  • Watch Richard Diebenkorn at work on the large aquatint, Green; Red-Yellow-Blue; and an unfinished print. In this video, shot by Kathan Brown, Diebenkorn works through the process of creating an etching with printer Marcia Bartholme.

My morbid pleasure was sticking with Dibenkorn throughout his determination to complete the print...my mind was to print and paint on that small triangle. We must appreciate the hard work that went into a print. Thank you for sharing this video.

Wow, to watch Diebenkorn at work. To see the really small things and many decisions that go into making a great print is a great lesson in patience and persistence. Happy to take the abandoned print off your hands CPP.

... great archive video - reminding us how much creativity, sheer hard work and tenacity go into creating an artist's print. Diebenkorn comes across as a gentle soul who clearly has a vision and sticks to it. The body language of tolerance is great from the technicians as they struggle at times to share his vision and work with his perfectionist streak ... but Marcia is fabulously patient. These days prints are made to dub-techno rather than classical music, of course ...

I take such morbid pleasure in watching a master such as Diebenkorn getting frustrated with the medium! Great video, thanks for sharing!

I know it's not magic, I do it every day... which is why it's nice to see I'm not the only one that struggles through it.

None of that work would have been accomplished without her unbelievable talent and patience. It seemed, in the beginning, Richard didn't have a clue ~~~~ WTF am I doing here!

Yes it's magic, that's why we still do it every day. For me, at least.
