I love it when she ends with, "and may God Bless You". My mom does that, she was a minister before she married my father. She is now in a wheelchair with dementia but when she gets upset with me she reverts to Spanish. I let her talk and when she finishes I like at her and say, "you know I can't speak Spanish right"???? Then she gets even more mad and yells at me in Spanglish. To be honest since dad has already passed away from cancer I let her have her moments cuz once they go that's it, it's a piece of my heritage that will die with her. Like being the last of the Mohicans. Many Chicanos like myself can't speak Spanish because we are 10th generational Americans and after the days of segregation we all grew up with people that only spoke English. It's kind of sad really. I understand my husband's language of Arabic better than I do of Spanish. As I get older I keep trying to learn more and more but even the dialect in America has changed as well for Spanish speakers. My father grew up during World war 2 in California and no joke, til the day he died he could speak to people from Spain, Venezuela, Central America, he knew their dialects and slang words so well and was an excellent speller of English and Spanish. I am 37 yrs old by the way and mom is 71. So much has changed in their lifetime but I love your videos, brings back those memories of us being the only Hispanic family in our small town in Texas, and the crazy stuff my parents woul do because it was their culture.
If you want to know more about your language and culture, you won’t learn it while you live in the USA. You have to travel to any country from South America at some point in your life, getting in the ground zero of the culture is the best gift someone can have for learning more about the real Latino heritage root. Start watching videos in your tubes of how to write and read in Spanish. You still have time to learn more. Good luck!
