I have been looking everywhere for this recipe. My ouma used to make this for me when I was little and she died before I could ask her for the recipe I was still very young, now one day I can make it for my children and grandchildren I’ll call it “ouma’s slap pap” grandmas limp porridge she called it slap pap.
This is so wholesome🤭 my granny also used to make it for me, with water though, and you add the milk after, some butter, sugar and sometimes vinegar 🤤🤤🤤 SLAPPED!
I grew up with a caretaker who was also our maid. This is a very common profession for women in South Africa. I loved our caretaker so much. She made mieliepap for my sisters and I every morning and it was so delicious. We moved to a new province within South Africa, so we had to leave her :( She also taught us some Zulu, but I barely remember it since I was very young back then. Now I am learning to make mieliepap for myself as nobody else in my household enjoys is. I still mess it up, but I am learning. Sometimes I make too much pap or comes out too droopy and wet or too stiff 🤷🏼♀️. But I will give this recipe a go.
