is there a way to do the CVARS on controller. it seems like it would be yet another OP function of MKB if controller cant utilize it. also wouldnt that function under a macro which would be against TOS?
The Ogre Twitch serves an alternate purpose also. I haven't seen the full series of your tips yet but I thought I'd mention it here. When you are about to go into combat and leave cover or enter an engagement, what you can do is look side to side while paying attention to your radar. This way you can tell if there is more than one person around the corner, because if there are two than as you sweep more than one section of your radar will light up as you place that line that separates each section between the two players. This can help to determine if you should engage or withdraw.
I have watched a bunch of videos on how radar works in Destiny and you sir are only one who has explained it the best in simple English. Thank you so much...
Was partially asleep watching this and then i hear you say "ill see you later, if you suck" i was like "woah, he was so nice what happened?" Glad i rewatched and heard you correctly the 2nd time 🤣
"Playing with intention" has kind of been my "motto", as well as achilles heel. I'm only a mediocre PVPer at best, but whenever I'm just really getting rolled, it's usually because I've simply lost focus and am just running around. If I have a "purpose", I notice my results are always better. Continually set small, focused, and attainable goals--"cover your star player's exposed left flank as he crosses the next kill zone" is more productive than simply running with the pack and hoping for the best. Even if your positioning is similar, your mindset is more goal oriented and tends to net better results. This often goes hand in hand with his "play without fear" tip, too.
Losing focus on a battlefield = death, in rapid succession. What I can't figure out is...why am I more focused on not dying then I am on having fun and killing my opponents? Recently I started playing rumble matches without the music or shaxx yelling every 5 seconds and now I get podium finishes??? Does this mean I'm easily distracted?
Thank you for your very helpful video. In reference to your comment about screen distance, I already wear progressive lens glasses so only a tiny part at the center of the lens is in focus at screen distance and I had to keep my head centered to be able to see the screen. So I measured eye to screen at 27 inches and had a pair of single vision glasses made for me (my eyes are different strengths) at 27 inch focus. Now I can move my head around and still see all of the action in focus. BTW I play Destiny 2 only occasionally, I will be 70 next year.
An extra tip for any of my fellow aspiring snipers out there, and this goes along with his tip of playing with confidence, don’t hesitate and try to guarantee that you’ll land a headshot for fear of wasting your ammo. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. Also, try getting used to landing flicks, especially on controller. Get the timing for when the aim assist slows your reticle down over the target mid-flick, and you’ll hardly miss.
2:31 Quick tip for anybody who didn’t know if you change TVs or monitors a lot for some reason every time you started destiny motion blur will be automatically turned on
Something else to add for radar tech, is that if you lineup an enemy between two slices by rapidly wiggling your aim left and right, you can pinpoint EXACTLY where someone is, how fast they're moving, and the direction they're moving in
These are amazing tips. I didn’t realize I have a routine for warm up and cool down with gaming, same as I do with fitness, until I saw you recommend it. That’s awesome stuff man.
For controller players regarding the key bind section, if you have paddles I'd recommend mapping both slide and jump to your paddles. An if you don't have paddles I'd recommend getting a controller with paddles actually. They can make things like slide shooting with a primary or crouching during a gunfight to make your opponent miss a shot much easier. Especially if you play on the default layout.
I have an elite controller and I can confirm it makes a huge gap of skill between you and your enemies. If you play a lot it's worth the investment. Also shout out to gnar dog for the tip
I am not really happy about the upcoming slide changes due to the effects on primaries. We shall see… Great overview, my titan brother from another mother! Nice tips and tricks, very interesting things to pay attention to during a gameplay session! Happy to see you starting to get more reach here!! Much love from Germany!
4:45 #6 This is the specific reason I bought a 3 side button mouse.... Got tired of dying while res'ing people because I couldn't move. Now I have full movement with a side button res.
Controller keybind for res: ADS button! (LT on XBox). It's a button that's not really a pain to hold if you're aware of your surroundings before committing to the res and doesn't conflict with reloading. You lose some radar at times, but imho it's worth it for ease of use. Since it's "interact" in the settings, it makes sparrow riding... interesting at times (you may jump off when re-engaging boosters). For critical sparrow puzzles you should swap back to defaults.
I used to play crucible in d1 and a bit of trials and I guess it sort of built in anxiety for me, because of how much people would blame me for small mistakes that couldnt be helped and what not, I played with bad people. I was also never much of a competitive person and I still am not. Now when I play gambit or crucible, my heart starts beating to the point where im full blown nervous and that adrenaline rush helps make really quick decisions. Ive never been amazing at crucible, but im atleast above average. Momentum especially does this, and my god I havent had that much fun in crucible by myself in a long time.
You absolutely can re-map buttons on console. I’m on Xbox and use left bumper for my class abilities, shatter dive, and crouch, and I use, “B,” for my grenades
talkin bout no.17 i never knew it was called Ogre Twitch BUT i did get taught it by my nephew back in the black ops 2 days and he said something to the effect of "it helps keep you ready" and ever since i unconsciously do it and it really does help with not only being prepared for micro movements people make but also for just ingraining the micro movements you have to make when playing
Something that's happened with me, is I used to be fairly terrible at PVP, and while I'm not incredible now, I'm worlds better than I was. And it's all about my state of mind. Since I started working out and eating better, and going walking/jogging every morning, my twitch response times for PVP are on a whole other level now.
In regards to #17, there is another reason. If you spectate pro play in any fps game, you’ll see that pros always do something before a fight to “reset.” By shaking your crosshair you’re effectively resetting between fights which weirdly enough will help your aim.
For controller players; you need to map the ability to one of your emote buttons in-game, this is usually one of the directional pad buttons. Then, if you have an Elite Controller or something with paddles, map the directional button to one of the triggers or paddles. This allows you to use it without going near your direction pad.
Another thing about the slide flick thing, you actually can flick and slide in a different direction to change your momentmum and flick right back to where you were aiming. Obviously it is much more accessible on Mouse and Keyboard but you can use this to instantly disengage a fight you are having if you stand at a corner and think you will lose. You can then slide right back out with an opposite flick slide when you see that maybe you teammate has begun to support you because at that point, it is likely that the enemy has changed their attention to them. This can be combined with the "aim slide" tip as well to allow your sight to instantly be where you think the enemy is.
As some who came from apex a faster game and a br at that I'm surprised a lot of the things you talk apply to it as well. I'm talking about the playing with no fear and trusting your team. When I started play pvp in this game I was very meek and didn't do well disite being good at other shooters. Tried being more agrassive like I was playing apex and noticed lots of improvement
I don't know if anyone has noticed, but for Titan if you strafe jump then hit the slide button mid air it will propel you forward. I have paired this with dunemarchers for extra speed, and it allows you to slide or put a barricade down as you touch back on the ground.
This was super helpful. I only now just realized that I am doing the exact opposite of everything you're saying to do, and i was wondering why my KD was a 0.6 lol
Top PVP tip: Get better gear. No matter how much previous PVP experience you have from other games, you aren't going to be able to go toe to toe with 1300+ players with masterworked gear and optimized builds. And the game regularly pairs you with these players, so be ready.
Idk if this is true. I stopped playing around october 2020. Just got back on. Other than being a tad rusty, i had no real issues. Yes i have some exotics, but no current meta builds. Ps4 to laptop+controller btw. Lvl 1111
I think ogre did his 'twitch' more to reset his own aim as opposed to the reticle and joystick being stuck. Just a mental thing to feel confident in your shot
The controller solution to the strafe while rezzing problem is expensive. With xbox you can get the elite controller. It comes with little paddles you can slot in the back, then keybind them so you can use your thumbs for movement and your ring finger for rezzing and reloading. There are four slots for the paddles on the back, so you could actually set them to duplicate the ABXY buttons and never have to take your thumb off the sticks.
About keybinds, I play controller on pc but icarus dash is set to double tap by default. setting it to single tap made it so much easier to warlock glide to get around the map
For optimizing your keybinds I recommend the left trigger since you will most likely need to ads while reviving so you do both at the same time (note: if you summon your sparrow you won't be able to do the boost)
I have a lot of trouble with movement personally. Like dealing with the movement, momentum mechanics of destiny. As well as jumping too much sometimes. Lol.
I'm probably not the only one who does this with their Logitech G502 mouse, but I have my aim button set to a macro where whenever I let go, the gun reloads. It took a bit to get used to but now I don't know how I've been playing Destiny 2 without this trick for so long. And you can of course cancel out of the reloading by sprinting if you need to get out of dodge and into strafe-type cover quickly. :)
Really great video! 💙 On point #10, a TH-camr (Diaside, love and miss this dude) used the phrase *Anticipation Without Hesitation*. Loved that philosophy. Helped me a ton. :)
@Castle Content....bro, you earned a sub with that. Heck, with just the keybinds alone even!! The most in depth tips for PvP I've ever seen. Great work. Subbed. Keep it up 👍
I liked this video enough to actually go find a machine that's logged in just to whack the like button. :) For some reason, the shield thing as bait never occurred to me and I think that's an amazing tip. I'd also like to mention the sound thing. For myself, the sound is SO important that I can literally double my ratio (or cut it in half) just by where my volume is at. I tend to be pretty adverse to loud sounds in general so I almost always play PvE with the volume just loud enough to hear discord, but this just doesn't work for crucible. The audio cues are just too important. When I can't hear stuff like backpacks boosting or melee hits, slides, etc, it's almost like having a secondary sort of awareness radar taken away. Outstanding video.
Hi castle, I am using “O” on my ps5 for dodge and shatterdive, just fyi bc u said its not possible ingame?! I also use L2 for aim and revive, so I can aim and shoot while reviving.
Question, any tips for bows or bow set ups? I primarily use bows on my hunter and while I consider myself decent with them I can’t compete against some other weapon types. I usually run bow sidearm as I don’t want to give my opponents special ammo. I mainly use la monarch or titcu’s but I’m trying to get a hold of a god role wolf tone then new seasonal bow since it can run with some powerful perks.
There’s a guy named GodinGaming on YT who uses a bow quite a bit if you’re interested. I just did a collaboration project with him rating all hunter armour!
Practice makes perfect. I Started off being absolute poopy in pvp, but after months of playing it, and learning my weapons, as well as learning player predictability, it's not uncommon now for me to put 5-6 players down in one life. Got my first "We ran out of medals" last night, after literal years of being the worst performing player in matches.
For the radar tip it can go more in depth with it. I hate to mention someone else but Fallout expands on the topic of the rader and the finer things about it that can help you understand it even better than what you already know Edit: look up radar school Fallout plays.
Along with motion blur, turn off music and vibration (for controller players). All of these things are designed to stimulate anxiety or an adrenaline rush both of which affect your judgement and ability to make split second decisions in the heat of the battle.
I agree with turning off music and motion blur, but I leave vibration. It’s nice to know when you get shot by feeling it, rather than keeping an eye out on your health or screen effects.

Great Vid, off topic...3:12 Gridskipper the reticle movement is out of control! Forges Pledge has this problem. Another reason to use Darkest Before.
The Ogre Twitch isn't such a bad thing, on PS5 especially, due to stick drift. Resetting your sticks is never a bad thing for controller players

Hey thank you for the kind words!
These tip videos have been amazing. (just the tip)
Great tips, will definitely have to implement some of them
The controller solution to the strafe while rezzing problem is expensive.

I Started off being absolute poopy in pvp, but after months of playing it, and learning my weapons, as well as learning player predictability, it's not uncommon now for me to put 5-6 players down in one life. Got my first "We ran out of medals" last night, after literal years of being the worst performing player in matches.
dope video as always. quick question tho, what’s that shader on ur pali?
im actually surprised by this video. usually tip videos are useless but i would actually recommend this one to others
Great info! Appreciate it!
Glad it was helpful!
@@CastleContent For sure :) a lot of things people do not even think about.
This was really helpful! I was at 1280 trying to do iron banner, I went from .17 kd all the way to .83!
love itttt
@@CastleContent just hit 1300 btw!
To strafe res with a reg controller literally just claw sounds weird at first but you get the hang of it fast and your flicks will be impeccable
For the radar tip it can go more in depth with it. I hate to mention someone else but Fallout expands on the topic of the rader and the finer things about it that can help you understand it even better than what you already know
Edit: look up radar school Fallout plays.
Holy shit. These tips are amazing!
Thank you!
