string” and then have that long delay on them… amazing
Cool seeing a clip of a show you were at on here. My biggest one of these is The Gloaming. A whole extra section focused on the bass which was incredible. *Edit: Apologies, you mention The Gloaming!
It's probably not included bc there's no video footage of it but my fav example is the harmonica in kid a from berlin 2000. Or the lead guitar on early versions of videotape
You forgot the added line "Faster, Johnny!" in Idioteque
I absolutely adore Jonny so much. Bro is literally just turning a switch up and down and is acting like he’s shredding a fucking solo, HE’S SO ICONIC.
Radiohead turned into an edm band for a sec there with Idioteque
More like EM
Faster Johnny!
Jonny really gonna aggressively headbang at anything that he hears.

this is. so cool
5:28 my dad: here’s a new vinyl record that I got tired of. You can play it on your record player
The record’s condition:
I saw them in the US shortly after Trump was elected. During No Surprises, after "they don't speak for us" Thom just stopped the song for several measures to let it sink it. Everyone went nuts. It was pretty powerful.
which show was it?

jonny playing exit music is ETHEREAL live. the mellotron during "now we are one" is completely different than how he plays in the studio version

The I might be wrong album has the best version of all songs on it
The picking pattern for “Present tense” is slightly different in the live performances I’ve seen

also "looking in the wrong place" is a contrast to "everything in its right place", both songs being the start of their album
