Honestly I'm glad that safer seas is finally happening. I'm beyond tired of being crept up on, and forced into a "PVP" situation. Pvp requires the other person, who's being fired upon, to fire back. However, 9 times out of 10, that isn't how it goes. It happens to people like me, who really don't bother with pvp, and who'd rather just go after skulls, forts, etc. Only to get snuck up on, and completely dusted with cannon balls, and those stupid, chain shot, mast killers. I get shit talked, and sunk in seconds, because some bubble headed troll wants another pointless kill.
As a retired Pirate Legend, I can attest to your weariness, even here on pc I still feel the exhaustion. I too am thrilled that Safer Seas is an option now, now that I can restart from the bottom. That I can save up for my ships, just once around the Sunken Shrines and a single treasury was enough to net me 102,000 gold. That's not even with the bonus of being emissary, I don't mind that Safer Seas got kneecapped. I just know the developers are trying to entice us back to High Seas. But for me, that enticement may not be worth it, it isn't that I don't want to play on high seas, I just don't see the point anymore. Arena used to be a thing for the PVP'ers, but I know if I critique much further people will have angry words for me.
As someone who played day 1 and was relentlessly griefed by other players, safer seas has bought me back to the game after all these years. I'm having so much fun playing the game. The amount of times I've loaded into a game and my ship is under attack before I've picked up my first banana is unreal. So I'll never leave safe seas. Having a mint time with it.
Safer Seas is everything I could have asked for. I got tired of Sea of Thieves because of all the Tryhard PVP players when all I wanted to do was some tall tales or just experience forts. I don't mind the level cap, the locked factions, or even the reduced gold earned (though I wish it was 50% instead of 30%). I'm already a Pirate Legend, and frankly, I don't feel like grinding out levels for Athena's anyway. I do however, want to finish my Tall Tales and just be free to complete things I can't usually do, courtesy of PVP tryhards. I hope Rare will consider slightly buffing the gold earned to 50% though. Cosmetics are expensive, and it'd be nice to at least earn a reasonable amount per item turned in since we can't boost our earnings in Safer Seas (no emissaries or reaper's).
I'm of a mind with you@@Pikmaniak That fort hasn't been worth it in a very long time. A lot of players would use it as bait for other crews, it was pretty predictable really and the paranoia you'd feel really killed the fun. When I saw the skeleton curse given only to the level 75 reapers I was like "that's boring in comparison to what is already in the shop. Sure it's cool that there is another curse, but this long since the last one? it's kinda a let down.
I hope they eventually do private servers. The idea of friends vs friends sounds more fun than random toxic players. They can still keep the basis of safer seas but allow players and their friends to all sorts of high jinks.
When you manage to land an hourglass match together, it is arguably the most dumb fun you could have! Needless over shots for boarding, trolling your team mate with lack luster steering and ramming for glory. It's too funny! [edit: I'm agreeing with you, Private PVP matches would be the icing on the cake]
@@Millbear1 There is one day I recall, on Console, with just a couple friends, and we were attacked by a 2 man sloop crew. Of course we killed them and sunk their boat, but they would come at us twice more that day. Both attempts meeting with the same result, once I had ranged their ship I landed shot after shot on them. Back then I was a master at cannons, but I've gotten very rusty now. Though to be fair, I'm happy with that.
@@Millbear1 That sounds like fun. Private server could help bring new life to the game for tournaments and even esports (I don't watch esports, but it could make the community even larger.)
Plan to play this with my young niece. We don't really care about rewards (though I'm sure she'll be interested in picking out sails, clothes, etc), so I don't think we'll miss much. I'm not ready to introduce her to the wild west of online gaming. When I'm solo I don't mind high seas, but this is just a nice way to kick back and relax with a little human who's just excited to be sailing on the water or playing sea shanties.
It's funny when people say that having a PVE mode will make a game die; because it only brings in more people who will: 1.) buy the game 2.) potentially buy the season passes. If anything, it's a net gain in money for the developer/publisher, and eventually a net gain of people who will feel the call to go onto the High Seas. The game will die when people stop buying it, or stop paying for the microtransaction/cosmetics.
I think this is a great idea. All of these toxic players that sink you for no reason (even when you tell them you have absolutely no loot) are killing this game. They don't want the game to die out, but it is because of them. I know about 50 people that will not play this game because of those players. They just want to have fun and sail around and enjoy the pretty map, but they can't because the majority of people in this game have never touched grass. I'm fairly good at this game and I won't be doing safer seas for myself, but sometimes my 4 year old wants to play with me, but we get sunk by some sweat for no reason and she gets sad. All she likes to do is sail around and look at the pretty scenery and I tell people, "Hey bro I'm just playing with my daughter. She's 4 and just trying to have fun. Please don't sink us." Honestly, for some sick reason, that makes them want to sink us even more. When they find out she's a little girl trying to have fun. I actually stopped playing this game back in May because I didn't like the way my daughter was treated. I'm going to start playing with her again now once safer seas drops. Now that they're won't be these sick sweaty try hards. You guys are killing this game I hope you know. I give it at max a year and this game will be completely dead because of you. Then you'll be crying, "No one plays this game anymore! It's dead!" And you'll blame the devs or something else, when really it's all on you. I'm calling it right now.
Cry it's how the game goes. It's a sandbox people can do whatever they want that's the whole point. If you sink then fight back. Or you know just get over it it's how the game works if you don't like it then uninstall. Full stop.
@@J4F9 yeaaaah.. see, here's the thing, it's actually people like you, who really hate the fact, that the decent people in the game get their own "world" to mess around in and have fun, where you can't go after them. I see countless comments, like yours, saying "oh if you can't handle it, then go play minecraft.". But see, here's the thing, yes you're allowed to play however you wish, but so are the people who don't pvp. So don't just say "oh that's how the game is." BECAUSE we always have a choice. Unfortunately, for people like you, you always make the wrong choice, and go after people, for legitimately no real reason. It's pretty funny, because all of you "master pvp players" are finally going to get a taste of how it's been for us, being forced into pvp situations when we're minding our own business, getting chased down for a half hour, and ultimately dusted with cannon balls, and chain shot. Only to have someone shit talk you, demoralize you, and make you feel like garbage while you're ship sinks. I hope you enjoy that. The whole SoT community is toxic as hell, because of players like you. Pirate game, or not, we always have a choice to be decent people. Think about it from the other side of things. I'm sure you wouldn't wanna be constantly screwed with like that.
Coming from someone who did old ranked mode and someone who still actively does hourglass, I actively cry tears of joy knowing there’s a place I can go to actually relax in this game now.
Should also mention that Fort of the Damned and Fort of Fortunes cannot be completing on safer seas servers, meaning that the Chest of Fortune commendations are exclusive to high seas.
L0n3w0lf-YT is correct. Here's a quote from the FAQ: "Fort of the Damned is still there, but you cannot light all the lanterns or find a Ritual Skull or Skull of Destiny to start the event" Also: Does the Fort of Fortune appear in Safer Seas? The Fort of Fortune is not available in Safer Seas. From my understand, Skeleton Forts, which I'm assuming is the Skulls that flash green instead of Red, are still available. I think the reasoning a FoF is not available is that it contains Athena Loot, but that's just me speculating.
@@Millbear1 Yeah, having regular skull forts would be good for fishing commendations for gamers looking to complete those. As a PvP enthusiast, I'll still go with activating FOTD on high seas so I can fight boats every now and then XD
ive lost my chance to kill the shrouded ghost because of other players coming in to sink me in the middle of it i dont care what you call me but experiencing shit like that is exactly why i dont want to be in high seas unless im with a crew of friends so im thankful to be able to play by myself at my own pace
@@Millbear1I lost 350k to solo player that ran cheats even told me as I shot him with my keen eye that he was in his mode and could t die I play safer seas because of asses like thst
Me and my buds can only get together once every few weeks if we're lucky to have a night of gaming. Safer Seas is going to be perfect for that, so we can relax on our day off and just chill out. Never have the opportunity to practice/don't want to practice alone, so it'll be great having a chill place to sail the seas and find treasure in without losing all the progress in a bad minute, haha.
I just started few weeks ago, because i hoped SoT is about the social aspect, like meeting new friends and doing stupid stuff. Well most of what i got was french people shouting at me, or people sinking my empty ship when i was treasure hunting. Like ok, i get im going to get attacked, but why when im not on the ship? That cant evwn be fun? Like you are shooting at a static target? That wont fight back? Why? And when i sail back to get revenge they start running. So yeah, safer seas it is. Because this aint even PvP, this is PvEmptyShip
Sacre bleu! Don't forget, you can always mute other crews text and voice next time your out and about on the High Seas. Safe seas is released now so sail your heart away!
Gotta say as someone who had to trudge through the muck and become a pirate legend through solo sloops im glad to see this come, I can finnaly relax and pass down my knowledge and experience to new pirates in a mostly calm and tame sea.
Never thought to suggest other Discords, other than SOTAU and the main one, I'm assuming is in the states, maybe there are others that I should link the descriptions for solo players to help themselves find a first mate.
Actually so glad they finally done this, a while ago people were making joke videos about a passive mode and I thought a non PVP mode would be a really good idea and really glad they have actually made it now I can sit back and have a chill playing this brilliant game!!!!
Agreed, only downside in my opinion is in the last 10ish hours of play I’ve only made about 45-50k gold, high seas has emissaries but I don’t get why they’re not a thing here as it’s not a multiplayer thing as you can do it solo in high seas, why not do another nerf to it in safer seas?
@@Gazookabecause the emmisary mechanic exists specifically to create a risk/reward situation for you and incentive for pvpers to sink you. That's the sole reason it exists... It's not just a free gold multiplier... Lol
as a retired pirate legend, I love safer seas, sure the money comes in slower, but I love safer seas because I can cruise the seas, I can save up cash, and I can just be me without having to be paranoid about selling when I'm not ready.
@@Millbear1 ya know, what I really feel pity about being a pirate legend is that everything down below in the athena's hideout is that everything is so damned over priced that it's barely worth it. Sure you get a sea shanty and a curse, but is being a pirate legend worth it in my opinion?. Not really, the higher level you get, the less and less there is to do until you've seen it all, done it all, and just don't have anything left.
@@forexed8948 currently having that same battle with myself as I farm hourglass... Is it really worth my sanity? Nothing wrong with taking a break from the game too if it starys to get a bit stale! I'll be dipping into Baldurs Gate soon for sure to mix things up
@@Millbear1 I took a break from it after getting a bunch of the ghost stuff from the athena's shop down below. It's when I discovered that I had basically robbed myself of so much time and enjoyment. Being a pirate legend really isn't worth the headaches you get, I had all the curses released up to then. The exception being this new skeletal curse for the Reapers Bones. In all honesty, the hardest one to get is the Gold Hoarders Curse. For that you need to fully complete all the tales in the Shores of Gold series, starting at Shroudbreaker and ending at Shores Of Gold. In my "professional pirate" (thanks Tim Curry) opinion, if you want to look like a gold hoarder, go for it, but if you don't, you're not missing anything. My personal favorite is the coral curse achieved by completing the mermaid shrines and it's successive quest from Larinna. Sure the Ashen curse is cool, but once you have your gear on, all you say is the face, unless you go half dressed.
they should put it to 50% and have your own ship, the rest idc about. I mean I think they would get more players if they didn't focus on PvP, we got to many PvP games now. I just want to sail the sea.
Always been interested in the game but i'm not really into PVP. I just want to chill, sail for a bit maybe do a mission and log out. If I can do that I'll buy on December.
I couldn't have put it better! Safer seas is now out and I have been enjoying the chill laid back experience! I tried to get better and grapple with the PVP of this game for years but could never do it and this is the perfect mode! You've earned a sub! Awesome vid!
I enjoy the random interactions on high seas. Safer seas doesnt make me annoyed or angry at all. People will choose how they want to play and thats that.
@@Millbear1 That's totally okay, bro. Do whatever makes you happy the majority of the time. If thats safer seas, so be it. If its high seas, so be it. You bought the game, same as me. The goal is to enjoy your experience however you wish. I've been a solo slooper since day 1. Just how I enjoy the game. Hell, I've been trying to do glitterbeard for over a year now lol. Just something exhilarating about another team rolling up on ya at any time that makes it fun for me. Happy holidays bro!
When the game launched it took me 53 days to hit PL (1k forts before commendation nerf), PVP now, compared to the very early days is soft as fuck but let me tell you, im excited to get back to farming skele ships and other commendations without the massive time drain/distraction that is PVP, if you sink you'll come back, if i sink ill come back next thing you know we've wasted hours and actually achieved nothing. I welcome this change and I'm sure so will my 6 year old who hit PL over a year ago and his mother who could do without me making them sweat and tryhard when sociopaths come knocking 😂
I love safer seas, because I've heard one too many times other players who take the "pirate" thing FAR too seriously. Sure it's called "Sea Of Thieves" and you need to expect to be attacked by other crews and or players, and I'm good at both PVP and PVE, but I prefer PVE far more, and I just like to sail and enjoy the game more then I like fighting other players, it's just my play style. As a Pirate Legend I put myself out there on console, to help out my friends if need be, but on PC, it's all about me, about me enjoying the game for the first time in a long time. Being able to go at my own pace, to really enjoy the tall tales again, and just make new experiences in Safer Seas where I don't have some try hard trying to show he's tough just because he can.
I have a couple friends who would otherwise be hesitant to jump into the game at all, because they hate the frustration of trying to get a handle on a game while being repeatedly trounced by experienced players. I think this will bring more people into the game, and even into PVP. Not everyone likes the "trial by fire" approach of learning a game. And some just might want to tool around in the world and have a chill time. Those players would never have been ones to join the regular game anyway, so I don't believe this change is going to be taking any player base away from the PVP. Quite the contrary; it may cause more people to get into the game, and eventually even into PVP.
As mentioned in another comment, if they had brought out some sort of Private PVP server as well then that would have been the icing on the cake. Just for those that do want to get involved in PVP later on down the line. Glad your friends are able to enjoy the game at their own pace!
I reached pirate legend and have no intention on leveling it because i already have the cosmetics i want anyway and already went through the shit that is pvp and once it comes out im never gonna be in high seas ever
As a proud member of "I only purchased sot after I heard they got safer seas", i can say it's up to rare if they want more money once my friends and I max to 40 and run out of content. I have like two hours or so twice, maybe three times a week to play games at all. I can't spend that precious time frustrated and sunk. We paid our money. We'll get to 40 and uninstall. Maybe we come back once rare releases more to safer seas. My point is this: we of the safer seas aren't coming to high seas. We'll go play other games.
Yeah this is kinda lame? I’ve lost an entire day worth of loot before many times. If you can’t get over that, this game isn’t for you. Bye after you get to 40 I guess lol. The safer seas population leaving isn’t destroying the game
And i don't want it to destroy the game. I'm enjoying a little piece of it wirh some friends. I never bought sot before safer seas because I knew it wasn't my thing. The release of safer seas actually helps bring in people like me that would've never picked it up otherwise
@@dracothegreat1 and I don’t want you to quit after maxing out safer seas because you’re afraid of sinking and losing progress. I want you to try the high seas when you’re comfortable and continue playing the game, especially if you enjoy it. Not every experience with other players will be a negative one
@@Baneofvader It has more to do with the time we have to play. At two or so hours twice or three times a week, the "Win or learn" Strategy (that I fully support and encourage in every facet of life) just means I'd spend months losing. I could also be having fun elsewhere and not be sank and frustrated. Or end up on someone's video/stream being called a noob. I hope the game does well, I hope the game eventually unlocks more in safer seas because where else can i sail around with my friends and play music and drink grog and ask why the rum is gone over and over. Safer Seas allows us to do that. In High Seas? Someone comes along and sinks us and takes the supplies and loot it took us an hour to get. (That's half a play session for us and sometimes a quarter of the time we even have for the week. An hour might mean nothing to someone who has lost a day's worth of progress. It's a lot for us.) It surprises me how much of the SoT community just isn't okay with we of the safer seas not bothering the High Seas players at all. Like we're minding too much of our own business. lol You genuinely seem cool, though. I've no doubt you'd sink us and at least say GG about it. lol
@@dracothegreat1 Naww not all of us go around looking for pvp every two seconds. The ones who usually do want pvp, have a big red flag on the map that allows you to see them at all times. I primarily just like seeing other players boats sail by and doing things. I love seeing the world being alive and active, that’s how I’d imagine at least minimum 50% of the player base feels as well. I guess I can understand what you mean though especially with how little time you actually have to play the game. I’m not trying to line force you to go into high seas instead of safer seas, I’d just rather you do that than quit after maxing out safer seas. Like had you not commented that you planned on quitting, I probably wouldn’t have replied to you because you’d at least continue playing and enjoying the game. However, I also do think they should increase safer seas past 40. Pirate legend has been out for nearly 7 years now and there’s no reason to stop people from hitting it in private
Super excited for the safer seas update, it will make the game so much more enjoyable for newer players who just want to sail around and explore without worrying about PvP sweat goblins jumping them every five minutes.
As someone who played sot before they added safer seas, I understand that people wish to not be bothered while grinding, but the only grind that can be done in safer seas is certain commendations such as the hunter call's, otherwise anything else is just better to be done in higher seas
I have only played sea of thieves four separate times because the multiplayer was mandatory and in order to play on my own I had to break the lobby through a connection test exploit which didn't always work. I will be playing more since I can farm out what I can in solo and only then would I go into multiplayer for the remainder of the game. This is a game mode that should have been in the game from the very beginning not after adding onto the game and making things super convoluted.
Speaking as someone who was introduced to SoT in early 2020, and then immediately thrown into Reapers so I could get a grasp of the combat right away: Safer Seas has always been iffy for me. Sea of Thieves after all is a 'high risk, high reward' game, and so removing the risk presents you with nothing but reward which to me kills the feeling of having earned a title or a cosmetic. Nothing is more thrilling than having a couple hours worth of loot onboard and seeing a player ship hightailing it towards you in the distance for a chance at your haul - every fight and player sunk in defense of what you've worked for makes it that much more valuable, even if for a couple of chests. HOWEVER, I do agree with the way Safer Seas has balanced what is earnable. Especially seeing as some Forts are supposedly locked which doesn't take too much away from those who've earned their titles without Safer Seas. My worry would be the kinds of players who dislike challenges as a whole - why even risk competition when you have the option to remove it entirely? Though it's not their choice to remove player threats that can damage their experience with the game, it's that they can only become so experienced in PvE enviroments, that having to fend for themselves in PvP would be incredibly disheartening after religiously playing Safer Seas. I do like the concept of Safer Seas, but my Solo Sloop experiences of meeting the bottom of the ocean over and over only boasted my ability to handle myself in combat - had I removed PvP combat entirely from the game when I first started, I'm worried I would have grown to comfortable with Safer Seas to experience anything else the game had to offer because it would be too intimidating. This is a great video, and a bit of a complex topic.
I think we're pretty much in the same boat here. Only recently I had two sloops in an alliance trying to chase my brig for all the loot we had stacked, which was a good couple of hours worth. Even if you don't start out with idea of stacking, the moment you get a small pile, all of a sudden you become Smaug from the Hobbit and every single coin is yours to hoard, no one elses! I still get the kick of adrenaline when it happens, especially if you have to defend it with your masts down. But as you said, I'm trying to see it from a perspective of other players. In my High Seas video, the amount of people commenting that they were tired of wasting time and energy on the game because people want to "Pirate in a Pirate game" is disheartening. And even then, peoples idea of being a Pirate can be vastly different. I liken it in a way when some multiplayer games used to have a single player campaign slapped on almost like a tutorial. Or even bots would be useful substitute. But I'm not sure how applicable that would be to SoT. I appreciate the well thought out reply though, thanks for the comment!
I'm not as convinced about the 'high risk, high reward' aspect as you are. For the majority of confrontations one side has a clear and distinct advantage to winning while the other has nothing to gain. I could spend the next 40 minutes trying to sink you, but other than the satisfaction of seeing your boat dip below the waves one final time there's nothing in it for me. Chances are you had no loot to speak of and were just seeking an opportunity to grab hours of work right off my deck. It's almost always lopsided, and thus a player needs to weigh the risks with the rewards. Small wonder that so many choose to flee and escape their pursuers or, knowing that they're toast anyway, sail into the red sea to at least deny your opponent the satisfaction of your hard work.
When I started, it felt like I lost out on the natural beauty of the game in the fast paced psuedonaval life of the usual crew. When I try open crew, it's usually those who have to be guided to what needs done, only a few actual good players, and a couple who were notably horrible - both recent. (First hid treasure, *demanded* that we do hourglass pvp, and force stalled the ship in a temper tantrum when we wouldn't drop our treasure for pvp that we weren't prepared for. Second was just today, a griefer. Used up all our blunderbombs to make it so we couldn't do anything but crunch up against Reapers, and couldn't fix the damn hole, and then he dipped as soon as the ship sank - god forbid he face the consequences of his own actions) I can't imagine trying to do a tall tale, or just vibe, with this streak of luck.
I'll admit, Open crew can be a mixed bag, mostly on the wilder variety, but you do get some gems in there. If you roll in expecting it to be wild then you're good, because chances are you're not going to get anything you wanted done with up to 4 would-be captains trying to helm the ship in all 4 different directions. I would never tall tale on open crew. It's indecisive enough as it is, I can't imagine trying to calm the itchy trigger fingers of the hungry pvprs in open crew. Personally I hate when people join, vacuum up really good supplies and cursed cannonballs then realise it's not the game for them and don't put it back. Bubai 5 pineapples and 5 cursed balls of different varieties! 😂
The only reason why I would use this mode is to sail when I have limited time to play the game, other than that I maxed out the three main factions and now just grinding the rest
I just tried to do a bit of solo fishing, couldn't do it for more than 5 minutes. But I'm glad others are able to get enjoyment out of it and able to do it peacefully!
As someone who has beach combed to pirate legend rank for the last five years. My sympathies to the sweat lord PvP community of sea of thieves is non existent. Some of you have thousands of hours, rich enough to buy everything in the game and can show off the cutscenes of curse’s multiple times. And in the entire time I have never seen you sweat lords teach people your skills once or you’ll immediately bail on a new players because you can’t be bothered.
Great vid - Only recently started getting into Sea of Thieves and didn't know this mode was coming. I don't think it's for me, as I enjoy the player interactions, but it's nice to know what it is and how it works.
Thanks you for the kind words! If you're a social butterfly you should definitely dive into High Seas straight away. Open crew, or find your local discord and make some friends who play regularly! It's a blast!
I will be using safer seas to learn new content, do adventures/tall tales, and acquire comidations. And to unlock certain items that take forever to unlock.
And you're precisely who this game mode is aimed at! It's a shame we won't be able to experience the new Siren Skull voyage this way. But if it ticks off some of the more chore like commendations out of the way, it's a win win.
I just got sea of thieves a week ago and if I’m honest I was scared of the high seas so I played safer seas to kinda understand how to take forts down and park my boat etc but now I love the high seas it makes sense to me and is hard as hell at times (I’m a solo player) but it makes cashing in your loot that much more rewarding. Play safe to get your barring, play high seas for the win
after playing Safer Seas I realize that High Seas isn't much different. The only thing Safer Seas has over it is a garuntee that people won't be around when you want to do tall tales which is perfect. In fact just today we found 4 crews willing to do Glitterbeard and not a single one cared about pvp
Feels like xbox servers are already empty. Once in a while i might see a reaper ship but theyre always a pve reaper runner. I cant wait for safer seas so I can stack kegs all around the entire map then detonate the whole game.
@@TouYube886 or rare can just swallow their pride, and give us safer seas players the ability to play the entire game the way we want. Its not gonna kill the pvp side of things. Those who wanna fight can, and those who don't wanna don't have to.
I do kind of wish you could have more than one crew. Not for PvP among friends (though that is honestly a good idea I think) but because sometimes its fun to tool around with two boats instead of one. Yacht racing, anyone? My dad just got SoT and we've been playing on safer seas. I made PL a couple years ago but I never really cared for PvP because I never really got good at it, though I've gotten very good at running and can outsail a lot of people. Safer seas is still nice for me since I just enjoy the PvE gameplay, even if I can't progress anymore on it.
A bit of Private PVP would have been really fun! We've managed to match a couple of friends in Hourglass a few times and it's always been a blast. Good practice too!
I had post upload clarity about that clip the moment I uploaded it too. But good to point out in case others misinterpret it. FotD is not possible in Safer Seas.
Good luck to the newer people using safer seas... its of no use to me because I already have max rep in every faction but its a good addition to the game. Shit might as well argue it'll make the pvp content better because nobody will be in there without expecting it now
You'll definitely know what you're signing up to once switching from Safer Seas. Let's hope they didn't leave the Reaper Flag on in their crows nest...

@@Zakplayz62 Either do a full pve version or stick with the pvp version. You can do a great pve version of a pirate game but not by half-arsing it, like this.
My only worry is that I’m already seeing PVE players asking for them to get rid of the gold and rep penalties and make the Safer Seas literally High Seas but private servers. If Rare ever actually did this it would completely ruin the game and get rid of any sort of risk or challenge
No, because there would still be PVP servers. Most games have both, even most games with open world PVP have pve zones and theres just exclusive content and increased rewards for the PVP stuff. They could easily make the game more pve friendly and it would increase the player base by a massive amount.
@@lekkai7473 sure but why would people play on a pvp server if it’s more lucrative to grind out everything on a server without threats? Playing on high seas would just be intentionally putting yourself at a disadvantage. Also pve only zones sound like they could be easily abused or exploited
@@thehauntedpotato6125 you play it for pvp, but it wouldn't be the same. there would always be more rewards for PVP, possibly even the best events like forts and new ones would only be PVP. thats how the game should be designed. high risk pvp events, currently, you have the same risk doing solo treasure digging because any 3-4 group can just come kill you for no reason. also, if your concern is less players PVPing because they want to PVE, that means you would rather fight people who don't want to pvp in the first place and probably are picking on smaller and newer crews.
@@Millbear1 i did the first one in full because I wanted the cannons, and I did the 5th one for the wild rose ship set ages ago as it's so pretty, any other time I did tall tales I did it just to show my friends who were new to SoT at the time. This game is filled with individuals who just want to impose them selvs on other players who want nothing to do with them. But there are some cool players as well..just not you midnight
Liked and subbed. I'm a PL with ~1000 hours in, and have no interest in PvP. I won't exclusively sail in Safer Seas, but I will most of the time, and as you said, it will draw in more players than it will isolate, and it will feed the servers with new blood who will want to go for PL and the commendations at some point.
I am afraid of the future of this game because I swear within 6 months higher seas will be so damn dangerous that you will have to go to safer seas just to train to be as good as anyone on higher seas
I can't see that happening, if anything it'll be because other players got dragged away to other games. I've noticed a player dip since Lethal Company and The Finals came out. I'm playing Spider-Man 2 right now. People will pop back on when they've tried the new shiny stuff.
It doesn't seem any different than a game having a singleplayer, all this is going to do is bring new players in and old players back. It's honestly a win win
4:13 Thats exactly how I feel about the state of the game. Yes, now the crews are ready to fight, but I've met only 1 crew that came from safer seas. All the other crews are veterans, and the servers are dead. The way I see it too many ppl view s.s. as an alternative to the main mode, whuch it was never intended to be. And this really messes with server population
It's early days yet, it's been less than a month since Safer Seas was released so I'd imagine there would be an expected dip in High Seas players temporarily. A lot (but not everyone) will come back to High Seas once the shine of the new toy has worn off. [REMIND ME IN 6 MONTHS IF I'M WRONG AND THE GAME IS DEAD]
Unfortunately not. Our Sword Fighting event next week involved the Admin of the SOTAU discord to get in contact with someone at Rare for a temporary private server. If you're an official content creator you may have access but I can't confirm that.
@@bloepie2661And this is precisely why I side-eye Rare's whole anti-pve approach so far. The fact streamers asked for and received private servers to run big events prove that there's huge demand for this. Regular players want to host these events too. But gatekeeping private servers to the most influential essentially creates two classes of player. And besides all that... When a streamer needs a private server to host a harrassment-free event, something about your game is fundamentally broken and a breeding ground for toxicity.
@@koop-xcie7715 assuming thats true, that sucks, you can't even gally in safer seas. like, i got 1 friend who doesn't mind pvp, and 2 more who actively don't play sot because of pvp, and once safer seas drops it'd be fun to just chill and hang out like we did when we 1st played the game
So I play both for example I'll play high seas if I want the thrill or need to stack gold/day bloons But I'll play safer seas if I don't want to deal with people I've had days on high seas where I wo t see a coin because I keep getting boarded or players where wait till I go to sell and get jumped while I'm off my ship yes this is a pirate game yes your gonna get jumped your shipe wreaked and laughed at but if I'm not getting anywhere I'll go get safe seas to cool off
I'm not entirely sure that's true unfortunately. Being an online only game, I think that means it'll be more individuals on individual servers. What that will do for server stability I don't know.
I don’t like it because I think it teaches players wrong and they will get that taste of high seas value, and won’t be able to turn back and can’t PvP, leading to them eventually leaving the game. I see the pros I just don’t think it’s good for some people but thinking about it there are actually good reasons for players like me to like it. Ok maybe only one reason and it’s more of a theory but it’s likely to happen. Safer seas will undoubtedly bring tons of people to the game and hence, more money to rare so we can start getting actually good content again (let’s be honest updates have not been good since season 8, I liked sirens skull but it’s a matter of time until it stops being interesting) Thank you for reading my crazy long comment
The Sirens song skull has had a mixed response, majority of the time it goes uncontested, but I've had a few good scraps for them with some friends. Reg Safer seas: I try to think of it as offering an avenue for players who would otherwise not be playing the game at all anyway. The carrot of High Seas will always be there when they're ready.
I already don't play the game because of the constant PvP that won't allow me to get the basic commendations out of the way. Safer Seas allows for this to lessen the burden of tasks that has accumulated massively since the games release. Still wish content added to games later on is to be locked behind the main story of the game so you don't get thrown a bunch of clutter right at the start.
I think the people that would quit after getting killed on High Seas would quit High Seas regardless of whether safer seas was available. The difference is with safer seas, some of them will still have the game downloaded when a friend invites them to play high seas later. Sure, a few people will leave high seas, and the short term numbers may take an hit, but the ability to try High Seas again may make up for it as players that dont abandon the game can decide to switch to high seas later. Personally, I think there will be more people switching between game modes. Sometimes you want the full experience, but sometimes you just want to get really drunk and try to survive fishingninna storm.
Also I don't know why everyone thinks the only way to progress in The Hunter's Call is by fishing or hunting game critters! All of the Siren Gems are derived from SIREN HEARTS! They are HUNTING TROPHIES that can be sold at Sea Posts for a MINT, particularly the CORAL Siren Gems you can farm at some shrines. There is one in particular in the West near Mermaids Hideaway you can farm repeatedly by killing your self at the, after you have stashed your loot, and doing it again. I have repeated this as many as three times for a rather impressive haul of gems. And there is a Sea Post less than 10 minutes away to sell at. At least that's what I was doing at the end of Season 8. I suspect it's still possible. Sell The siren GEMS to Hunters Call. I think Soveriegns automatically DO. maybe
The Sovereigns do if you're not already signed up to someone else at the time. Still, it's more people that are farming the Hunters Call commendations I was looking at though, those guys have a major commitment to their causes.
Hopefully this doesnt damage organic pvp outside hourglass. However, I will enjoy the fact that new players wont be wasting my time as I sink them without a fight.
Ofcourse it wont, the players who want to pvp will be easier to find in High Seas now, as the ones who dont, are in Safe Seas. This is a win win, i will be using Safe Seas when i dont feel like pvp. The way i see it, there will be better pvp now in the normal game
@Eldenbruh yes, but then at the same time now nobody is forced to pvp. Nobody HAS to get better unless you want to get your rep up. It lowers the bar for your average player. The only good it will do is for new players.
Heading to most world events I feel people are anticipating at least one ship to turn up to try and take the rewards. I guess it'll be less likely to find a ship anchored at some random island with no emissary, flag or customisation... unless that's their strategy to lure you in...oo-er!
@@thefestive1143 well its good for me too, been playing since release and sometimes i dont wanna pvp, i wanna fish or run tall tales with my wife, so yeah
Not sure what a Pitate is but arguably Safer Seas is for everyone. You don't have to use it at all, but you're getting it in your game. I'd imagine RP'rs are going to have a field day.
Safer sees is absolute garbage and a slap in our faces for those who have been asking for private servers now for over 5 and 1/2 years. there is no plus side to stripping us of 70 percent of the game and trying to play off like this is some kind of maiden voyage extension being promoted by all the toxic Players that want to make sure that they can keep their easy prey at hand so they can harass them daily to get their jollies which is the reason why most people have left this game to begin with
Let's say we did have access to private servers, I'm assuming you wouldn't expect it to have any impact on your Live server gains, right? Eg, you wouldn't be able to gain allegiance with those hourglass factions. You're clearly not alone in your frustration with High Seas just judging by the comment section of this video alone.
I appreciate the thought that you think I work at Rare and have secretly released information, but unfortunately the reality is not that glamorous. In the description is a FAQ about it from Rare itself.
It's ok to disagree. I just feel that the vast majority of experienced players that were considering Safer Seas either haven't logged on in a while already or perhaps have already uninstalled. If this brings them back and gets them to try High Seas every once in a while, I think it's a good thing.
its truly the cheaters keeping me from enjoying the game. i suck at pvp. safe seas was made for people like me with my consitution. with that being said i try to get so much better at the game just to get abused by cheats
@@evanvanhavel Are you still experiencing cheating as much as Season 9? Since the update, I've yet to bump into a hacker. I feel like the hit reg and server issues have gotten worse though. People I'm certain eat a full blunderbuss shot and surviving wigs me out. Could just be a skill issue on my part though 🤔
I think that safer seas can be a wonderful tool for new players looking to learn the ropes, or content creators looking to get a clip, or whatever else it may be, but I absolutely hate the idea of people switching permanently to safer seas and stacking loot endlessly purely out of spite towards pvp. Safer seas should have a permanent gold cap, or at least one that resets seasonally, to prevent people from getting the rewards without the risk. If rare decides to do that (they won't), I'll be satisfied.
There is a severe reduction in value on the loot gained though, and with other restrictions in place it's not as if they can take advantage of selling it to Reapers for almost double the price. It's hard to imagine they're doing it out of spite too, I think they just want to play the game.
And in replying to @lucky_mcgee799 If players were going to get bored after sitting and doing it all day chances are they were more likely to log off and uninstall sooner if someone took all their hard hours of work for themselves. Yes, it's the nature of the game, doesn't mean they have to like it and stick around though. Which I think is half the reason why Safer Seas is being released in the first place: player retention.
Yeah no even if they understand how to do PvE stuff they will still do so many mistakes when they actually go into high seas. The only way to get better at something is to practice. Plus it ruins the whole shared world aspect which is one of main selling points of the game.
I think make an important point that we all probably make stupid mistakes from time to time on High Seas. Only last night a friend and I got decimated by a Brig because rocks just kept appearing out of nowhere! But that's on us to make. The person that capitalised on that was the Brig, which may not be entirely inviting for new players straight off the bat.
All the weak sweats complaining because their easy prey will be gone are now forced to fight players who actually wish to fight
Can't say I've seen too much of players complaining about not being able to Steamroll new players. More concerns about server population.
Aye Aye to that 🎉

Should also note that Fort of the Damned is also not active in Safer Seas. But glad you're able to still play the game!
@@Millbear1
Didn't care for that fort anyway, so all good.

@@buchan448 Hell ya man. It's going to be awesome. 🤘🏻
It's funny when people say that having a PVE mode will make a game die; because it only brings in more people who will:
1.) buy the game
2.) potentially buy the season passes.
I'm glad that you'll be able to spend quality time with your daughter in safer seas! :D
Cry it's how the game goes. It's a sandbox people can do whatever they want that's the whole point. If you sink then fight back.

Also: Does the Fort of Fortune appear in Safer Seas?
The Fort of Fortune is not available in Safer Seas.
From my understand, Skeleton Forts, which I'm assuming is the Skulls that flash green instead of Red, are still available. I think the reasoning a FoF is not available is that it contains Athena Loot, but that's just me speculating.

I'm in the same boat (See what I did there? I'll see myself out.) This will make family time with my wife and son much more enjoyable
Imagine the filming of Sea of Thieves stories you could be making on Safer Seas too.
Feel like RP players will definitely enjoy safer seas far more
I have a Pirate Legend character doing lots of high end stuff. Yet I enjoy the heck out of Safer Seas.
It's here now, it's weird at first because you keep seeing skelly sloops about which puts you on edge, but otherwise it's a calm sea out there!
Loving Safer Seas, as the PVP aspect of the game isnt for me. Obviously I wish the Nerfs weren't so big but I fully understand why.
Like we're minding too much of our own business. lol
You genuinely seem cool, though.
Bingo! And when they're ready, they can join High Seas to continue their journey to becoming a Legend!
As someone who played sot before they added safer seas, I understand that people wish to not be bothered while grinding, but the only grind that can be done in safer seas is certain commendations such as the hunter call's, otherwise anything else is just better to be done in higher seas
But it is definitely nice for newer players. Let's them get a grip over the game's different mechanics
Would you play High Seas if there were bot player ships in Safer Seas?
@@Millbear1Will they shout at me that i suck, even when they die?
@@ediegelor6493 I'm sure they could put that setting in for authenticity! 😂
Speaking as someone who was introduced to SoT in early 2020, and then immediately thrown into Reapers so I could get a grasp of the combat right away:
Safer Seas has always been iffy for me.
Used up all our blunderbombs to make it so we couldn't do anything but crunch up against Reapers, and couldn't fix the damn hole, and then he dipped as soon as the ship sank - god forbid he face the consequences of his own actions)
I can't imagine trying to do a tall tale, or just vibe, with this streak of luck.
I've never even considered messing with Tall Tales on high seas. Now though I think I will put the effort in for the story content.
Right up to Season NINE I was constantly getting steam rolled too.
Would be nice if you could invite other boats into your safer seas server
or go to high seas
Do you really want to invite a toxic player into your server?
@forexed8948 I think they meant playing with friends on separate ships, which would be fun af
Theyll change their ways soon enough. theyll make safer seas a perm mode with everything unlocked so we dont have to play that shitty pvp mode.
And they'll let us join private servers with friends so you can sail together on separate ships 👌
This is the way!
after playing Safer Seas I realize that High Seas isn't much different. The only thing Safer Seas has over it is a garuntee that people won't be around when you want to do tall tales which is perfect. In fact just today we found 4 crews willing to do Glitterbeard and not a single one cared about pvp
This is great! Love the high seas community when they come together for it!
awesome video as always mate
Much appreciated!
3:48 - oh, oh, AHHHHHHHHHHH, best bit, the big haha was here
I'm hoping that as people who don't want to fight join safer seas I'll get more action on high seas, chasing people for a fight is the worst.
considering rare put both a reputation cap and a potent reputation reward nerf on SS, nope
all it will do well is be a good place for TTs
There's still runners for sure! Those solo brig crews are always trying to escape!
Feels like xbox servers are already empty. Once in a while i might see a reaper ship but theyre always a pve reaper runner.
I cant wait for safer seas so I can stack kegs all around the entire map then detonate the whole game.
This sounds like a recipe for crashing your own server...and I LOVE IT!
Lol 😂😂
Devs should add more mythical creatures to Sea of Thieves to encounter. Both while your sailing or swimming beneath the ship. That’d be awesome 🙌🏽💯
That would definitely freshen up some under water content! Trying to think of what else they can add without just going straight to Poseidon.
So it’s perfect for the single player like me who only has a couple of hours a week for gaming then?
Absolutely! It's brilliant for that very thing!
No its not its a half a game you cant even buy your own ship beter spend your time in a real game!
Looking forward to safer seas for tall tales. And…I just switched to mouse & keyboard. I’m moving soooooo slow! 😂
Slow and steady wins the race! You'll be making pop shots with the Eye of Reach in no time! Happy Talin'!
1:22 FOTD is not a great choice for this segment (as it's turned off on SS)
I had post upload clarity about that clip the moment I uploaded it too. But good to point out in case others misinterpret it. FotD is not possible in Safer Seas.
Good luck to the newer people using safer seas... its of no use to me because I already have max rep in every faction but its a good addition to the game. Shit might as well argue it'll make the pvp content better because nobody will be in there without expecting it now
You'll definitely know what you're signing up to once switching from Safer Seas. Let's hope they didn't leave the Reaper Flag on in their crows nest...
Did they note if you can join random crews in safer seas?
It is more like a private lobby in GTA, however there is the official club on Xbox and Microsoft that allow you to ask others to join your game, help you out with something or just to get some basic understanding of the game itself. Like a forum everyone knows about and has access to it.
the good thing is skeleton ships are a thing so you can still have a little challenge
Nothing wrong with a little bit of practice!

My only worry is that I’m already seeing PVE players asking for them to get rid of the gold and rep penalties and make the Safer Seas literally High Seas but private servers. If Rare ever actually did this it would completely ruin the game and get rid of any sort of risk or challenge
I can't imagine they will, it would defeat any insentive to get into the main game what so ever. Their aim is to encourage people over to high seas
It's also for people with disabilities to play too without toxic players, so why not make it the same.

Content creaters already have acces to "private servers"

Honestly very excited less servers are going to be needed which means the servers run better and most of the players will actually be competent
I'm not entirely sure that's true unfortunately. Being an online only game, I think that means it'll be more individuals on individual servers. What that will do for server stability I don't know.
single player now?
Only if you want to!
Safer seas will undoubtedly bring tons of people to the game and hence, more money to rare so we can start getting actually good content again (let’s be honest updates have not been good since season 8, I liked sirens skull but it’s a matter of time until it stops being interesting)
Thank you for reading my crazy long comment
100% agree as a lvl 50 arena veteran we want better players to fight and challenge. No probs for reading ur comment BTW 😊

The only good it will do is for new players.
im glad the runners have a home to run all they want in a solo match
Heading to most world events I feel people are anticipating at least one ship to turn up to try and take the rewards. I guess it'll be less likely to find a ship anchored at some random island with no emissary, flag or customisation... unless that's their strategy to lure you in...oo-er!
@@thefestive1143 well its good for me too, been playing since release and sometimes i dont wanna pvp, i wanna fish or run tall tales with my wife, so yeah
Hi
Hello Eevee!
Ahoy there ya salty sea dog yarharaharhahrh
Yarghhahaharrrr
lots of sweats mad in the comments lmfao
I will never play that. There is no captaincy or guilds. This means that the milestones that require fishing cannot be done in that mode.
3:16 so not for players playing the game they want as a pitate
Noted
Not sure what a Pitate is but arguably Safer Seas is for everyone. You don't have to use it at all, but you're getting it in your game. I'd imagine RP'rs are going to have a field day.
@@Millbear1 true also please don't make fun of me I'm dyslexic 💀💀💀
Bro, you can’t do it fort of the damn in safer seas that’s Clickbait
Massive skill issue
@@sotplayer69okay pirate boy, go get some more milk and take your nap. Wouldn't want the baby to get any more fussy ☺️
I feel like with safer seas you can grind certain events for commendations like fort of the damn/chest of fortune. As well as skeleton lords/forts
@@churchy6479 no you can't they're taking those out
600th sub lets go
A massive thank you for all 600 of you!
Is this a breach of NDA?
Footage isn't from insider, and we all know safer seas is on its way as provided by Rare. So no - Not breach of NDA
@@poIsox we have not been given information regarding how safer seas works or what content is playable/available
@@claytontalesfore7564yes we have. Rare already went into a lot of detail about it when they first announced it
I appreciate the thought that you think I work at Rare and have secretly released information, but unfortunately the reality is not that glamorous. In the description is a FAQ about it from Rare itself.
little did bro know you get 30 percent of the gold that normal servers get
Pretty sure I mention it at 2:32
If it prevents sea trolls from killing me when I'm trying to play a chill game, I'll take it.
First
Second!

lets cut our servers in 1/2
i couldn't disagree with you more
It's ok to disagree. I just feel that the vast majority of experienced players that were considering Safer Seas either haven't logged on in a while already or perhaps have already uninstalled. If this brings them back and gets them to try High Seas every once in a while, I think it's a good thing.
@@Millbear1 i do respect that, truly I think a better cheat engine would be better, just my 2 cents. but i did enjoy your video
its truly the cheaters keeping me from enjoying the game. i suck at pvp. safe seas was made for people like me with my consitution. with that being said i try to get so much better at the game just to get abused by cheats
Honestly man couldn't agree more, it's good but people will just sit on it all day and eventually get bored
This channel doesn’t understand how it’s gonna work
