My son and I love this video. We stayed on New River a week ago and did well with a fluke-like rig with fake hellgrammites. Looking forward to a trip soon on Greenbrier and probably move our way to Bluestone River and hit the trail. Love the videos man. I've watched a good many vids where they blerb the name of the lure under their breath and while looking rhe other way. They never seem to actually show the lure or set-up. I’m glad you consider 20 inch smallies giants cause I watch another channel, NDKayakFishing and he catches them like they’re sun fish it seems. Where I fish. 15 inch 1-3 lb are the common nicer fish.
Clifford Farley yeah where I fish 15 inches is about the average. If you catch a smallmouth over 20 inches that should be a trophy anywhere lol although I have seen his channel and he does consistently catch some giants! Thanks for watching

There is, but the fishing is still decent. It's gotten worse over the years because of the trout stockings. The bass fishing is best when they don't stock because it gets less pressure and the bass have more room to move around and do their thing.
At awe on the video, great work. Congrats. on the 21" smallmouth, enjoyed the scenery also. What county where you in? I'm in Wyoming County WV. I've fished Bluestone river but no area as beautiful as that. Also thanks for showing us how to use the Neko Rig, great setup. You got me hooked. I'm getting some miles on me, just about forgot that area. I've fished Tazwell Va. and Lashmeet WV. area. Been many years since I been In Pipestem. I knew I would find it, great spot for sure. Jon - did you guys ever get on any brood down in there. WVU was involved in a study down in there near where your at in this video back in 07-08 and they put some monsters down in there. I think they were mainly put in there for folks that stayed the lodge across the River and they kinda frowned on anglers going down in there and getting after them. I have wanted to hike down in there from the top for years and check that out. Another good video buddy. Keep up the good work.
Art Petty no man, the fish in there can’t survive the summer there. The water gets really warm (70+ degrees). I have caught trout in there as late as June after they were stocked in April, but never any later than that. It’s catch and keep after May due to the lack of survival.
As Jason mentioned, Mad Tom's, u wont find a better bait. Especially for Trophy smallies. I pour all kinds of imitation baits for large and smallmouth bass. Not sure why but haven't been able to replicate a mad Tom bait that produces. I believe its a combination of the smarts of a big smallmouth and the necessity for the bait size to be very large to duplicate the mad Tom. Good job on the video

I’ve been on that tram a few times! Beautiful park.. never bothered fishing bc I figured there was too much pressure.

that fish you caught with your bare hands is called a mad tom and it is absolutely the best small mouth bait!!!
Jason k yeah man! I’ve actually figured out what it was after the video! My dad actually did a lot of research on them in college.
