    4:56 Hey Maddie Happy 2024!! Wow another day for another shelling adventure, my favorite seashell for today’s video was this precious Scary Murex as in (Chicoreus territus) I could say that Chicoreus territus is occasionally found in northern NSW, with a few specimens known as far south as Sydney. So I researched this seashell so that’s why I can learned all about this Scary Murex shell 🐚 and it was in 1845. So that’s all I’m sharing for today’s video, thank you so much for sharing us another greatest adventure, that’s was great 😊. Julia

      G'day Julia 👋🏻🐚 Happy 2024!! Once again, I'm a little late, but I hope you're having a wonderful week 🎉 The Scary Murex was really lovely this time 🤩 yes, even though it can go as far south as northern NSW, I haven't seen it on any other beach before...you never know when it will pop up though!! Wow, you've really done your research; yes, it was first described and published in a scientific journal in 1845... Such a long time ago!! As always Julia, thank you so much for watching 🥰

    Good day to you Maddie! Wow that hinged turkey wing was something to see, love them detached too. Blood clam was very nice and the dog whelk and the scallop shells- I don’t just have one favourite😂
    Dog kisses too as you collect, always helps😅🐕🐕‍🦺

      G'day Alison 👋🏻💖 I hope you're keeping warm this year 😄 The hinged turkey wing was a fun find; I sure hope it means I'll be finding more like that!! Hehe, it can be hard to choose a favourite, but it does surprise me how much people like those Blood Clam shells...I guess they are quite large and nicely textured, after all? Haha, yes, I guess all fo the doggies wanted to see what I was up to at the beach 🏖️ Thank you so much for watching 🥰 and for your kind words, too!

    Joined Indo-Pacific arc was my fav today. I’ve never seen a joined “turkey wing”, and seeing the halves together gave me an idea of what a crazy bivalve that must be in the ocean. Thanks, as always, for sharing Maddie!

      G'day Hilary 👋🏻🐚 The joined Turkey Wing sure is a fun one 🤩 I hope it means I might find more of them in the future; there there's one, there might be more!! And you know, I think most bivalves look pretty crazy in the ocean when they're alive 🤣 or maybe that's just my imagination? Anyhoo, thank you so much for joining me today 🥰

    Hello Maddie! 👋🏼 beautiful finds today. It looks nice and sunny out where you are right now. We have about 3 inches of snow in the ground as I’m watching this. I’m getting over RSV and I’m not feeling too good yet, so I’m not gonna elaborate very much this time. My favorite was the little nutmeg shell, you know I like them. My second pic is the large flat really looks nice in your assortment at the end. My third pick are all the beautiful moon snails as always. Thanks again my friend and I know I have another video to watch yet so I will talk to you soon! TTFN 👋🏼 ❤

      @SandCoffeeRocks  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      G’day Mimi 👋🏻💖 It was quite nice and sunny, though it’s been raining heaps since then, with only a few truely sunny (and very hot) days since then! Gotta love summer time in Australia 🏖️ Oof, you can keep the snow!! Actually, it never snows where I live, it’s too warm and tropical 🤣 please stay safe out in the cold weather. Oh gosh Mimi, I hope you’ve started to feel better now, I’ve heard that the 19 and RSV and spreading around like wildfire at the moment… even here, it’s being mentioned on the news, and it’s not even cold and flu season. I’m glad that the shelling adventure could distract you for a while 🐚 please rest up and get well soon. Thank you for joining me once again 🥰

      G'day 👋🏻🐚 Oh gosh, those Heart Urchins are cute! They can get much bigger, these are just the babies! I've only seen pieces of the most sturdy adult ones...funny that the delicate littles ones were what washed ashore intact. There was a lot of great shells today, I'm so glad that you enjoyed seeing the Bladder Moon Snails and the Propeller Arc too! Thank you so much for watching 🥰

    Happy 2024 Maddie, I don't recall ever seeing, a joined Turkey wing. Loved it! Wonder Why there is so much green slim continually on that beach? Those cute little heart urchins are very cool . Thanks for sharing Maddie. I am missing all the cowries.

    • @SandCoffeeRocks
      @SandCoffeeRocks  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      G'day Roberta 👋🏻💖 Happy 2024 to you too! The joined Turkey Wing is such a cool one 😍 I wonder if it's a sign that more hinged ones will start to wash up here? As for the algae, I'm not totally sure... Halfway through last year, a local told me that it comes every few years because of some sort of tide or wind washing it in... But then it went, and more came at the end of the year too...so I guess it's here to stay again for a while; it hangs around for months, unfortunately 😭 but the shell still wash up so it's not all bad news. Anyhoo, thanks for watching 🥰 PS I miss the cowrie too 😉

    Hi Maddie! Nice hunt for the start of the new year! I loved the hinged turkey wing, I've never found one. That flat was gorgeous! The scallops were beautiful. I was very drawn to the cockle shell.❤❤❤. Sure hate the green algae is still there. Makes the hunting kind of miserable.😢. Happy New Year Maddie! Thank you for the new adventure!🥰🥰🥰

      G’day Pam 👋🏻💖 It was a really lovely day 🤩 but as usual for my recent trips, I have more luck in the afternoon session of shell finding! This morning one was very nice though, I also really love that hinged Turkey Wing; I wonder if that means I might come across more in the future too!? Oh, that pink coloured cockle was quite nice too!! Ahh yes, the algae is pretty gross, and it hangs around for ages, well, at least a month or two it seems 🥲 the algae isn’t too bad… it’s better than slipper rocks, perhaps! As always Pam, thank you for joining me for another year 🥰

      G'day Beach Girl 👋🏻🏖️ Hello to you in Florida, what a place to retire to!! Oh wow, thank you so much for finding my shelling channel 🤩! I always thought the shells here were quite different than in Florida, but now that I think of it, there are a lot of similarities; especially from this beach in Hervey Bay. The Murexes and moon snails in particular are quite similar being in the same scientific genus. Thank you so much for watching 🥰

    My favorite shell from this trip is the laminate Venus, you found some pretty cool bivalves along with the wonderful gastropods and those cute little urchins. Do you ever find big baler shells here? Just curious❤ my husband gifted me a baler shell for Christmas,I was thrilled🎉it's as big as a football! I'd been eyeing it for many months at this junk/antique place and he sneaked and got for me!
    I hope you had a fantastic new years day and that we all have a wonderful 2024 ❤

      @SandCoffeeRocks  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      G'day Denise 👋🏻🦀 Oh gosh, the Lamellate Venuses from this trip were just fabulous 🤩 I always love finding them from here! As for the baler shells, yes, they can be found here, but I don't usually see them on the shore (maybe the odd broken piece of I'm lucky, and of course the baby ones too). I think I'd need to spend a few hours searching the mudflats at low tide to find a bit intact one, but I don't want to devote my whole trip to finding one or two big shells; I'd rather find a lot (call me greedy) 🤣! Oh wow Denise, that's a wonderful gift from your husband, and it sounds like it was a very nice size, too! Do you know which kind of baler shell it it? I wonder if it's an Australia one? Such a cool buy from your sneaky hubby ❤️ As always Denise, thank you so much for watching 🥰

    Hi , I love watching your videos. I'm a shell collector myself but I live in Wisconsin (USA) but I have been all over the Caribbean and Florida. I was watching your video today and noticed something kind of weird, at time stamp 13:36 when you grabbed a sordid moon snail it looks like a little creature is looking at you from a hole in the sand. I'm just wondering if you seen it or if I'm just seeing things? Keep up the good work.. Jeff

    • @SandCoffeeRocks
      @SandCoffeeRocks  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      G'day Jeff 👋🏻🐚 Oh wow, hello to you in Wisconsin! There are a lot of shelling opportunities in the USA and surrounding islands, that's for sure, I bet you've collected some amazing shells. I'm glad that you're enjoying my videos too; the shells sure are a bit different here 😉 Hmm, as for the timestamp you mentioned, I'm not sure? I also checked all of the Sordid Moon Snails from this adventures, but I couldn't see a creature 👻 Of its any kind of animal, I suspect that it's a Soldier Crab 🦀 there are swarms (I don't know if that's the right word) of them at this beach, and I sometimes follow them only to have them disappear under they sand...they kind swivel down into the sand like a corkscrew!! Thank you so much Jeff, I will keep an eye out for any fun new creatures to show, too 🥰 Thanks for watching and Happy New Year 🕛🎊

    Beautiful!! Do the moon snails change color after awhile or do they stay that dark color?

    • @SandCoffeeRocks
      @SandCoffeeRocks  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      G’day Brenda 👋🏻🐚 Oh, those grey-green bladder moon snails, and the blue/grey sordid moon snails do change to a lighter colour after a while. It takes weeks though, even a month or more for the full change. It believe that that shells are dark like that because the shell material itself is still wet (it’s more like the colours of the wet sand) and when it dries out, it’s like the colour of the dry sand at the back wrackline. If I put mineral oil on them while they are still dark, and stored them in an air tight container, they would probably start dark for an indefinite amount of time, I guess? Anyway, yes, their colours do lighten considerably! Thanks for watching 🥰
