I dreamt up this game literally in 1987. As I was waking up a vision of a game called “Uncle Fester’s Playhouse came to me. (Kind of inspired by Pee Wee’s Playhouse name. I pitched the idea to Sunsoft Japan and they said, who would care about this old tv show? Lots of convincing. Then I called Charles Addams’ widow in Switzerland and began a long series of expensive phone calls from Chicago to secure the license. My apologies as the game is so difficult, Sunsoft Japan dev team ran out of time and refused to adjust it. BTW, I’m Richard Robbins, former VP of Sunsoft from 86-89. Cheers and thanks for the fun memories.
Thank you very much for the information and background. I had no idea what the story was on this. But I was always curious about the licensing and the difficulty.
This is one of the best gaming videos I've ever seen. I love Mikes commentary and chat. And I love it when he locks in and focuses and then ends up raging. ...its TV gold man, keep it coming!
"I need my pain." Pretty cool you're quoting Kirk in Star Trek V, cause you're kind of like Sybok, in your own way. You share your pain with us here, and we all gain strength from the sharing.
Some days ago I was listening to its soundtrack again and remembered your first gameplay. What a sweet coincidence! It was one of the coziest streams ever, like one of those game marathons with your friends. I miss those.
This game perfectly rides that line where there's so many bizarre and awful design choices all across the board, but its got just enough going for it to play it to completion and go "I guess that was alright."
@@mikematei That was my comment Mike. Im sorry man. What a jerk I am! I couldn't tell if you were joking or not, but I kind of thought you were. Great job man!
2:45:32 - 2:45:53 Best way to say the Bugs Bunny line, hands down. 2:59:40 , 3:01:46 I like how his reaction is kinda slow, like his brain has to comprehend the horror of that spider-like thing.
Missed it unfortunately live. Though I love that in the first five minutes you explain why you've come back to it. Because in cases like this I am never too sure with you whether you are just in the mood to replay the game again or if your goldfish memory caused you to forget that you already beat this game on stream LOL
I feel like I've been watching you play this stream on and off for a year now. I love Mike, he gets so impatient over doing something that takes 10 seconds, tries to rush thru it, but it's literally impossible to rush, then winds up costing himself 10 minutes of time. He does it consistently, too, like 20 - 30 times in this stream alone he's cost himself probably a good 2 hours of having to replay and redo things which would've been only 1 minute if he'd just not been impatient the first time. His torture brought on by his own lack of insight into his character is Sisyphean comedy gold.
1:30:45 Amazing synchronicity with the eyes and mysterious music cue. Only live uncut footage like that can provide this kind of funny, peculiar and genuine content.
Just played trough Festers Quest 🤓 Found out you can just stand on the upper right corner and use missiles to defeat the boss. No potions, no nothing needed 👍🏻
I love your content, commentary, and games you play. It is easy to get rusty at these especially when you play such a huge variety. So long as you enjoyed then it was worth it. I couldn't watch this whole stream but it was fun. Fester's Quest is one of my favorites. I think I have those purple things seared into my mind along with the frogs, slimes, and those mosquito face things. Have a good one, Mike. :D
not really, but at least when it's live, I've would have been able to communicate in the chat. But hey, you replied to my comment, so that's also communication. Thanks Mike @@mikematei
“Was that the guy talking about eating dirt? Ohh no I was the was one talking about eating dirt.” Holy shit I laughed so fucking hard at that. Mike’s high as a kite.

_Suggested theme song lyrics for this game_ ... "Game is a troll. (snap, snap) Game is a troll. (snap, snap) Game is a troll. (X3) (snap, snap) Wa, wa, wa, wah." (And that little fart sound is where the 'thumbs down' goes. Mike gives a thousand expressions that reflect that fact. And that list. Perfect points for programmers that want to troll their players.
Uh oh lol. This freaking game...so rage inducing! I prefer sunsofts better game of Blaster Master. Hard game, but its good. Controls, battle mechanics, menu system, all good, and not at all like how festers quest is programmed lol. I like to think that festers quest was a test for blaster master, eveen if its not true, i still like to think it.😆 Thanks for the upload Mike. Excited to watch you play this, and watch you rage.😁💜🤝
Hey Mike, I was briefly at this stream. Do you have the SNES “Exertainment” bike and any game(s) to go with it? I’ve never seen you, James, Scott the Woz, or Let’s Play channel actually use one.
I was just thinking of Mike's comments on how the game could be improved, and another way would be to have weapon upgrades be in a store so you can purchase them. You pick up all this money that has no purpose other than buying hotdogs. Hotdogs cost five dollars a piece, completely fill up your health, and you can collect health potions that completely refill your health on top of that. The money is largely extraneous. I think having health pickups spawn on the ground and gun/whip upgrades be in a store would be a huge improvement.
Whats reallllly odd is that I just rewatched @UCanBeatVideoGames broadcast of this a year ago; and its fun to see Mike blow his bloodpressure through the roof.
Mike, how come you never uploaded the rampart stream to TH-cam? Its one of my favorites and has already expired on twitch. Are you saving it for patreon or something?
This was the only game I had for the NES when I first got it, This and Turtles if I remember right. Played it forever! I am in PAL region, which is probably why i never noticed things wrong with the game.
I know this is gonna sound crazy, but I would love to see some updates of this game. Like maybe a version with 16-bit graphics, a version with modern graphics, a version with original graphics but without the glitchy visuals. I'd buy that for a dollar on steam.
7:17:20 hoping this happens soon. The difference between the two tvs is massive. Graphics are like night/day. Always CRT for retro for me. Also glad you revisited this one..not a great game but worth playing again, I think.
Couldn’t agree more. Not sure if it will ever happen as I’m not a tech guy but anyway until then crt is the only way I will play retro. Some people don’t care but for those of us who do there really is no other option currently.
40:20 I think SCP Containment Breach is an example of a great game made for free, given for free still, and with no microtransactions or anything. it's a spooky challenging game, but awesome.
Mike, I was the one with the comment about your "awful" memory. Dude, I am sorry. I am such a jerk!
