That took me back a few years! Great video - both content and image quality - thank you. It was wonderful to hear the Valenta scream again this morning.
Well, where do I start? I didn't see any tactile paving or any red/yellow line, or even a bossy wannabe with a radio shouting at anyone who even considered to approach said lines/paving..and guess what? I didn't see a single person fall off the platform!! I did see 15 min of my youth all in startling HD and thank you again for these remasters, they are excellent. The paxmans always seem to busy for the off, during station stops , sort of excited tone to the exhaust. Or is that just me. I did see a brilliant fast stop into Bodmin parkway, by a master of his craft driver. I did see railway staff who loved the job, not just the money and the general travelers who were more respectful of the actual event of a journey. I did see a better time.
Probably the ETH, most likely in the winter. ETH would almost simulate notch 2. Plus not to mention the power drawn by the buffet and all of the lights. The paxman HSTs were the soundtrack to my childhood. Much better days for sure. My Dad was an IC Guard in the 90s. He used to take me with him sometimes. Magical times. Sadly he’s no longer with us but I always have the memories!
I had almost forgotten how much single line there used to be on the Cornish Main Line. These days it’s just a couple of short stretches because of bridges and past Long Rock.
No "stand behind the yellow line", no yellow line to stand behind, but some of those people at3:57do look worryingly close to the edge, particularly as, in pre-CDL days, there was nothing to prevent doors opening before the train had come to a stop
Strange how most of these HSTs were all 8 cars, but over time ended up being 7 cars with loads of complaints about overcrowding. Almost a conspiracy theory there lol
Like how the platform bert covered his ears on the last shot to protect himself. Having worked on HSTs myself from 90-96 they certainly took a pounding to my ears.

the 50s were on an infereior camera compared to that of The HSTS, will re do them though in time

think most of the GWR hsts were 8 cars eventually, the Cross Country were generally only 7

XC ones were always 7 coach, GW ones were 8 or, later on in FGW days, 9
