    Really nice shots, Jeff! I saw this film once and now I am going through it in a play/pause mode in order to take a couple of seconds longer to watch the images I like most. Street photography certainly is also a numbers game and you seem to have a really impressive keeper rate. I wonder how people would react to a best-10-images-slideshow, with each image showing for something like 10 seconds. Maybe just an old-bloke wish, since cuts in movies in the olden days weren't so fast. But this photography thing is also about strict curation. If you come up with a really good image per day, this would be an outlandish success - compared to the old masters. But maybe, letting the audience in on the process and showing them the very best and some quite good images inbetween is what most people prefer these days.

      Thanks Frank. I personally think something like a zine (coming soon) is a better vehicle for those best images. TH-cam is more about putting something together to entertain.

    Great photos, love the B&W ,really brings more emotion to the subject, in today's world I feel that people place to much emphasis on gear and not enough on subjects, lighting and composition, what I consider the most important part of photography. Beautiful work.

    Hello Jeff,
    More great photographs, thank you. How long did you spend on the streets of Oxford and what sort of planning do you do in advance before when going to a new location. Maybe this could be a topic for a future video. Thanks again.
    Take care.

      Thanks Paul. Four days shooting but one of those days we were hosting a workshop. We don’t do any planning other than working out how we are going to get in and out of the place.

    The one thing about photography in general is to know when to go wide and when to get tight, that applies to landscapes, seascapes ,wildlife architecture, events or street photography. That is why I have a wide variety of glass from fisheye zooms to telephoto and a host of primes.

    • @WalkLikeAlice
      @WalkLikeAlice  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This depends on your style and how you want to interpret the world. If you are commercially shooting events, I would agree with you because you have to get the shots you are being paid for. Outside of this, I believe that learning to use one or two lenses helps with indecision and reaction. But that’s just my opinion.

      @@WalkLikeAlice I am *nowhere near* your league, but this response resonated with me. Sometimes I like to carry the X100V because I have no equipment decision to make --- compose and make the shot. I might switch film simulations and move around to change perspective. But there's only that 23mm lens to work with. That can be freeing.

  • @jamesmlodynia8757

    People say that digital photography is sterile, it's not organic enough, I don't think it's what they are using camera wise that is the problem, I think people with digital cameras forget that they control the camera and not the other way around, in the time that I photographed events, it pushed me to be more creative, look for special moments and end be able to capture them before they disappeared. Many of my best photos were both a combination of planned shots and knowing where to position yourself to get the wall hanger and some of the most memorable photos I was able to convert into B&W I truly believe that a B&W photo of a special moment is far more powerful than color, wedding and street photography lend themselves well to B&W photography.

    • @WalkLikeAlice
      @WalkLikeAlice  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it comes down to how the photographer sees the world. Some see it in colour and others in b+w. Some in both but look for different ways of interpreting it. I don’t think one medium is better than the other, just different.

    Another great video! Love the format… Do you shoot from the hip or do you always compose from the viewfinder? Wondering due to the low angle and the intimacy/short distance and response time of some of the photos…

    • @WalkLikeAlice
      @WalkLikeAlice  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I do both depending on how much time I have between seeing the shot and reacting to it. In this video there’s some footage of me shooting a guy in a hat. The first shot was at my eye and as I walked past him, I saw a better shot and just instinctively shot it without looking. I’m comfortable doing both ways.

    I have struggled to properly engage with street photography, largely because a lot of it has the smell of the ‘Emperors New Clothes’ … just lacking in any original thought … more marketing than originality and innovative observation. But, I enjoyed this video; well observed moments without archetypes. Maybe Street Photography is not yet dead 😊

    • @aquilifergroup
      @aquilifergroup ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Everything is an imitation of something else. Go do it or don’t do it. The fact that street photography is derivative of others is not really an excuse. If you want to do it, go. Grab your camera and do it. Stop pontificating

    • @WalkLikeAlice
      @WalkLikeAlice  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you. I think the same can be said for any genre of photography. Not just street. We live in a world of fads and trends mainly driven by social media. Photography isn’t immune to this. For both myself and Sarah, we do what we like to do and if people like it, great. If they don’t, then so be it. We try and be ourselves when shooting and enjoy what we do. Which is the most important thing.
