There's an ancient fortress in Ireland with tragic past. A young bride leapt to her death from the ramparts on her wedding night. Now she haunts the ruins of the fort and nearby town of Kinsale.

Glad to see you back! I really enjoy your ghost stories and history lessons. I often wonder about demonic presences. I think they feed on tragedy, unresolved anger and especially despair.

I would have to agree! I imagine peace and love would drive them away.

Such a tragic and heartbreaking story. Wilful's father and husband rest in peace, but her heart break was so great she cannot find any rest. I actually got the chills when you said she looked straight at her father as she announced and carried out her death. The full on horror of the moment. As I listened to the accounts of her appearing to children, it seems like her soul is both mourning and longing for the children she would have had with Trevor. Plus, I wonder if the attack on the medic was done out of anger or spite, because a doctor was not able to save her new husband. Wilful carried out her name life and continues to even in death. 😢

    Take aways from this tragedy:
    * Dont expect obedience, from a child you name Willful.
*When your beloved asks for flowers: pick them yourself.
*To awaken a miscreant sentry: kicking is more effective than a bullet.

What if Col. Warrenger used the situation to dispatch his daughter's new husband, of whom he disapproved in the first place. Then seeing his daughter's reaction and subsequent death, he realized the error of his ways and...hmmm! Curious. Great to hear another tale from Curious History! Excellent content and presentation. Thanx

It sounds to me like more than one haunting. I wonder if Wilful's still there, but the demon who tempted her and her family to ruin was exorcised? I don't believe that suicidal people are damned--they're not in their right minds. But the spirits who tempted them are, and they themselves might need extra prayers and love to recover and move on.

Somehow I doubt parents would actually name a child 'Willful' particularly a girl. It seems like it must be a later addition.

Such a tragic tale that destroyed a family in a matter of minutes. My Irish ancestry goes back to County Cork.
My Scots side is Clan Gunn. The story tells of Helen of Braemore Caithness and how lovely she was. She was betrothed to her cousin Alexander Gunn, whom she'd known since she was a child.
One day prominent male member of the nearby Clan Keith saw Helen and made an indecent proposal to her which she rejected.
On the day of Helen's wedding, this same man came with other members of his Clan and attacked, they killed some of the Gunns and carried off Helen.
Suffice to say he had his way with Helen who he'd imprisoned in the top of Ackergil Tower.
Helen, rather than live, asked a guard to let her walk the top of the tower. Knowing she could not escape, he allowed it. She threw herself off the tower to her death.
    This happened pre 1450.

Such a horrible tragedy! When and how did you learn about this?

    • @Rags2Itches

@@CuriousHistoryYT To start with I have a copy of a family photo of my great grandparents, their children, so my great aunts and uncles.....add in their wives, husbands an a few babes in arms .
My grandfather was five years old when that photo was taken right before they immigrated to America in 1905 from Falkirk Scotland.
From a very young age, I new about the pride of Clan Gunn and our clan tartan, which was still worn and our clan motto of Aux Pax Aux Bellum.
(Either peace or war) My Father had a small book of Clan tartans with each motto and a bit of each clan's history. I don't know where this little book came from, but I suspect if was from my Great Grandfather.
In that book was the story of Helen of Braemore.
We have an old picture of my great grandfather in full Clan dress and much later one of my father as a young boy in full clan dress. Dad was born in 1930, so the picture was taken around 1938.
I'm thinking I was around nine or ten when I read that story and I'm 68 now.

Very well presented, like all your videos!
Seems the white lady is not the unfortunate bride but something terrible, let's hope since the exorcism it has disappeared. And I sure hope the bride has found peace together with her husband in the spirit world.

Tales such as this, remind us not to attach ourselves to the things of this world, else it may be our hell in the next world. A tragic tale, hopefully that exorcism did the job.
