I just had my right kidney removed laparscopically due to 6.1 cm tumor. It was found by accident by an ultrasound because I was having some mild stomach issues not related to the kidney. The results were a stage 1 grade 1 RCC. Fortunately, my drs. Said that my prognosis looks pretty good. This whole thing has changed me as a person. I no longer take life for granted and thank the good lord I'm still here each day.

Hello, I was just diagnosed on Oct 17th 2021 of having kidney cancer on my left kidney. It was 12.3 cm in size. It had developed on the inside and eventually grew to cover the entire outside of my kidney over the course of a few years. I never knew I had this until it was almost too late. I just had my left kidney removed Dec 14th 2021 and I'm at home recovering as of today Dec 18th 2021. Thank you God first for giving me another chance at life. I also thank my Dr's at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. It was a very painful surgery, but at least I'm alive. My Dr said that he got it all and I pray that he did. I will have scans to check in the future. I was a very lucky girl to have this cancer found & removed. That was a scary situation to go through. My family & friends who helped me.

Recently had my right kidney removed due to a 6cm x 7cm cancerous tumor. Stage 1 grade 2. I am only 26. My oncologist reassured everything will be fine and ill live a long healthy life. He said its like I survived a devastating car accident where everyone died but me. A true miracle he said. My surgeon said it didnt spread to any fatty tissue, lymph nodes, organs or my bloodsteam. He said I caught the cancer at a perfect time and If I waited 2 more years then there would of been nothing they could of done to save my life. "in 2 years you wouldnt be here." words I will never forget. I use to wake up taking everyday for granted. Now everyday I wake up I'm literally happy to breathe.

I was just diagnosed with Kidney cancer. My right kidney and two ureters, yes I have two coming from my right kidney. It's transitional cell and I'm told I should be cancer free with no further treatment. But it's been terrifying at times. I'm a smoker, how un brilliant of me but, it's a bad habit I've got to lay down. My symptoms were a lot of pain, fever in January of this year. They assumed I past a stone. But 7-7-19 , after a little blood in my urine, next night I was passing clots, had trouble passing very red urine. This for four hours. I was too scared to admit I was in big trouble. But I went in and had a cystoscopy after 24 hours. God bless anyone else going through this. Truly!

I'm 3 1/2 weeks from having right kidney out. I had a 5.5 cm malignant tumor. Cancer free now but need recheck of my bladder in three months to be sure. I'm armed with patch and nicotine losengers. Will pick a night this, next week to just do it. Thirty staples and two weeks of a catheter helping dislike smoking. But with morphine in hospital then five days of Percocet I did fine. BUT, the euphoria from just 5mg every 5-6 hours to non definitely left me feeling depressed. I've taken Percocet before, even 10mg after a hysterectomy and I came right off of them okay from what I remember. But this time I was grateful for incision pain relief, but I got a better idea of why people get addicted. I could have got more but only wanted to keep the euphoric feeling. I think I used Tylenol maybe 2 days after Percocets. Everyday I'm better, so I don't want to discourage anyone. I can walk about a mile a day AND even can sleep on my right side since 3 week point. I had this laparoscopic and largest incision not even so noticeable, just right above pubic bone. Damn depression, and discouragement like cigarettes being our rewards or even best friends are BIG LIARS ! Don't give up, on hope in your life that is !

I still have to do a ct scan of my chest and my Dr wants to do a biopsy which I don't agree with because we already kno it's cancer. My question is did anyone have to do chemotherapy before there surgery or after? And should I be worried about this? Please any answers 🙏 would help.

    • @ClapsyPlapsy
      @ClapsyPlapsy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You've probably found out the answers to those questions since posting, so this is more for the sake of anyone else wondering the same thing:
My urologist explained that chemo before surgery is not required. My tumour was 9.5cm and I was originally told by a member of the general surgical team (at the hospital where I was originally scanned and diagnosed): "You'll probably have to do chemo to shrink it down before surgery." When I explained to the urologist that that was what I'd been told, he was not impressed. In fact, he said something like, "Those guys don't know what the hell they're talking about. Getting advice from them? You might as well have looked it up on Google." He reassured me that there would be no chemo before the surgery and that, despite the size of the tumour, he was still confident it could be removed via laparoscopic surgery (he was right).
My understanding is that chemo is necessary only if you experience a recurrence of the cancer and then only if it shows up in a way that could be helped with chemo. As long as you remain cancer-free after they remove the tumour, you won't have to worry about doing any chemo.
You're probably a good candidate for the Checkmate 914 clinical trial, so look into it, if you haven't already. It's a trial to test the effectiveness of immunotherapy drugs Nivolumab and Ipilimumab as adjuvant therapy (that is, therapy intended to reduce the risk of a recurrence of the cancer after you've had the tumour removed). The trial is sponsored by Bristol Myers-Squibb. These drugs have side effects that are mild- to non-existent for many of the people who take them, so it's well-worth doing.

I'm going to ask my surgeon at my appointment in two weeks why he has chosen to perform a full removal as opposed to a partial.I have also considered a biopsy but the nurse told me it's only 70% accurate she also she said 1 to 2 out of 10 people can have a benign tumor so feels a bit like a lottery any advice would be appreciated.

@@pbeccas How are you doing these days? My situation was very similar to yours. I went to hospital for an unrelated matter, had an ultrasound and they detected a 9.5cm tumour on my left kidney. I had a CT scan later the same day and, six weeks later (September 15th, 2021) had a radical nephrectomy to remove both the kidney and the tumour. I'll be doing my next CT scans at the 6- and 12-month marks, followed by yearly scans, I guess, for at least a decade. The pathological staging was pT3a because the tumour had invaded segmental branches of the renal vein ... although it hadn't spread beyond the kidney itself and hadn't invaded the sinus fat or peri-nephric fat. I'm trying to learn about what others have been through so that I can get a better understanding of my future prospects. If you're able to share any extra information, I'd be really appreciative. :)

@@MarliBeres Thanks for this message, M B! I really do appreciate it ... Stories like yours definitely have the effect of boosting my optimism. I read one study that showed that, for pT3a staging, the average time for a recurrence (after the original diagnosis) was 22 months, so being in good health (at 3.5 years since the op) means it's looking really good for you and that definitely makes me happy. :)
Since my previous message, I was fortunate enough to get accepted into a clinical trial: one that's testing a couple of monoclonal antibodies to see whether or not they're effective as an adjuvant therapy. Even though my cancer hadn't spread (as far as they could see), there was always that possibility of a recurrence. So, the hope is that the trial will prove these drugs can reduce that risk. I'm now two-thirds of the way through the trial and, so far, everything's looking good. The next CT scan will be in about 10 weeks. Fingers crossed!
Thanks again for the reassuring message!

My mom had kidney cancer in 2015, diagnosed with small cell carcinoma on left kidney that metastasized to her lungs. The little cough was first symptom. I noticed it two years prior. It was a little dry cough, nonproductive and annoying. They looked for months to see what was in her lungs. February 13, 2016 it was renal cell carcinoma stage four, that had spread to lungs. She then fell and broke her neck bones, later it went to her bowels and spine. I noticed her pretty white teeth were yellow it was a very hard time for my mother and the rest of the family. It was in one blessed day at the park when I met an old friend of mine Christine who her father was a survivor too I started telling her the story with tears running down my cheeks she told me not to worry immediately she called her Dad and ask him about how he went about his own case....He told her is what was one herbal and roots Pythotherapist which is DR.HARVEY how he totally cured him with his effective herbs so I believed in her requested for the contact information .So when I got home later I told my mom everything I convinced her to give it a try so we contacted DR.HARVEY
My mother explained everything to him so he told my mother to purchase his herbal products which my mom did and he delivered it to her .She gave my mom instructions on how to administer the remedy which my mom obeyed after consuming the products for 2/and half weeks my mother changed and gradually everything was going alright so the following month she went to carry out the tests and to my greatest shock and excitements she was totally cured and healed firstly i want to say a very big thank you to God for using DR.HARVEY to save my moms life I'm forever grateful sir.

Robert lee hope you’re appointment went well. I had cancer on my right kidney as well (2 years ago) still getting CT scans with no recurrence. My mass was about 10 cm large it was at T3 a stage which was a very aggressive type. With that said, I want to let you know your going to be ok if you stay positive. Good luck my friend!

My husband, age 65, is just starting his journey. He had a kidney stone, they found the mass. Further CT scan with contrast. Dr. called and the mass is too close to pancreas to do an ablation. We will know more after July 17. Google Urology Care Foundation. It's time like this when I really appreciate TH-cam. Educate yourself. Me, I've had two containers of Baskin Robbins pralines and cream ice cream and wine. Good luck and God bless!

What a story! you poor thing - much too young. Watch the protein and also the potassium in avocado and banana. Mine was discovered by chance and was removed on 31/8. I was up and about on days and recovered very very quickly. Mentally though is a whole different issue.

Actually, it's not all that rare, even at your age; unusual, but not rare. My first symptom was Hematuria (blood in urine); not rose-colored or pink, but the cherry Kool-Aid RED kind. Very alarming. Next symptom was a sharp pain in back of left kidney, which I thought was a Kidney Stone ~ although I'd never had one before. Went to hospital ER for CAT Scans, where they found a 10.3 cm sitting on top of my left Adrenal Gland (which sits on top of the Kidney). Two weeks later I had a Radical Nephrectomy, which is a fancy name for removal of the entire shebang; the grade 4 tumor, adrenal gland & kidney. That was in March of 2023, and I've been symptom-free ever since. Don't let it absorb you. There are over 18 million Cancer Survivors in the USA alone (know you're in the UK). It is what it is, and you can't control the future. Just live your life as you would have if nothing ever happened. I do wish you well!

Bad doctors for not immediately giving you a scan for blood in your urine. This happened to me in April, 2017 and my doctor told me not to worry, but sent me in for a scan anyway just as a precaution. I had a 9 cm tumor in my kidney. 2 month later I had my kidney removed. It was 2A and fully contained. If I had waited for another 5-6 months after the symptoms subsided, my urologist told me we would be having a totally different discussion.
