Just found this clip! I'm in the middle of a M38 restoration myself and I will follow you with great interrest. Since my project is very slow moving I've had a lot of time to read up on many details. Over time you realize that stuff you thought was original actually don't belong to the jeep. And things you think you should remove are original or official army modification. So as a note if you are not aware of it, the small patches at the upper rear corners of the tub at 4:50 are actually a official Army Modification Work Order (MWO ORD G740-W6) to be performed at next maintenance or repare. Doesn't look good but was done to all m38's in the US Army. Great to see you are doing it right and not cutting corners. Good luck!
I got an M38 too, and I actually totally love the reinforcement patches at the rear, as far as i know they were necessary for the arctic top, it makes them M38s so unique 🙂Great Job!
So those patches on the rear upper exterior portions of the tub are pieces that were installed in the field by the motor pool in that of the military branch it was assigned too. They were installed to stiffen the tub as they are prone to cracking on those spots
It would but in my experience welding sheet metal, the welder doesn’t get hot enough to burn through the primer and it ends up burning a hole in the sheet metal. I’d rather weld everything first, clean up the welds, then primer.

Thank you! What if I told you it wasn't?
@@SFJ4x4 I’d be shocked! I love that song and that type of music. My wife and I were singing along. Luckily nobody else heard us! 🤣🤣🤣

Yes, every 38 in Hawaii I've seen or owned had those plates, never removed one to look for od paint under neath.
So cool. Amazing work
Looks like Bob Barker's microphone.
Neil you look like Drew Carey with The Price Is Right microphone..
Wouldn’t it make sense to use a weld-through primer on all those laminated body panels?!?

What’s the ETA on completion?
You may want to turn off the tv 📺 when filming so we don’t hear the tv and you at the same time
