Great job Jamie! I was a little hesitant on if you would touch on all the aspect of it as for many KPI is quite a difficult topic but you explained it very well! One thing to add is to understand how it works along with caster. Especially the aspect of added pressure on the tire and how it effects steering. The scrub radius explanation was really good too but one aspect that people miss is the actual sweep of the tire during steering when you have high offset and/or low KPI. Effectively your outside wheel moves forwards and your inside wheel moves backwards when you steer. This obviously creates the twitchyness on initial steering you were talking about.
Fun fact, Robinson Racing made an 18 degree kingpin/hub kit which did the same thing for the JRX2 and RC10 back in the late '80s. It wasn't adjustable and I'm not sure how many people actually used it but I don't believe we've had another KPI adjustment available since for 2whl 1/10 off road. Great vid!
Is there a technical reason why more KPI is more mid corner steering given the outer tire will have less camber that a zero KPI knuckle in mid corner? Thanks.
I would immediately wonder if these parts will bolt on to a b6.4(and work properly) or not. If so it would be a nice little update to the car without too much spend.
1:47 is it though? my understanding was that is was JUST offset, because that how the 2 points are. if this was the goal then why didnt they just angle the king pin instead of making an offset. offset doesnt mean angle. instead of your angled line on the left wouldnt it just be a strait up and down line between the 2 mounting points? how is the angle adjsuted?
Nice video. Only problem is AE could have come up with this anytime in the last 40 years. For them to keep putting out new kits every 5 minutes with these different changes and so called innovations just makes a mockery of the RC car business. All these yearly changes do nothing for the sport in fact Id go as far as say Craig Drescher would beat 95 % of club and regional racers with his RC10 from the mid 90's without any of the gimmicks on it ! Its just a money grab
Not on carpet he wouldn't a rear motor doesn't carry much high speed steering. If Xray didn't bring a new model out every year then AE probably wouldn't feel the need to do so as often. The newer cars are all made more towards racing on higher traction surfaces, with carpet being the main one and now biggest in Europe

This playlist is great for understanding these concepts:

Great explanation. Thank you for your effort to explain vehicle dynamics so in detail.
Thanks. Good job explaining this.

Serpent has used this for a while now too
Thanks for all the videos m8
Excellent info 👍

The inclination causes less camber on the outside wheel, does it mean we'll have longer lasting front tires?
Good to hear a proper engineering explanation. There's a lot of pseudo science with RC drivers.
caster, camber, and toe in, is what you adjust king pin is use for I beams
Yeah, this is what I thought ❤

Guys doing it on T6's...

Do you just troll Team Associated pages? NO ONE CARES about your nonsense. Keep tying though 😂🤣

You're such an asset to AE. Love these videos
