My deepest thanks to those who put this together. I have deep roots in Pulaski. Born Pulaski Hospital 1936, son of Alton Crowell (Pulaski, 1904) and Beveridge Roberts Crowell (Bristol). My paternal grandfather was an engineer for the N&W, his wife the last postmistress of Martin's Tank, which became Pulaski in 1907. My mother's parents (Harry and Teddie Roberts) lived for years in the Maple Shade Inn, where the entertainment on Sunday afternoons was to sit on the porch and watch the trains come by. I appreciate Mr. Penn's acknowegement of Virginia Thomas, librarian, and her son, Tommy (later Judge Thomas, who was also in my Boy Scout Troop. I am glad to see Calfee Park in operation. When the Pulaski Counts played there in the Appalachian League, the centerfield fence was 550 feet, probably the deepest anywhere. The lights were around 450 feet, creating interesting opportunities for clever centerfielders. My best wishes to those trying to grow businesses in the town. Alton (Tony) Crowell, Jr. , Irvine, California
I was born there in 1958. My first name is after doctor who delivered me...Dr James Kelly...my parents thought I was going to be a boy and had no girls name picked out for me so they named me Kelly. Beautiful area.
I'm from Pulaski, born and raised. While some people don't like it, I love the history of this little town. Like George Penn said "We are the gem city of the south"!
I am so happy that my first stop was in Pulaski. We lived there for five months, while looking for property. Everyone was friendly. Beautiful scenery and fun festivals.
I was just in Wytheville last night. I’m looking to move to a place where my heart, hope, dreams, and life, belongs. My grandparents just passed and they moved me from Appalachia place kny
Don't believe the hype. While I met some of the most genuine people I've ever met in Pulaski, the culture, racially, was still stuck in the 1920's. Played minor league baseball there in the early 80's.
NYC, Washington DC, San Francisco and LA are all stuck in the 1860’s then, because they’re all desperately trying to reintroduce racial division. God bless you though. I hope you found Jesus!
