I find Cecilia Bartoli's interpretation comical. The coloratura passages sound chopped off - it should still sound "legato-ish", she makes it sound almost like staccato. And her pronunciation is akin to one trying to effect a twang.
First, this is just too low for Sutherland. The brightness of her voice doesn't come out in this. As for Fleming, this isn't really a show piece for her. Her voice is wasted in this piece. She's got such a rich voice and is such a great actress. There's no room for that here. The "Allelulia" is perfect for singers such as Elly Ameling, Kiri Te Kanawa, Kathleen Battle, Frederica Von Stade and others with lighter voices. But that said Fleming can certainly toss of a coloratura when she needs to! I agree that Cecilia has some odd affectations in her performance, but I bet she could do it at twice the speed!
Renee Fleming is a great singer but she cannot live in this company. She is merely brash in comparison. Joan Sutherland is so accurate and understated, it is probably the truest interpretation. Bartoli revels in it and gives us a 21st century version.
Bartoli has atrocious pronunciation. The coloratura was plosive instead of rolling. Her trill was cadential and not an actual trill. Wrong on ALL counts.
The incomparable Joan Sutherland.
I like Julia Letzneva and Sumi Jo's interpretation.

Peccato che la Bartoli trasformi in buffonata tutto quello che canta

Valentina Balluk Sorry. I can't agree with you. Renée is the best! Bartolommeo, in this piece, is Yuck
@@janetflier6192you need some hearing checking then...
@@janetflier61926:10 just this makes me laugh, she's like a trampled hen 😂
Sutherland sings. Fleming tries to. Bartoli gargles.

That cadential trill is actually useful at the ending of o zittre nicht, just before the high F, right?
Fleming cannot sing coloratura. Period.
