I've played a few of these and Monster Sanctuary is by far my favourite, I enjoy the game more than any monster tamer I've played, and the only negative I have is that it's a very challenging game(which is my favourite part!) Every monster level up lets you add to the mons skill tree, gaining either stronger attacks or unique passive abilities. Mons were designed so that they are all viable, they all can be used in a variety of ways and roles, and the power level is balanced leading to constant incentive of choice and teambuilding. By exploring hidden paths, I discovered brand new Mons that I wouldn't have seen otherwise, and the mechanics of the battles are incredibly engaging. This game also has fantastic creature design, and battling through some bosses in the game genuinely felt like a well made puzzle, as I put together teams of fresh Mons that I had never used. Also, no grinding! Level scaling is present throughout the game, and new Mons are caught will always be close to the level of your team. I've played Coromon and personally it's my least favourite alternative so far, it just felt too much like pokemon, and my first playthrough I did hardmode and ended up spending hours and hours grinding my team. Even without hardmode I still likely would have had to level up new mons, and that doesn't do it for me.
