    Your doing a good job getting your channel going, Your not rambling! You are expressing your thoughts to the people watching your channel and it's all interesting and enjoyable to watch how things came about in the building of that beautiful bike!! Your father is some kind of special!! It is so cool that you two worked together to get the bike the way we see it now!! My daughter doesn't have much intrest in a relationship with me and it breaks my heart!! I have been riding motorcycles since my first little 50cc Honda when I was 8, Now at 57 I still love the lifestyle!! You just keep at it building your channel! that air bleed jet is on the carbs from 2004 back it adds a little air when you pull up the enricher ,they changed it to the front, the SS backing plate is drilled to match the location . if a person changes the air cleaner and the hole isn't there , there is a plug under that location that must come out .

    The screw you are asking about on your carb is an adjustable air bleed. Have you checked the float level? Your carb has a Thunder jet. How big is your engine? One thing I noticed as you are kicking you are twisting the throttle each time. All the kick start shovels I've had I turn the fuel on, choke on, one or two shots with the throttle to prime, two kicks ignition off, then kick with the ignition on. I hold on to the bars away from the throttle while kicking, usually the master cylinder.

    • @RedRiderCanadaBC
      @RedRiderCanadaBC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey KenFresno, thanks for watching! And thank you for mentioning that screw, I thought it was something like that but didn’t know for sure. My engine was a 93 inch stroker and then I had the jugs rebored and new pistons so I’m thinking it slightly bigger now (guy who did the work went wacky so I can’t get any info from him about what exactly has been done). I’ve adjusted my technique a little bit based off advise I have gotten from some very knowledgeable people on here, so I’m not giving it as much gas anymore…
      My carb doesn’t have a choke though so I don’t have that option, it has an enrichment valve but I have never had any luck with that.
      I currently have the thunder jet blocked off (not sure that I need it open) and float should be good. I have a couple days off so I am going to go over a few things and make sure things are adjusted as they should be, also going to check my timing. Last few times I’ve taken it out I have turned in the switch that my VOES is hooked up to (which advances the timing just a bit) while I’m kicking it and found it seems to like that a lot better. So I’m going to play around with the timing a bit too.

    • @kenfresno4583
      @kenfresno4583 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RedRiderCanadaBC I should have been more clear. The enrichener (choke) on the S&S works very well. I haven't had issues with one but I suppose you could. Might want to check it out. Also, after you shut off the bike after a ride note the oil level in your oil tank. If after sitting for a few days it drops the engine is wet sumping. If it's cool out kicking an engine full of 50wt oil is tough to say the least. There is a check valve (ball with spring) in the oil pump that minimizes the wet sumping.

    • @RedRiderCanadaBC
      @RedRiderCanadaBC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh I see, thanks for clarifying. I’ll try the enricher and see how that goes for me. My bike has been known to wet sump a bit, but only after sitting for the winter and only on the first start up. I’ll take note of the oil level next time a take it out and see if it goes down any at all. I pulled my check ball out when the motor was redone and it looked good to me. From what I understood, it’s not unusual for these things to have a bit of oil get past that ball if the bike has been sitting for a while…

    • @kenfresno4583
      @kenfresno4583 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RedRiderCanadaBC Correct. The drag of not using the S&S air cleaner is it has a lever that lets you adjust how much enrichener you use. That cool little deal you have only let's you put it on or off. I'm finishing a shovel now with a bee catcher and that type of enrichener so I'll see how it goes. On my FLH with a super E, when it starts with the lever all the way up the idle is way up so you lower the lever a bit as it warms up. No babying the throttle needed.

    • @RedRiderCanadaBC
      @RedRiderCanadaBC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, it would be nice to have some sort of lever that allows me to regulate that a little easier… 🤔 maybe can figure out how to put something on there.

    I didn't scroll through all the comments, so I'm not sure if your question about the carb got answered. The external main jet on your carb is an air-bleed. I, and many others have them on their S&S Es. They help equalize the air in your carb and can help level out any flat spots you may get in acceleration. Not sure what altitude you live at, but I live in Denver Colorado and we are one mile above sea level. The air bleed really helps here.

    • @db13401
      @db13401 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad I read this far I was going to tell the same...the external jet is to equalize pressure in the carb and prevent vapor lock...

    thanks for showing the details, i was hoping that you would. i really love the handmade stuff and the copper and brass look. and the seat is great. did you build most of that bike? i can appreciate all that hard work. i am a professional transmission rebuilder and all-around mechanic. the bike sounds great, what's not to love,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    • @RedRiderCanadaBC
      @RedRiderCanadaBC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Hey, thanks for watching! There are definitely MORE details I could show too…
      I was into the steampunk thing when the bike was going together so that why all the copper and stuff… I like it. And then just using whatever was kicking around the shop for different things (like my catch tank). As for the handy work and fabricating, I have to give credit to my dad. He’s been building custom motorcycles since I was a baby. I bought this when I was 16 (14 years ago) with the plan that my dad and I would build it together and then sell… but then I got addicted to speed (as in going very fast) and I can’t imagine myself selling this beauty now! It’s been with me for half my life at this point- definitely a labour of love!
      So-to answer your question-yes my dad and I built this bike. 🙂

      @@RedRiderCanadaBC thanks for the reply red! yea no way i would sell it. it is very close to what i would like to have. i had a Harley in 02 but lost interest, now i am in the middle of finishing my 86 monte carlo SS, it is a beautiful machine. but maybe when i am done with it i will look for an old panhead or shovel. i just retired from building transmissions and need to keep on keeping on. ride safe,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    Hey, I just ran across your channel. I'm not sure if anyone answered your question or not about the jet in the carb at around 5:30 in the video. That's an air bleed circuit modification that's done to add a little more tunaibility to the carb. They are usually tapped to accept a Holley automotive carb jet. The air bleed circuit is already there from the factory, but it is metered by a fixed orifice. Tapping it for a jet adds adjustability for fine tuning. The thunder jet also adds further adjustability over the original S&S configuration by adding a completely new fuel circuit to feed the top end of the WOT range, allowing the main jet to be downsized to help clean up the mid range. Hope this helps!

    I really like your lead sled. My grandfather's last bike was a 74 shovel and he gave it to me before he past in 1992 I was 7 I think but anyways I stripped it down because it was a flh and now it's a bobber and I love driving it .
