One of the world's most underappreciated film in horror history and one of Carpenter's best in my opinion.

Having seen this episode of Movie Magic (?) as a kid and being such a nerd for monsters, I was really excited to one day see the monsters in the film itself. You can imagine my disappointment when they were just seen in the dark. Of course that was the point of the scene so I can now appreciate it from that angle, but I loved seeing all of these guys individually in brighter light.

YES!!! I felt the exact same disappointment, and was one reason why I wanted to upload this to TH-cam so people could more fully appreciate the monsters. I saw this special on TV and had it on tape, but it wasn't until years later that I saw the actual movie and I was shocked at how little of the monsters they showed - only seen in quick cuts and closeups. As you said, I can see why they did it in the movie, but I'm glad more of the special effects work can be fully seen in some capacity.

Somebody knows where those costumes are now ? I can buy or rent them for shooting?

It was 100% the right call to only show glimpses of them in the movie. They’re great practical monsters but so much better when used to make the viewer imagine what’s NOT seen about them. In full light they’re basically goofy Power Rangers villains which is charming in its own right.

nowadays everything is motion capture or a mix of cgi and practical fx.

they really let this whole creative design go to waste when they got a blurry scene with only a second of clear view.

They were made from latex. If they still exist, they have deteriorated and probably couldn't be used without further damage.

@@CitizenKang they had meatball at comic con this year and it was in good condition. You're thinking of foam latex which does degrade fast, I'm guessing these costumes were made from urethane foam then textured in Halloween mask latex which lasts longer
