    11:15 the creature is called Domowik. Wodnik is a water spirit and lives near water like rivers, lakes and so on. "Dom" mean "house" :D and this build is amazing. I'm Polish, not Russian, but some things in the house remind me of my childhood, my grandparents and great-grandparents had them. I hope you'll do Polish house ^^

    The “underground barn” you’re talking about is called “погреб/pogreb” and I would say that it's more like a cold cellar where you store all the vegetables that you grow during the summer, like potatoes (картошка/kartóshka) for example, plus all the preserve jars (соленья-варенья/solyeniya-varyeniya) you prepare for the winter during and after the harvest season, like dill pickes (солёные огурцы/solyony’ye ogurtsy), jars of compote (компот/kompot) and jam jars (варенье/varen’ye). We have barns, yes, with much thicker walls so some animals could survive through the winter, but not the underground ones. (or I am just living in a whole different region where we don't have those, and that's why I never actually heard about them)

    • @nicolautorgal9298
      @nicolautorgal9298 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Idk about Russia, but where I live there used to be underground barns so that the heat of the animals would go up and keep the rest of the house warm (if that makes sense). Maybe some random parts of Russia also do that, and he found this really niche piece of info?

    "Красный угол" это место предназначенное для икон (изображение лик святых - люди молятся святым, просят защиту и тд), считалось что во главе красного угла сидит хозяин дома за столом и под ним располагали обеденный стол) Очень удивил момент, что ты сделал этот "красный угол") Ты молодец) Построенный тобою дом напомнил мне дом моей прабабушки, что жила в деревне)

  • @RannaIsis
    @RannaIsis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Idk about woman's and man's corner but there was a red corner, where people usually kept their icon. "Red" has nothing to do with Red Square or something like that, in the old times "red" meant beautiful, precious. Pretty girl would be called red, nothing to do with a color

    СПАСИБО! - It means "thank you" in Russian! And as a Russian, I can say that my grandmother could live in this house and cook borsch hehehe

  • @MsYourgranny
    @MsYourgranny 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Wow, it really reminds me my grandma's house. Samovar, icons in the corner, carpets on the walls, stove. She slept on the stove in winter, it's a very warm and cozy place to lay on. In the barn she had a wall of woods that she chipped herself. These izbas have toilet outdoor and people wash in banya. I live in a city center in a flat (~600.000 citizens) but there are still few izbas in my street, people living there still don't have running water. They take water from community standpipe.

    Vodnik sounds a bit questionable, I need to refresh this. But there is a domovoy - he lives in the house, sometimes in a stove, there is bannik - he lives in a banya, there is vodyanoy who lives in a bog or a well sometimes

    I have been subscribed to you for a long time, so I was very surprised to see a Russian izba (and a Russian greeting, PRIVET to you!), everything looks so familiar, I really appreciate that you did research and read a lot before starting this work. ❤️ And I really love the cartoon Anastasia, I advise everyone to watch it! I also want to add that the stairs at the “Russian stove” are needed, because people literally slept on the stove or slept on benches. So the house turned out to be even “luxury”, if we talk about THAT time 🤩😊

  • @borzenkam
    @borzenkam 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Sweeeeeet))) The only pronunciation flaw I heard is that it's not Izba, it's izbA (the last vowel should be stressed), but all the other words sounded great!
    The spirit of the house that lives behind the oven (the russian word is pEchka) is domovoy, he can also live in the basement or in the attic - any dark and tiny place where it would be hard to find.
    Samovar is gorgeous! It was used not only to contain hot water but to actually boil it.
    Thank you so much for this build, it's lovely to see my childhood homeland culture represented.

    I grew up in east Germany and loved russian fairy tale movies as a child ❤. And i always admired the houses and OMG! The Russian stove 😍, YES!!! 💓💓💓 People sleeping in top of it on a cozy fur. Always wanted to do that. My favorite Don Bluth movies are Mrs. Brisby and the secret of NIHM, All dogs go to heaven and of course A Land before Time. Bluth actually started as an animator with Disney and he did the character design for the Rescuers and it seems he really loved mice since he did three movies with mice main characters 🤣

    Wow I absolutely loved this video! It feels special to see a culture represented that feels more close to your own. ^^ (I'm Nordic so it's like "neighbouring" cultural area haha) You nailed it with the samovar! I think that's how Russians traditionally make their tea. 🍵 about the "Russian" stove, to me that's just a stove! :D I think variations of this type of stove exist in the Nordic countries or at least in Finland, Sweden and Norway but I'd love to hear what my fellow Nordics think. At least no one calls it "Russian" bc it's just.. a stove. :D We have one in my family's summer home and the stove was actually built in the 2000's following the traditional style. The big point about it is that its large mass reserves heat so it keeps the room/house warm even during the night as our winter temperatures can drop to around -20°C. Thanks for a great video Leo! ❄️💙

    • @arina_ascorbina
      @arina_ascorbina 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      funnily enough, it's called a "Russian stove" in Russia :D traditionally we had different kinds of stoves, another common one was a "Holland stove", and I think a "Swedish stove" is also a thing, though I never seen one in real life. Russian stove is a specific one that has a heated sleeping area, and is sometimes big enough for a human to fit inside (so it can be used as a sauna/banya, you could literally wash yourself inside it).

    • @dontwanagivit1860
      @dontwanagivit1860 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@arina_ascorbina haha that's very interesting! There are different words for different kinds of stoves in my native language too but they don't mention any countries and are usually just related to the purpose. But I'm sure both of our cultures have traditionally had stoves as very crucial elements of the home for cooking, heating and bathing (I mean sauna obviously ^^). Unfortunately I don't think there are too many of the really big ones left :/

    • @arina_ascorbina
      @arina_ascorbina 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dontwanagivit1860 yes, I think Russian and Nordic stoves and even houses can be quite similar. Especially in Nothern Russia (where I grew up) - not only Slavic people were living there, but Finno-Ugric too, and obviously a lot of influence from neighboring countries... My aunt's house still has a big Russian stove, I love it :)

    • @dontwanagivit1860
      @dontwanagivit1860 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@arina_ascorbina yeah unsurprisingly Eastern Finnish and Northern Russian culture seem quite similar, you can definitely see it in their architecture! and Carelian culture is super interesting! Looking from outside it seems to be kind of something between Russian and Finnish culture and the language itself is part of the Fenno-Ugrian language group. I feel bad for them though because both Finns and Russians have treated them so badly as cultural minorities and their language is very endangered because of this. :(

    This is so beautiful! I'm not sure if this is your kind of build, but have you considered making something like an Icelandic longhouse?
    Also a bit late to the party on this one, but I believe if you make a 1 tile basement you can add something like a bucket and raise it up so it appears on ground level, and then hide the barn inside the bucket. The game should register the bucket as being on a separate floor so the barn should be functional
    🤗

    If you don't want items to block anything on the ground floor outside, you can just raise them up from the basement. You don't need a basement room for that; you just have to turn on the grid, then you can place objects there. Last time I checked, those objects would also have outdoor lighting. However, I'm not sure about snow covering them.
    Other builders who shrank the animal sheds (I'm thinking SatiSim) used the Cottage Living wooden (debug?) bucket. If you find an item that could also fit in that place rotated, you can flip it on the side (so the footprint is at a 90° angle to the ground) and it can't interfere any more.
    Hope that helps!

    An interesting fact for non-Russian simmers! Previously, whole generations lived in such Russian cottages: father, mother, family of the first son with children, family of the second son with children. The cottage was divided into several parts by curtains or rags. The toilet and bath were outside, in a separate room, and the toilet was just a separate cabin! And on the hay, which the freezerbunny placed in the cowshed, they used to arrange dates and have woohoo)

    А где погреб, в котором живёт медведь? 🐻
    В любом русском доме должен жить медведь! Русские без медведей - не русские!

      Ахахах ох уж эти стереотипы , я в своей разу никогда не видела медведя, зато в какой нибудь Канаде они в городах по помойках лазят

    It looks cool, thank you for the Slavic build. It's very similar to the house I've lived in as a kid in the '90s. But there was no bathroom in the house,
    we had a banya (баня), it has another name for a sauna. And a toilet was in the outhouse like in the animated film Shrek. I hated this toilet, especially in the winter because it was really cold. My family has samovar, usually, my dad uses it to brew the tee at Christmas time. I also like that small handloom in the bedroom, cause great-grandma had a spindle (веретено), she spun yarn for many hours often. Oh gosh, wall carpets, the carpets everywhere, it made me laugh. It was a very popular decoration in its day.
    It reminds me of a time when my great-grandma tucked me into a bed with lush goose featherbed and two big pillows. I miss her.
    P.S. Excuse me for my English. Anyway, I make grammatical mistakes in Russian language too, lmao.

    Firstly, I too enjoyed Disney’s Anastasia but more drawn to the mystery of the real story of the princess. Secondly this build is extremely quaint and authentic to the style, you did fantastic once again in capturing the essence of this build in terms of atmosphere, through your choices in furniture and the stove/fireplace…it looks wonderful! Thirdly, vernacular houses are all over England and used local building materials around in that era. You need to check out Harmondsworth Barn in Greater London, purely made from timber as quarrying didn’t take off until late 16th century but you probably know all this and now I feel like I’m teaching you how to suck eggs hahahahaha! I am definitely no architect but I get excited when you talk about different styles. Thanks Leo
