  • Lower Manhattan Resident Cathy L., and DSNY World Trade Center Recovery Worker Anthony P. share their personal stories of September 11th in their 9/11 Tribute Museum presentation of We Were There on stage at the National September 11th Memorial Museum.
Cathy went into the labor on the morning of 9/11 before the attack began. She was in her apartment near the WTC when the first plane hit, and emotionally recounts calling her mom, packing, and getting caught in the dust storm of the collapsing buildings. Cathy and her husband eventually got picked up by an ambulance that had come for pregnant women, and her baby girl was born on September 12 at 3AM.
Anthony gives an emotional account of the pride he feels at having been a part of the recovery effort, and speaks about the role of the Department of Sanitation after the attacks. Their role included having to remove the steel from the site, removing garbage created by the hundreds of thousands of recovery workers, throwing away rotten food from the restaurants and stores that had to be closed, and more.

How scary to be in labor at a time like that!
Both of your stories brought me to tears.
September 11th is an illustration of the very worst of humanity and the very best of humanity.
    May God bless us all!

I’m from Virginia (about 20 mins out of DC) and had many loved ones at the Pentagon :(
I was 15 and in high school the day of the attack. 9/11 will never ever be forgotten.

I’m curious as to how you had so many loved ones in the pentagon when you were 15, was it family? Also now that I reread my comment it sounds a little disrespectful just know I don’t mean it in any way like that! Genuinely curious

It occurs to me watching this that with 10,000 people having cancer that there is a horrible time limit these folks will have to on telling their story. These videos will exist long after they are gone and will testify to the horrors they experienced. These videos will help us to never forget.
