How to Make a Handmade Pottery Teapot - Narrated Version

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 31 ก.ค. 2024
  • This weeks video shows how I make my teapots. It's a long one but shows quite thoroughly every step along the way. Teapots are such complicated objects to make so I really hope this video can break it down whilst also demonstrating in-depth my approach to the form.
Thanks for watching and if you're got any further questions please leave it down in the comments and I'll do my best to reply.

Mid-70s Parkrose OR, I had a ceramics teacher in high school, Mr. Anderson. Actually, it was ceramics, watercolors, oil paint, and lurking off and on over the day helping load and unload kilns. I learned more from him than any other teacher throughout high school. He became my standard for the definition of a true artist. From what I learned from him I could and did throw some beautiful pots, but I could not for the life of me throw another to match it. Mr. Anderson would throw sets of vases, plates, and large mixing bowls that when finished would stack like they were made in a mold. Beautiful sets that I am sure are still being used, loved, and cared for today. He either had a business on the side or every relative he had got new sets of plates and cookware every year. My mark of a true artist today is someone that can create something beautiful, which I could, and then duplicate it over and over... which I never could. He taught me this same lesson in watercolors too, I could get lucky at times and paint something beautiful but I couldn't ever see something clearly in my mind and make it appear on the paper as he did. He was like Hank Aaron calling his shot, teaching, telling the class what he was going to paint, and then creating exactly what he had described, over and over again... lots of relatives ( - sales). Oils just made me cry and hope the other classes I took, the side work I did for him, and mostly my dad's donation of about 400 lbs. of pigments would carry me through. Mr. Gadsby's set the bar even high than Mr. Anderson... thanks, so much. Beautiful work. Find a job you enjoy doing and you will never have to work a day in your life. I don't think Twain could throw a great pot over and over either. Everyone stay safe.

..thanks for another excellent video. While you were speaking about the water flow and smooth surfaces one thing came back to my mind .. The smooth surface is not the best surfaces for water flow. A tube with spiral shape will help the water flow faster even small bumps are better than smooth surface, as like small dents makes golf ball faster... maybe not noticeable in a tea pot though :)

WOW,,, IT WAS WONDERFUL,,, i realized, much too late that i had i to do it over again i would have used ceramics as my art form.... thank you again for your kind sharing,,,your design is beautiful and im sure very functional, something that painting can not really achieve. all the very best to you,,,rodney

Thanks for posting narrated & ASMR versions. Watching with sound off is not as enjoyable. I am familiar with Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response - certain songs, passages of music, or those goofy wire scalp massagers trigger it for me, but rarely other sounds. ASMR tagged videos are an easy shortcut to locating content without voice (usually) that still have ambient sound. Ever reach a saturation point of listening to people talk? LOL
Stress reduction without psychoactive substances or meds is difficult at times. Traditional focused meditation is also not an easy skill. Ambient sound plus interesting visual focus works. Grateful for the option to rewatch the narrated video later. I understand some do get the full-on ASMR experience from ambient sound and to them I say, *way to go* - those tingles are FUN! I'll keep coming back for my dose of calming, soothing, relaxing, peaceful, and chemical-free anxiety alleviation knowing your pleasant narration is optional. This is my long-winded way of calling you a healer. :)
