That many clothes would overwhelm me. I recently went through everything in my closet and donated what I was no longer wearing. I went through my coat closet and donated half my coats and sweaters to the homeless. I’m sure you need lots of clothes for your job

That black dress is stunning on you! You can dress it up or down; tall boots and a chunky sweater, a lace shawl or pashmina and black stilettos, denim jacket and a pair of Vans. Girl….get you some velvet hangers when you get your closet done, you’ll not regret it! I changed out all of our closets probably 20 years ago when they first came out, I still have them (probably 300+) and can count on one hand the ones that have broken. I bought Joy Mangano sets from HSN when she always had specials-all linen color.
That black dress was so elegant. For the closet edit, I like that idea where you hang it all with the hanger backwards then as you wear an item, hang it back up with the hanger the right way. Then at the end of the year you evaluate all the items with the hanger still backwards.
Great job decluttering. Have you consider switching to the velvet hangers like you used to take pictures? I did and they freed up a bunch of space in my closets

I say do what you want! I'm not big on societal conventions, so if you have fun younger dresses that you love, I'd keep some of them. Age can determine some things but it doesn't have to determine everything

I’m in my sixties, I get a lot of clothes from my daughter. She has so many closets in my house. I’m worried about trying to get a lake house because I won’t be able to afford one as big as my current home.
Lauren, you should get some Huggable Hangers from HSN. They will completely change your closet! The white bulky hangers take up way too much space. Trust me!!!!!

I understand what you mean and I also like classy and elegant style...but I don't know...I'm 36 and I'm not even thinking of my 40s yet. I will start thinking when I'm 40. The day before my 40th birthday I will still be saying I'm 30+. And I will never be age appropriate. Maybe bacause I don't have kids I feel super young being 36...I actually feel better and more energy than when I was 21! I just refuse being old and I will never be old mentally. I agree. Yes you may have outgrown some styles, but I believe one’s general taste and style does not change and to decide to dress more age appropriately makes no sense to me. What seems age appropriate to you may seem matronly to others. And matronly you are not. I understand wanting a fresh start but don’t go too far in the other direction. You are a beautiful woman and look great in anything but don’t get lost in the notion of changing because you’re turning 40. One always needs some “fun” in their wardrobe no matter what your age.
Lauren you don’t need to be concerned with age appropriate clothing! Your clothes are appropriate ! Don’t get rid of your skinny jeans. You still wear leggings so what’s the difference? I think you have too many clothes. Unfortunately I share a closet with my husband so declutterring happens often because there’s not enough room. Our rule is something goes out (donated) if we bring something new in. You accomplished so much as you always do.
Chuy is doing ok, he is hanging in there but he does have a dr apt next week to see what we do next. Praying he is going to be with us for a while longer.

Yes we have had the same wonderful person for 8 years that helps with the kids and around the house when we are at work.
