What a crazy mind-fuck movie. I don't think I have ever been the same since. Everyone who is anyone should have to watch this movie before enlisting into any branch of the service.
Note how the boss is dressed like a European monarch of that era. America may not have a monarchy, but we are ruled by Captain Industry. Simply brilliant portrayal!
@@douglasbubbletrousers4763 I seen the movie. Haven't read the book yet. The movie was really messed up. I couldn't make it through the first time because while there was nothing graphic, Joe's description of his injuries hurt my heart. While I heard the song, I never seen the music video until after watching the movie.
I remember seeing this one Christmas as a kid in the 70's. I was sick and it made me feel soooo weird watching this. Lol the fevered already had me loopty loo.. this made it worse. X)
A nightmare. I just got that he's walking backwards because he's slowly waking up from his dream and him shaking his head is him just tossing in turning in bed.
I don't think we're supposed to take everything in this scene as having some basis on what actually happened. The scene up until the Boss actually starts giving a speech is pretty heavily symbolic (like the rest of the film--which I think does a brilliant job of capturing the Jungian wilderness of the subconscious and dream states. The rest of the characters in that section of the scene are all speaking and moving symbolically, so the thing to do would be to examine the boss' actions.
cont. And judging by the fact he sounds like a broken record and moves about like an automaton I'd say that the commentary is that the boss is only putting on an act that's expected of him (the Fezzywig role of giving a Christmas party). The fact that he later starts "Keep the Home Fires Burning" which devolves into a non-resolution chord instead of its tonic chord also serves as a hint as "something's off key, as though he doesn't truly believe this sentiment.
I also think that the fact that he has to repeat 3 times "fellow workers" and they only aknowledge him when he secreams it shows that he doesn't have power by respect, only by fear, on his workers
He had his limbs blown off and is blind and deaf, people think he is brain dead. He is still able to think and feel but nobody knows it. This is a dream from the movie
What’s going on is the nurse wrote MERRY CHRISTMAS on his belly, he has dreams about his memories but also in the dreams, his friends or family talk to him like they know he’s gone, most of the time he knows something is very wrong with the people in them, like that “liberty and justice” guy.
Commenting on how the boss doesn't really give a damn, is my best guess. He's fulfilling an expected roll of playing the "Fezzywig" role without actually being one. In that light the party isn't so much about actually giving his workers time, as it is about him being concerned about how he looks and what is expected of him as "the boss", and when filling out that role, he only fills it out in the barest of minimum--repeating the minimum ad hoc instead of living the role. My best guess.
I feel like the point of this scene is that after joe has spent so long inside his own head not knowing what is reality and what is a dream that his memories are failing him so while he remembers these things, his brain is so scrambled and hes lost his mind so much that the memories are heavily distorted and extremely odd.

WTF Where's the corn? This should be called "corny Christmas".
Flippin' nuts!
I agree 💯 we live in a fake reality the is no such thing as democracy it's an illusion, a lie that has been inculcated into us since grade school
@@michaelmaya7742 ok drater
the ending of the film is ruthless!!! like gaaaa....
so good though
It's been over 50 years and this scene still haunts me
The ending is so haunting anyone else agree?
Yeah, I got so excited when I thought the nurse was gonna pass on but nope, it ends like him staying alive
Yes the final of the movie has a powerfull message. Men, do you know what is the christamass song that everybody is singing in the scene?
@arkdelacapablanca7114 i am a bit late to reply, but the song is named something like "Keep the homefires burning" if i recall correctly
Metallica Was Inspired In This Movie For Their Hit The One Video

Perfect ending scene for One, genius
Considering that fantasy stuff aside, this bakery halts the holiday due to times of war, it's their way of saying "Here we go again."
@@Shanethefilmmaker Have you ever read or watched this story or are you just another Metallica fan?

One of the most wonderfully crazy scenes I've ever seen.
I am the boss, you are the player, game over!
I am the boss, you're level one, you died

Out of all the scenes in this DMT trip from Hell, Ive always found this one the saddest and most haunting.
Are dmt trips really like this movie? Damn I’m missing out!
A pretty trippy film.
Keep the Home Fires burning, till you have to leave home to bring them back

Oh my god I was about to go crazy during this because he keeps repeating that
I'm Champagne, This is Christmas, Merry The boss.

awesome scene, please put up the circus one too where he imagines the people paying to see his face.

Ending of "One"
Darkness, imprisoning me
All that I see
Absolute Horror
I cannot live...
I cannot die...
Trapped in myself
Body my holding cell !
It's abbreviation for "continued", meaning I ran out of space in the first reply and broke it apart into two sections.
Wonder what the boss is drinking 🤔
Champagne
Reminds me of the original inspiration of rentons overdose scene in trainspotting
This, the poker scene, and when the nurse figures out how to communicate with him.
Is there some symbolism behind this?
This movie is such a mind fuck
Yes, fellow worker? (From another WOB in IU 650.
How can I find the song that sing at the end?

This was annoying as hell. If I was there, I would've just yelled, "Shut the Hell up!"
It reiterates how Joe is stuck in an endless loop of having only his thoughts and subconscious.
Goddamn what a weird fucking movie. Little bit unsettling. Not a fan
This movie captures reality better than most things in life. Ideologies and beliefs true to you are more important than you think.
