Opening the Flower Stand

- Snapdragons and lots of them meant we needed to open the flower stand before Mother's Day. We had enough flowers to put together 25 bouquets for this opening day. The most we have ever sold in one day is 12 bouquets. Lets see if we can have a sell out for our opening day of this season.

I meant to tell you yesterday but things have been so hectic around here. Today is my wedding anniversary and, of course Mothers Day! I can’t believe I’m even saying this, but…I SOLD OUT. In just a few hours! I was afraid I wouldn’t sell any and they were all sound out in about 4 hours! I’m SO excited! Thank you for your words of encouragement!!!

Actually, you’re my hero of the day. You made this video, which is more than I can manage to do. Truthfully, I’m going out tomorrow to harvest all of the flowers for my FIRST EVER bouquet stand. I didn’t sleep last night and I’ve puked twice today. Oddly enough, I’m trying to retire from 33 years as a paramedic/nurse/firefighter. An incredibly dangerous, stressful, overwhelming career that I’ve had more than enough of. A few years ago I played around with a hobby flower farm and have increased more production and knowledge each year. THIS was supposed to be the year for me. Not only was I determined to have a beautiful and profitable flower farm, but I was going to start a TH-cam channel and film it all. Yep. After 3 failed attempts at a TH-cam video (because I just freeze and go completely blank🙄) Oh, and a bunch of snapdragons and sunflowers that are not cooperating, I’ve all but given up on this weeks bouquets. I won’t quit. I can’t quit. But I really want to right now. All of a sudden, chaos, bloody bodies and dying people just really doesn’t sound so stressful….Anyway, I’m not sure why I felt the need to share all that with you?
I guess I just wanted you to know that you rock! You just did something I’m obviously not cut out for. Im incredibly impressed and I will def be following you! Much success to you!!! 💚
You ARE cut out for this and you can do it! I have definitely felt that feeling many times .... I am not good enough. My flowers aren't good enough. My bouquets arent good enough. I don't know enough yet...etc! We all have to start somewhere. Just starting is a win! Guess what...I am a retired nurse, stay at home mom, now empty nester turned furniture painter that really wants to be a full time flower farmer. You told me all of this because I often feel like ...why in the world am I putting out this TH-cam video? There are so many more Flower Farmers out there doing much bigger things than me. But I just decided I would show my small victories and pray it helps someone! ❤️ Thank you for all your kind words and compliments! Please update me on how your first ever bouquet stand goes!! I want to hear about it!

I did the same thing. Started my own business/farm, & TH-cam & IG (that I wanted to eventually replace enough income to be able to not have to go back to work) all at once!
My 3rd year, last year, I wasnt bringing in enough income & had to go back to work full time, & I was also still working full time hours on my farm/business & channel, & I got super burnt out & ended up basically going into a depression & didn't go out to the farm or my garden for the last 3 months of the season! Bow I am back to part time, & trying to take it easy. I'm only posting shorts on my channel for now, as I have time, since I've been making videos for 3 years and I am STILL NOT MONETIZED, it has to be put on the back burner! 🤷♀️
@rebeccathomas9804 so basically what I am saying os just give yourself grace! & don't try to do everything at once... Especially if you have not been a gardener for a long time. I have been a gardener for fifteen years, So I couldn't imagine people that are trying to start a farm and cut flower business and trying to learn how to grow things all at the same time! I would probably try To give myself a couple years just to try to learn how to grow things. Some flowers Like more sun than others , some flowers need more fertilizer than others, Some get attacked by pests more than others, etc. That is a lot of stuff to learn about, In addition to you , trying to learn how to run a business, marketing, etc.?!?!

@ElderandOakFarm you do need to listen to your own advice 😊 Give yourself grace! We all need to talk to ourselves the way we would talk to others! We are so hard on ourselves! This flower farming thing is hard!! Crops can fail! Pests take over! It rains too much or too little … etc! Then we have to sell enough to make a profit! It can really burn you out … especially if you are working another full time job! I’m glad that you’re back in the garden but taking it a bit easier. Go slower and definitely give yourself grace! It’s hard! Take the small wins where you can & focus on those! Try to take some time to enjoy your garden again and let it bring you some joy again. If you have time, sit quietly in the garden for a little while and relax. I am trying to do this now because I am getting stressed out too. There are times when I know I need to slow it down and just enjoy the flowers - even for a few minutes. I also have another full time job and it can just get overwhelming. When I have fallen behind in planting or starting seeds … now instead of beating myself up I am TRYING to give myself grace and tell myself it will get done. It just may be delayed but it will be fine! You got this! We got this!

Thank you for your kind compliments! I try to be efficient in making bouquets but I also want them to look good. I know I spend a little more time on them then I am "supposed" to (from a profitability standpoint. The more I do it the quicker I get. My skills have improved with time so I think the time spent is worthwhile 😊

Thank you for your sweet compliments on my bouquets! I grow a variety of snapdragons. The orange ones are mostly from The Gardeners Workshop- TGW Sunset Dragons mix, Madame Butterfly Mix, TGW White Dragon Mix...These were all my best germinators and producers (the ones that look so full). I also had a few Opus II Early Bronze, Chantilly Salmon. Next year I want to try a later succession of Potomac to see if I can get those to bloom a little later into the season.
Has your husband testified before Congress? 😂😂. Your farm, bouquets and animals are amazing.
