- We created the Gear Guard security system for Rivian vehicles to give you greater peace of mind on all your adventures. On R1T, we use a combination of five cameras embedded around the truck, a braided steel cable that secures items in the bed and on the roof, and a watchful (but friendly) animated Gear Guard character in the center display to protect the things you care about while you’re away.

Rivian promo video quality is just top-notch. So satisfying to watch!
Love the editing on this. Most car manufactures would've made this a manual startup style video but Rivian actually made this a really entertaining watch

@@aminfozdar indeed. Tesla was definitely the one that pioneered that innovation.
Gear guard will catch EVERY single individual walking their dog by your car at all hours but it won't catch the guy that banged his door into yours, nor the snowboarder who hit your car with his board, nor the baseball that hit your car, the scratch on your side panel... who knows because GearGuard didn't get one of those on film. It did however, get every individual walking their dog near my car at 3 a.m. so that's always neat.

Would also like gear guard protect us from ourselves also. I know a number of people that have forgotten bikes mounted on top of their cars only to pull into their garage to hear a sickening crunch. It sure would be nice if Rivian screen could remind you of that fact when approaching home.
It should be a minor software update. Have the bed camera note when you have loads above cab height and when the truck is within a half mile of home a warning pops up on the screen reminding you of that fact. In the case of loads on the roof rack, that might have to be done manually i.e., you have tell the truck you have loads on the roof racks and the truck screens would remind you of that fact within a half mile of home

Gear Guard is available on all Electric Adventure Vehicles to protect the things you care about on your adventures! Both models provide a video recording feature and remote monitoring capabilities. In the R1T, a cut-resistant locking cable wraps around gear and plugs into the bed wall to connect directly into the security system to offer additional protection to anything you bring along the way. Having had two not at fault accidents lately, dash cam is off invaluable practicality. Please allow cameras to record while driving from all angles. Also include a plug for remote (trailer) cameras.

I’ve seen many reviewers says the Rivian cameras are not of very good resolution, in fact many state, fairly poor. Is this something that can be OTA updated or is the hardware itself low quality?
What resoultion are they 1080? or 720?
Agreed, please fix the video quality before putting out a flex on this feature. The recordings are only as useful as the video clarity.
Also add a true 360 view, there's plenty of cameras angles (11) to stitch this together.
I’ve looked at footage from the gear guard. It’s way better than Tesla cam footage for sure

Is this not on R1S? I don’t have gear guard in my R1S. App says enable in vehicle but there’s no option to enable it in any settings.

QUESTION: Can you use the Gear Guard cable with the tonneau cover closed? (as in if the bike is on the rack, but there are loose items locked under the tonneau)

I highly doubt it. From the videos I've watched the cable just has an open loop on the end which locks by the mechanism in the bed. So with the cover closed it wouldn't have a way to access the panel that locks it.
The only way it would work is if you wrapped the cable to the object outside the cover. Then provided your own lock to put through the open loops at the end of the cable. However it wouldn't be activated by someone tugging on it like it would through the bed connection.

Cable should work with a continuity detection system to trigger an alarm. The cameras don't actually activate an alarm so it's not a huge deterrent. Plus having 11 cameras and the driver can only access 2 of them is ridiculous. Otherwise a great vehicle! 👍

What happens when somebody who has masked himself/herself e.g. as a Yeti (or a Bigfoot) will reach out to my R1T and spray grafito on all camera lenses just before heist my gear?

I got my R1S and I am not impressed with gear guard. It drains the battery. Also cameras sometimes miss if person goes from around. It is not recording on all camera if person moves around

Video was not helpful unfortunately. Received truck two days ago. How do I turn on Gear Guard? Instructions say to do it from the "Vehicle" menu but there's no button to turn it on for the first time. Welp, off to Reddit I go, lol. 😕

By the end of this year when the market takes a nose dive we may be looking at a steep uptick in insurance fraud aimed at drivers in “fancy” vehicles. I can’t invest in something that won’t protect me from a no fault incident while the car is on the road. There’s no point if I have to install additional cameras and a separate battery for said cameras.

Every car company misleads their new customers with this elaborate beautiful story about an amazing truck for 50K then after a couple of fools takes the bait they up the price for over 70K. Greedy companies won't last, it's only a matter of time before something else comes up and they become ancient. A bunch of trucks stuck with no updates or parts.

cool and all but what is the purpose of the camera? It is not really a deterrent. Need active safety measures for your stuff i.e. blinding lights or something of this nature. Cameras nowadays are no deterrent and criminals just wear a mask and will steal. having evidence they stole does nothing to get back your stuff.

It must be hard for a lot of these engineers and software developers to admit they stole the idea from Tesla sentry mode 🙈 then present a features that portray pioneers in this features. Yeh lots of former Tesla employees work a rivian, and that’s why the interior design is so similar too

@@aminfozdar Somewhat true, but Rivian is been designing their car interior for a long time, what surprises me is that amount of software being cooy or you might say steal from Tesla even if former Tesla employees works for them now.

Aside from stopping opportunistic thieves from simply grabbing and walking off with the equipment, the cable will be useless at protecting against theft. Would have liked to have seen something much more secure.
I've yet to see a secure cable lock that will actually withstand genuine attacks
