Doobies 1.0 - stinging guitar licks, amazing percussion, nasty rhythm guitar, great vocals. And then they take you to church on this one. Great reaction.

"Jesus Is Just Alright", written by Arthur Reid Reynolds, was released by The Art Reynolds Singers in 1966. The Byrds covered it on their 1969 album Ballad of Easy Rider. The Doobie Brothers arrangement was heavily influenced by the Byrds cover. Incidentally, check out the Fairport Convention cover of the song "Ballad of Easy Rider" from 1969 when you can. Sandy Denny's voice is a special something else.

Hey Wilburn, how about some of The Who? They have had a long and storied career that is almost 55 years long. Their best work was in the early 70s with their two rock operas(Tommy and Quadrophonic), and IMO, the best rock album of all time, WHO'S NEXT. They were one of the original British Invasion groups. and were huge in the mid to late 60s with My Generation, Magic Bus, Substitute and many others. They were at the first Monterrey Pop Festival, Woodstock, and their Live At Leeds album was the best live album of the 60s. I would start with EVERYTHING off the WHO'S NEXT album.l

This has long been the best cover of this song, soulful and beautiful, and I still love it. However the 2014 version by Stryper on the No More hell To Pay album is even better, having an intense instrumental bridge you don't get here. I'd recommend to anyone that they do a side by side comparison. That being said both version are exceptional.
