I have six 3 year old Chickens, got 6 pullets yesterday, the older ones are pecking the life out of them. I know it's nature but it's hurts my feelings.
Have you tried the recommendation... distraction and entertainment? Did it work? I want to know bcos I'm planning on introducing some new layers to my old ones
How I keep my roosters from fighting, well, first of all I have no hens, but five roosters. We wound up with roosters on accident. My cousin won the eggs at the fair, and he gave the babies to us after they hatched. Hoping they would all be hens, they wound up being roosters. Four can live in the same cage without too much trouble, one does have to be separated. How I have to stop the roosters from fighting; they know by now that I won't let them fight in my presence, so, now all i have to do is usually clap at them, and they stop. What I used to do, I would wait 'til they're in a downward position, while their neck feathers are ruffled up as they see each other. I would both gently and firmly grab both their backs and not too roughly push them down. They then know I'm the leader. All of my roosters are tame toward people, so that's good. They do buck up and bite, but they're harmless for the most part.
Fitrt of all chickens arent domesticated theh are wild. And roosters can be territorial. You cant teach them tricks like dogs. The only thing you can do is to know and let them know your place in the pack. I am the alpha of my pack my 12 roosters know that and so do the neighbors roosters. And trust me in total i have up to 50 chickens. You Will Have an agressive rooster if you and he dosent know your place REMEMBER ALWAYS be the ALPHA of your pack
Julio JA1 Yep. First of all, I let them know I'm not a rooster...I'm meaner. LOL I'm still gentle tho. I just don't put up with the bad behavior. I give them respect, they give it back...they screw up, I'll let them know they did. They're kind of like dogs really, they're all sweet enough, except without teaching them the tricks. I may wind up getting rid of a few of them because I need hens. I don't have enough to keep these and hens too. :(
Kay Ly im having the same thing but mine are chicks, little ones, i only have 2, i won them from a carnival, the other one pecks the other's foot, i dont know if this is natural or not but im afraid the other one is gonna die.
DianaCrafter_18 Aaaaaaaw, that's the best time to get them, is when they are chicks. Two is a good number to have, because they are social birds, but you can pay more attention to just the two as pets. When I had mine as chicks they did peck each other a bit. That's one way you can tell who is going to be the dominant one, but they never hurt eachother. Are they both roosters or do you know? If you feel one is sick, I don't recommend this. Give it all the care it needs, and please let me know if the chick survives, or if you need help, I do recommend Google for baby chick care guides and care. One tip, is to always wash your hands (warm water, for 20 seconds) before and after handling. That is a must. If it's because of the pecking problem, you shouldn't worry that much. They should be together so they should get used to each other when they are older. If it becomes a problem, you can separate them. Also you can determine the behavior depending on the breed of them. Different breeds are known to have different personalities, but every rooster is different. I have two Rhode Island Red roosters which are known to have temper issues and aggressive, but mine are quite friendly. Hope this helps... =) God bless, and good luck. If you want to, if you have any questions let me know.
We have younger chickens and older chickens they live in the same coop but they don’t flock together today we noticed one of our full grown hens was flocking with the younger chickens outside we thought it was weird and we came back an hour later to see a massive chunk taken out of one of my younger hens head blood everywhere so we knew it was her that did it so we hung the hen that attacked by it’s feet for 30 seconds which doesn’t harm them at all to prevent that from happening and the reason why she was flocking with the younger chickens for a while before the attack was to get away for the rooster. Roosters don’t allow hen on hen fighting and they also won’t attack the hens themselves so to prevent this from happening again we are going to buy a new coop to separate the chickens and in the meantime we will do separate outdoor times between the older chickens and smaller chickens so this can’t happen again
I thought they get stressed with shiny objects (like that CD) I have 4 teen chicks and so far 1 grew out his wattle, he is showing aggression and picking on the 2 smaller ones' combs, its stressing me out I dont want them to fight.
Good video and just bought your book from amazon. I will try making more space and we are converting the shed in a few months with a 12f x 9ft caged area so I hope this will stop the pecking any more private advice would be welcome
A chicken swing. Brilliant. I think I'll have to build a theme park to keep these two from destroying each other. This hen ripped the other one apart and drew blood in two spots.
Everything was fine between my chickens and rooster for months. One day my rooster decided to beat the heck out of just one of my hens and won't stop. Any ideas what to do? i have separated them for a time and the something keeps happening.
My chick is grown up into a roster he used to bite me when ever I m busy in work or whenever I feed him Can you tell me how to prevent my roaster from biting
Khudaija Bawany can you pick him up ? I raised a rooster from a chick, I always picked him up and and made a friend out of him, he was also separated from the hens. Never turn your back in him😉
The chicken on the swing was having a blast of a time!
it was a ball!
