My father graduated from West Point in 1950. He served as a Tactical Officer at the academy from 1958 thru 1962. To this day (2023) I remember my 4 years living there. This movie brought back pleasant memories of my childhood. I remember roaming around the academy attending numerous athletic events, watching parades, locating the great chain that was once across the Hudson. I remember camping overnight at Fort Putnam that is the fort that Benedict Arnold tried to surrender to the British. After graduation the seniors would throw their old cadet uniforms out of their windows. The children would collect them and wear them until their parents got tired of them and through them out.
In high school trig my teacher was a Ret. Colonel West Point. His lectures were organized and precise and he welcomed questions. On exams, even if you missed a problem, he would give you credit, as he put it, if you demostrated him you knew how to the exercise.
During my Army career I had two different company commanders from this class. One of them was a female from this class - she was a topnotch commander, and we're still friends 35 years later.
Thank you *SO* much for posting this! I remember seeing this when I was like 7-8 years old and could never remember the title, much less the actresses or actor’s names. Never thought I’d ever get to watch this again. So THANK YOU!* 🪖🎖️🇺🇸 From FL And to who has served, *I thank you for your service* 🇺🇸🪖🎖️
I remember watching this movie on TV when I was in the 8th grade. A first class cadet from the USMA came out to my school in his uniform about a month later and gave a presentation which struck my interest even more in the armed forces. I attempted, but never got a nomination into any of the service academies, but I did manage to serve through 3 enlistments honorably in the USMC. I credit this film as well as may others giving me the inspiration to join.
My sister-in-law's dad was a marine officer and also taught chemistry in a university in the Midwest. And a cousin of mine was in the Marines. You did well also.
I was in the 2nd battalion of the 505th infantry of the 82nd airborne division in 1976. We supported the first class of female cadets that summer at Camp Butner. My platoon, 2nd platoon of Charlie company provided rifle qualification and supported other ranges that summer. It was a great assignment and now , looking back, a historical one as well.
I always like to watch films or documentary films about West Point Academy. This film is beautiful and worth watching. The actors and actresses made a typical story look great, sweet and inspiring.
yeah I was kinda surprised how difficult it was to find online. ended up having to buy it online, and even then it was hard to find a place to buy the movie from. I can't remember if it was even at West Point's library.
@tk-iv5563 yeah 20 bucks to a shady online site. I was surprised i got the movie at all. It was worth it to me cuz I love watching vintage West Point stuff back when I was still there
Thank you Piccolo. Very encouraging movie. The story is exactly the same as women in West Point as this present day. Not insulted but prepare them to be the best and finest future officer in Armed forces.
I've never been in the United States service but as an attorney who practices in United States Federal Court, this movie taught me how to respond correctly when the federal Judge orders me to do something. It's "Yes your Honor, No your Honor, No excurse your Honor and, finally, I do not understand your Honor." Those are the only responses you get until the Judge orders you to explain yourself. In court you only speak when the Judge allows you to speak ("when spoken to") and you move your *** when the Judge orders you to do something. Lastly, you must speak loudly, quickly and clearly. Great movie for the budding trial attorney. 🎖
What a movie! This movie gives the essence for everyone who wants to join in any service. These ladies and the army itself had to learn about a difficult transition. I hope this kind of situations are already gone. But as any human being posseses beliefs, feelings, crisis, and so on always there are stuff to overcome. Nice movie.
As a platoon sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division I always received the top of the officers. In an airborne engineering battalion you get nothing but the best.
There's nothing holding back Davidson from recognizing Jennifer before June. Why didn't he and eliminate some of the risk of fraternization? (He still can't commit public display of affection.)
Loved this movie. I have an old, bad quality VHS taping. This is much better quality. Lots of future famous actors in this movie. (Linda Purl is so cute in the movie.) Movie had full DOD and West Point cooperation for the production. Scenes filmed at West Point.
I had a sudden interest for matching bands and the rest of it, baton twirlers. . . all the fanfare. Interesting part of Americana. Then your movie/docu came up in the feed. Why did I watch? My sister attended 1980-1985.
I have been hoping that someone would put this up. Thank you so much for posting this favorite movie of mine! I have an old copy on vhs. Watched this when it first aired when I was 11 .This is so clear. I wish I could buy this movie but cannot find one. Again, thank you. you are awesome!
On New Year's eve in Stockton, Calif we met a grad from this first class. She asked whose coat was I wearing ? It had the year 02 on it. I told our two daughters went to West Point. 02 and 08 were their years. First LATINA sisters to grad. A wonderful lady with some background on how hard it in that first year for women.
Thank you for this movie. I saw it on TV and have it on a BETA tape. 😂 I have been looking for it from time to time. Finally, someone uploaded it. Thanks. Another one I would love to see again is "A Time to Triumph". Based on the true life of a woman helicopter pilot.
Not a bad movie. Jamison Parker, Linda Purl, Armin Shimerman and Ken Olin in my top 40 list of favorite actors. Not sure if it followed or preceded G.I. Jane and others. But they were all good.
I recall my sister writing to the USMA before women were admitted. I can't help but think how rich and satisfying her life would have been if she had become an Army officer, instead of the horror show it is now.
Back then, the number of jobs open to women in the Army was fairly limited, but today, almost all jobs in the Army as well as the other services are open to women.
1979 was the year women were allowed in RA after WAC was disbanded. Cadets are not allowed to barge into women's quarters to watch their states of undress. Fraternization between cadets are not acceptable. Wonder what rank Linda Purl reached on her discharge.
I entered West Pointe in 1977, the second year women were allowed. This film is fictionalized. If you wish to attend a service academy, please speak with a graduate. Any promises your liaison officer offers, get in writing.
Lembro de ter assistido esse filme na sessão da tarde quando ainda estudava. Desde então nunca mais havia assisitido. Obrigada TH-cam por ter me levado ao um tempo tão bom.
I once had a boss who went to West Point . He's one of the smartest people I have ever known. I noticed the TAC officer's name was "James T. Kirk". I wonder if it's an in-joke, or if the actor has been on Star Trek.
Reminds me of the UCMJ brief for officers. It was a week long and about halfway through the subject of administrative separation came up. How you can administratively separate a person from the military with the stroke of a pen. One way is if the person fails two consecutive PRT’s. It was brought up that women didn’t have to do as many sit-ups, push-ups, etc as men have to do. I commented that women are finally getting equal pay for unequal work.
I was a commander at Fort Lee, Virginia receiving new lieutenants for their officer basic course what a goat rope! I think I did make a change in a few officers lives.

Wow how things have changed. I left the Army right before the all volunteer Army and the inclusion of women into the ranks (outside of nursing/admin jobs.)
Oath was not correct. Swear allegiance to the Constitution not the government. I was recruited for the Class of 1983 USAF, but instead received my commision via ROTC. My husband was a member of the USMA Class of 1979, the last all male class. I heard many stories of the first females that attended West Point.
Women want equality but were allowed to keep their hair ....ALL CADETS SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO HAVE CLASS 1 CUTS....the beginning of the eviseration of the beloved Corps..... As General Westmoreland stated: maybe 1 out of 10000 women would qualify for the rigid standards of West Point but why change a 172 year old revered institution for 1 out of 10000??

I loved Paul Gleason's in this! Playing a military officer is so to type for him but this showed much more warmth than you ususally see in his roles.
My husband was faculty in Engineering Department 1982- 1985. Women were still new. They were impressive on many levels
