I had a 78 two tone Regal turbo. It was about 12 years old when I drove it from Maryland to Nebraska and back in the dead of winter. Drove it several thousand more miles after we had to delete the turbo because that was cheaper than replacing it.

I rescued a 1987 gn from under a car cover where it sat since 1990 with only 34k miles on it. It was one of the most challenging revivals I've ever done but well worth it.

Steve, thank you for this video, and I'm throwing every good vibe I have your way for your recovery.
Backstory for this car: this was my best friend's car in high school/college. It spent a lot of time running around southern NH and central Mass in 1990-1994 (lots of time at Monadnock Speedway and Riverside Park, as his dad ran a NASCAR Modified). It was repainted in 1991 or 1992 after a fender bender. Engine got an rebuild, and the turbo impeller shaft snapped at some point, but I think it got fixed. But it being a G-body, the rear frame rails got soft, patched, then soft again. So it ended up in a family member's field with the idea of "fixing it up" once he got some space. Well, time passed, and it was supposed to be used for a street stock, then the family member passed and it was gone.
Fast forward to this spring, and I'm poking on Steve's channel. Light blue Buick Regal...turbo...cool. With Revenger tires on the front...which I remembered because I'm that kind of nerd...and I kind of remembered the turbines being his snow tire wheels....send my friend an email with the link...friend remembers the brown steering wheel wrap. So he digs and finds the title to the car and his spare keys (NH didn't issue titles on 10 year old cars at the time, so he kept the old title). Bernardston Auto Wrecking gets called, and the VIN confirmed as his car. So we made a visit, with the hope of dragging it home and bringing it back to life.
Turns out the Bernardston Auto Wrecking family is distantly related to my friend's family, which is how they ended up with it.
The spare keys worked in the locks. And we could tell it got some road time by somebody else, as there was some all-thread holding the rear bumper and frame together, and the But the seats were only attached by carpet. The Harbor Freight aluminum "racing" jack we dragged out to the "back 40" of the yard punched through the frame when we tried to look underneath. The roof had a ripple all the way across. We stared at it, we took pictures, we pondered different strategies to do something with it -- but realized the Regal was probably best off returning to the earth in this quiet corner of the salvage yard.

I bought mine in v nice cosmetic condition in 2000. I installed a DIY ram air induction system consisting of sheet metal dryer vent tubing joined with duct tape. It led up from a rectangular inlet below the bumper to the air intake of the air cleaner. Before, I measured 14 mpg highway. After, 18 mpg. Same highway course. I was surprised by the improvement. Filled up before and after the highway leg. Should have been built that way. Smog pump/egr setup really hurt performance in that era.

I bought a 1979 turbo Regal to make as a daily driver in 1987 so I wouldn't put miles on my new 87 Grand National. First thing I had to do was fix a rust hole in the driver's floor and change the leaking valve covers. Because of the way the turbo and associated plumbing was located it was probably the hardest job I ever had to change valve cover gaskets. More trouble than it was worth so sold it a few months later. The Grand National lasted a couple of years before it was gone too.

Little skimpy hoses on 2023 gas pumps can barely reach that center fill gas inlet, I have to maneuver to just the right spot to gas up my '69 Skylark convertible, what a pita. My MIL gave me this exact same car around 1986, hers had AC and 2 tone blue. The camshaft was soft and had flattened itself out, so the car was mine. I had the engine rebuilt, drove it a couple years and the camshaft flattened again.
These were also a great target for car thieves, you could break into the steering column with a light tap from a hammer, push down a rod with a screwdriver, and be off to the races in anybody's Regal or Cutlass. Mine was stolen off a street corner in South Philly one night. Because of a locking gas cap and the tank being almost on E, the miscreants didn't get far. After that, I never filled the tank more that 1/4 full. But it was a great car and I still miss it.

I was a mechanic at a Buick dealer when those were introduced. Many of us were thrilled with the "new" technology, and were glad to see performance coming back after the detuning that took place during the 70's. But they really didn't sell that many of these, compared to the standard Regals. I guess most folks didn't think the additional performance was worth the cost.

I did light landscaping for a family that had one of those nice turbo Regal Sport Coupes. A really nice car! Elegant and quick for its time. Thanks for a great video!

I remember the early tempo and topaz had similar wheels with urethane, but they rusted out very quickly, it was the 1983-1985 models who had theses and I wouldn't trust them on the road. I had a buick GN 1987 and it was a very quick car for the time. But I replaced it with a cyclone. The family of my girlfriend, and mother of my kids were car dealer, I got to try many amazing cars. The audi coupe quattro was much faster with the turbo in-line 5.

Back when the speedometer only went to 85 some cars with a round speedometer and no pin you could spin the needle all the way around.

My buddy had a 78 Monte and we got a kick out of getting the speedo around to "L1" since the PRNDL display was in the bottom of the speedo.

Buick had a great look in the 80's with the grill and rims... I drove a 83 Buick Estate Wagon that looked really good but was still a station wagon

This is my fav car: year, make, model, color, interior, engine, except this one's at the end of 'er life! Would really like one still today, I'm 51, would fit me well, no stripes or spoilers, just a handsome car for me and my family.
