    Been doing BJJ for 8 years, but never have seen such great videos to put everything together in a great overview. Helps just to watch one then go roll!

    I remember having to really search to find the odd new technique but now vids like this make it so much easier.
    Thanks for your work.

    @captainzorikh
    from what my instructor has told me, you're supposed to keep your outside leg planted and bridge slightly while pulling your inside arm in so that you can recover a laying-on-your-side position. You should only lock your half guard when your opponent is attempting to pass.

  • @MaxLohMusic

    BJJ already blows my mind with its chess-like antics every day but THIS REALLY REALLY BLEW MY MIND LIKE NOTHING ELSE, especially the rolly/spinny moves like 2:36 and 6:30...
    I mean I've taken college math classes like multi-variable calculus that require visualizing weird solutions in multiple dimensions but this video puts them all to shame!
    Every engineer, chess player, and intellectual person should be exposed to the mind-bending beauty of BJJ.

    Your rapid fire techniques are perfect. You are not supposed to get everything down watching the video a couple times. You watch the video indefinitely and train while working key techniques that fit your style. Its perfect and its been improving my Jiu Jitsu. Even the proper Shrimping tutorial has improved my hip escapes both front and reverse. Thank you and keep up the great work

    man...i REALLY like all your vids....like seriously these are just really good reference videos that showcase alot of options from a few positions in a way that really gets me thinking more about those psotions. if there was a place i felt i didn't have as many options from so i never worked on it well now i do lol. i mean these vids are really good at getting you to think about sub's of course, but really alot of control

    I really like the approach you are using to make your videos. I think you are the first who did these small vids with many fast following techniques in it. It is nice to see the whole variety of possible techniques from a certain position.

    You're putting out some of the best stuff on the internet right now.

  • @dastrn
    @dastrn 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @captainzorikh Your job in the half guard is ALWAYS to get on your side and try to get the one underhook. If you're flat on your back, you have almost no attacks or sweeps available, and you will be passed. If your on your right side, you your right hand to block your opponent's left hand. Otherwise, he can get head and arm control and flatten you out.
    You can think of your full-guard the same way. Try to be slightly on your side. You will have more dynamic movement.

    I was just in class today. We learned a new counter from half guard and I was able to use it in the free rolling later. However once again I did find myself flat under someone's half guard and though I had double underhooks, my head was on the wrong side. I guess at my level "don't allow them to do that" is not a fully applicable strategy yet :)

    Watching this at half speed is super helpful for processing the different steps of the techniques.
    It’s also unintentionally hilarious, because the voiceover now sounds like he’s had about seven shots of Jameson.

  • @LocNguyen82
    @LocNguyen82 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your videos are really great! Seeing all these many options in quick succession are making it easy for me to select a few to incorporate. Have you thought about making each one an animated GIF? I know that's a lot of work but I had to ask.

    Wow, mind blown! I'm a blue belt and this is a lot to decipher. I don't even know where to begin. I think just the recognition there is a whole you can do on the bottom. Seeing points where I think I'm passed is actually the opening for a submission or sweep. Amazing. Thank you!.

      Tyson Arden I use it a lot. I've got a lot of sweeps and submissions by using the half guard, both during training and tourneys.

    • @josephng7918
      @josephng7918 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      same! The reason is because whenever someone is going from sidemount to full, you will use half guard to stop it. When you are escaping mount, using a elbow escape, you will end up in half guard. Half guard is a non-negatiable -- especially against bigger opponents who get dominant positioning over you.
