Glad for you! It's always nice to follow your upgrades you have the excitement of xmas in every episode 😊 I have much respect that side of MTB it's part of the fun I spent winters as a teen pimpin my bike for incremental gains, now it's just me trying to keep things going with two kids and mtb + dirtbikes for everyone 😅
I upgraded a couple of years ago. I thought a lot of the hype was marketing and fashions reviews. That all ended on my first rip on a trail I am very familiar with. I won’t go into the details bc most of you have already did your own research. I will put in a plug for Spoke X. I went with their enduro set with I9 Hydra hubs (not the lightest or the heaviest) 1350 was well worth the cost. I’ve put lots of miles and jumps on this wheel set and still trued.
I definitely agree that now is the time to upgrade to carbon wheels. Trying to decide if I upgrade the Gravel bike or the MTB. Your time would have been much faster if you lined up the valve stem with the logo though, lol. love watching your videos, keep em coming.
Your impressions are pretty similar to mine when I made the switch from aluminum to carbon rims. I probably wouldn't have bothered with such an expensive upgrade, but after a year of moderate/aggressive riding I had actually caused several micro-hairline cracks in my aluminum rims! I was surprised because I'm really not all that much of a gonzo-gnar-jumpline rider. Anyway, after installing the carbon rims I noticed right away the lighter, snappier, stiffer feel of the bike. Plus they do seem pretty bombproof though I realize they certainly are not, lol! After well over a year of heavy use, they are sadly dinged up a bit but that comes with the territory. They still feel as good as the first day they were installed. Hope I get MANY more years out of them!
Not all carbon rims are built equally, my set of ibis was heavier than many aluminum sets. The common theme is that they all mostly feel very rigid, even harsh in the case of Reynolds and 9velo mt. Not sure what I prefer... Yet
I'm bombing and destroying a lot of wheels. I used to seek the strongest now it's about getting the best deals. What's a lifetime warranty without a 24h turnaround. Not much to me ... 😅
i could imagine being beat to death with a carbon hardtail on carbon wheels.. but i'd rather not. my aggressive geo aluminum HT has aluminum rims and it's super fun to rip down dark blues and blacks. anyway, i have carbon wheelsets on my DC, enduro, and freeride rigs. all carbon frames. 2 of which have coil shocks. here's a little experiment you can perform in just a few moments.. take an old, fiberglass or aluminum fishing rod, use it for a couple minutes at your favorite hole, then switch to a full boron/carbon rod and report back.

Ha, yeah I've got two boys that eat everything in sight and are always busy with sports so finding time and money is always a good thing.

You're right but I went logo to logo. Next time!

Glad to hear it! I'm not bombing anything either but yeah, it's noticeable for sure.

Nice job
Yes carbon is nice but I don’t think it’s that big a deal having a carbon wheel set.
You can upgrade 370 hubs to any of the DT ratchet systems for a reasonable price, and you don't have to re-lace the wheel.
This is true and I put some thought into it but in the end just went for the new wheels. Maybe if I use them on a different bike I'll give it a try.

@@mikestivers8302 Ha, yeah hardtail with carbon might shake your teeth out.
I bet that intense also has a haughty lisp during light braking...
montain biking and road biking is all fashion statement look at me buzz
Weight difference of the wheels?
400g
Carbon wheels are not the best thing to upgrade on your bike
Where would you spend the money?
