  • If you end up getting this game, please give my dungeon a shot and let me know what you think of it. Feedback would be much appreciated. If not, I hope you enjoyed my playthrough of it here. Figured my fans would be interested in seeing what I made.
And would you look at that. My first review code for a game. Very exciting. I'm like a real big boy TH-camr now. In fact, I've received a couple other review codes already that I'm going to be doing videos on shortly.
In case you're wondering, I reached out to the devs for these. I was going to play these games regardless. And these are my totally honest thoughts. So I haven't sold out yet. Technically.
btw, I have no idea why that is my profile picture in the game. I haven't used that as my Steam profile picture in years. But if anyone can identify that image, then you have a bit of hint to the origin of my username.
You can support me here if you want. ko-fi.com/pari...

I'm really surprised to hear that you never played Super Mario Maker. I really thought that game would be right up your alley

You did a really good job by utilizing the tools the game gives you to make your level as challenging as possible, well done.

That dungeon you make looks genuinely good. Some of the challenges give me rhythm game vibes

Mario Maker didn't have that many different elements when it first came out, but it had a ton of interactions. Lots of clever things were done with different arrangements of enemies and objects (Lakitu clouds, igniting bombs, crushing blocks/enemies, etc).
I do hope that kind of stuff gets implemented here.

24:17 When you're designing levels, creator bias is definitely something to look out for. Excessive playtesting might give you an advantage over people who don't know the layout first hand. Forcing the player to play this in one go, from the looks of it, is really demanding because this is definitely on the harder side of the difficulty scale. With an abundance of HP in the dungeon itself, you're pretty much expected to recover full health before each segment anyway, so my suggestion is to remove the block that spawns when you die while leaving everything else untouched. (Stakes are lower but for eliminating the annoying factor of playing a repeat section I think it's a fair trade off)

I did think it was maybe being a bit overly strict. But I like having consequences to death, and this was really the only way to do it.

I've kept an eye on this since the very first demo and it always seemed to be in this state of "could be great with more updates". The fact it still feels this way at launch is concerning, a game that already went through Early Access should feel "complete" and content updates would just add to it.
It doesn't just need more content, it needs systems. A lot of your suggestions like loadouts, currency and more ways to customize elements are brand new systems currently not in the game. I'll add that it needs better level browsing options and a reason to play levels. If people only have fun building and get sick of playing because it's all samey, their own dungeons will not get played either. But systems are tricky to add, which is why that should be done *DURING* Early Access... That's the whole point of alphas, betas and EA in general.
Its closest comparison is Levelhead, another $20 indie level builder that had an early access and 2-3 devs, yet did not feel incomplete at launch. The content was limited but you could configure items to make very unique levels and the level browsing was MUCH more fleshed out. It also didn't suffer from crashes and had a full single-player campaign.

would you ever consider playing and reviewing user made levels for games like mario maker or megaman maker? Id like to see your thoughts on me and many other people's levels.

0:00, I can't tell if you're serious, please elaborate. Big studios put in a lot of effort in their games.

Cool dungeon, really. Although, I think allowing the player to revive after opening the boss door would be nice. Having to go through all the tedium after losing to a clearly difficult boss is just not enjoyable.

so its an unfinished and shallow game that only lives on promise of becoming better, but considering its current state, which developers call full release, i dont think they have the vision or creative capacity to make it.

This looks really cool, and I have the utmost respect for the developers- but fuck now even indie games are releasing unfinished? That's one thing I fucking hate about modern gaming, and now it's even started infecting indies. Paying to be a bug tester under the guise of "early access" was already really shitty but now it's been taken to a new level.
It's something we've just sort of forgotten over time because of how it's gradually gotten worse and worse since mid 7th gen, but *a released product should be finished.* Patches and updates for a primarily single-player game should be to fix issues that weren't caught during development, not to finish the fucking game.
Once again- game looks rad, the devs are making something awesome. But it drives me insane to see this loathed aspect of modern games, now bringing down even indies, which have been mostly safe from this type of bullshit since their inception, due to being passion projects and not having a hard set deadline or a shitty publisher forcing the game to release before Christmas or something.
There is no reason for this.

      Indie devs either:
      a) do games after work hours and features that take days of work will be made within months. At some point dev can be annoyed that they still are not making money from their work after years, so they decide that the game at the moment is good enough to release.
      b) make games full time and delays in the game result in delays in meals. No paycheck until the game is released
In short - delays = no money.

I played a bit of shadows of doubt in early access, still super excited for it, but it reminded me why I don't play games innearly access

    • @aortaplatinum
      @aortaplatinum ปีที่แล้ว

@@tivvy2vs21 Right, an in-development demo is cool, but you shouldn't be charging people to play an unfinished game. Unfortunately this is almost always the case with most modern releases, but I guess at least some devs and publishers have the honesty to label it "early access" so you know just HOW unfinished it is at the time

@@aortaplatinum I'm fine with buying it to fund development, but maybe a return to shareware would be good for this
