    The G1000 is amazing! Laminar Research has done a great job right out of the gate on this. It's super fun to use and I think I'll be using it every time I fly the 172. It's not very practical knowledge at this point but I still like it!

    Your video was good. I am just beginning to use the G-1000 myself after using the G-530 all the while. And I was speaking with you on the computer to lower altitude for 500 fpm would be nose up or nose down depending on .......... Ha, Ha. keep at it. Lots to learn on the 1000.

    You landed with the autopilot engaged, that is definitely not recommended for a GA aircraft. Autopilot dis-engage at minimums and then fly manually. Good Luck and have fun learning the sim thing.

And I flew the plan, which was exciting! But my approach and landing was practically illegal. :) So now looking to get my approach and landing down. This video helped a lot! Thanks!

    I'm giving this some thought. It's ingenious how you thought this out without using the G-1000 manual. The thought I am having is when the flight plan is saved it goes and creates a fms file. The fms flight plan is universal to any flight plan whether it was created in a G-530 or G-430. If you fly and use the G-530 with G-1000 flight plan you created, I would think the 530 way points would be the same. It just looks different on the graphical user interface. I know reading the manuals extensive pages is horrendous, but just a thought??? Thanks Man!

    Nice Landing, I see the X-plane ground contact is still a bit funky. Just this week bought my 1st 172 skyhawk with the G1000 from Carenado for FSX it has the Synthetic Vision which takes the G1000 to a whole new Level, fun Bird. Note there is no true auto-land with the g1000, but if you do the same thing with the airliners (PMDG777) they will Auto-land, brake and come to a full stop. so cool. (subbed) o7

      I find the Cessna is always a bit hard to control on touchdown, usually, esp. if you come in a bit hot. Gotta fight that stick to centerline, which is annoying. I fly the Phenom 100
      most of the time lately, and I never have issues like that with that plane. As long as I'm centered up over threshold, and I'm not coming in too fast, that plane just barrels down
      and you almost have to work harder to throw it off centered landing. I'd rather do the damned landing manually, for that reason. Although I hope to master ILS in that plane
      and I'm sure it's even better that way, again, as long as you have that landing speed nailed. Another thing is making absolutely sure your plane is totally and utterly LEVEL
      as you touch down. This sounds obvious, but that's where things go awry on sim. and in real life, you have to stabilize that plane before touching down or forget it.

Where it was actually 200 minimum? Where did you get the minimum altitude? I looked on the charts and I couldn't find that minimum

    • @Bill4LE
      @Bill4LE  ปีที่แล้ว

      the minimum of 200 is AGL so you want to bug what the MSL altitude is because that's what your altimeter is showing. The mins for the ILS at SNA is 255 so I just rounded up a touch

    Does anybody know what happens in bad weather with some good windage on an ILS approach like this? I mean, do you still always get a better landing
    under those conditions than doing it manually, or what? I mean in real life. I'm not a pilot but a veteran Xplane11 simmer by now. I mean since you're not
    flying the plane VFR manually the last 10 miles or so, how do you correct for wind and updrafts, etc.? Since all you're managing with the ILS engaged
    is speed and flaps.

    • @Bill4LE
      @Bill4LE  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The G1000 and many other avionics system will take the winds into account and compensate. It basically does whatever it can to keep itself on the "magenta" line.

      I see, that's what I figured. Wild! I'm going to attempt to lock onto the loc. at Aspen KASE tonight, wish me luck, I'll prob. need it. I already have the nav. radio set and heading bug set for 15 there. Whether I can lock on from 10 miles or more out, down the valley, we'll see. This is in the Phenom. Update: well, it didn't work, but I'm not sure the Phenom 100 I have
      is able to do procedures, which is annoying. I managed to do three ILS landings in a row, in XPlane11 tonight with the Cessna 172 G1000, 10 mile practice finals, and at KTEX Telluride,
      so now I finally know how to execute one! I was pretty chuffed. I think one was GPS RNAV and the rest were ILS. One thing that kind of annoys me is you never can be totally sure how far off from the localizer it will work, although if you're 5 miles or under, it won't work anyway, since you're too close to the localizer. @@Bill4LE

    • @thiscorrosion900
      @thiscorrosion900 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Now I'm at a total loss. I did a fast JFK to Logan Boston Intl. Garmin 1000 flight tonight in the old Cirrus Vision jet, and the whole flight went flawlessly, I armed the
      approach to ILS 4R about 35 miles out, the approach activated, and flawlessly brought me in on AP at 4000 ft. everything set ahead of time, radios, etc., and the CDI
      switched at the left turn to final approach fix, etc., all automatically, and then....the Garmin brought me right in to 4R LOC and then....no goddamned Glide Slope whatsoever,
      no matter what I did, I even hit the APR switch on the AP as a panic move, and it still didn't do GS. I had to go missed, go down back course 15 miles, 4000 ft.,
      then redo the approach again, and it did bring me in direct again, no troubles, but no GS acquired. If anybody knows what I'm doing wrong, please let me know on here.
      I'm getting highly frustrated. I did everything by the book! GS should have locked, and it didn't, but the LOC was dead on. The only good thing was the approach
      was so dead-on that I brought the plane down to a super gentle landing, I barely felt or heard the gear touch! So I guess I did a good LOC landing, but not full ILS.
      The Garmin 1000 keeps saying my Nav. data is out of date, and I'm not paying $100 to get a payware set, so....I don't know what's going on there.

    Thanks for your video. Taking time and thinking aloud what to do, etc which helped me, a novice to flight sims, to understand clearly how to land a plane with ILS approach and G1000.
    I was also stuck up for the vertical speed. I saw the nose up/down but didn't try it. I pushed forward my yoke a wee little bit and pressed VS button and that worked!!!

    • @Bill4LE
      @Bill4LE  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh nice! That works! Thanks for watching. Sometimes it really helps to think aloud and get feedback.

    • @thiscorrosion900
      @thiscorrosion900 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, you always want to hit the VS button, and then adjust the nose up/down in the Cessna to adjust the trim for how steep an ascent/descent. In the Phenom 100 I fly
      a lot, it's even more fun since you can adjust the rate of descent per km much more precisely, or execute a perfect flight level change at the locked-in current speed you want.
      In something like a 737, or Airbus, it's actually even easier, since you have the luxury of the autothrottle, and can execute the most precise VS adjustments all along the flight, at
      the precise IAS and VS speed you want. Anyway, once you lock onto the ILS LOC. and are being brought in, you shouldn't have to worry about the VS! Just your IAS and
      when to bring in your flaps. I also watched a real Phenom 300 team bring in the plane to Aspen KASE last night, they keep Yaw Damper ON all the way down during approach
      and landing, so if your plane offers that, keep it on, I wasn't sure if that was procedure but indeed it is. It helps stabilize your approach and landing without a doubt, ILS or not.
