Hey Sebastian - My wife and I did Athens from a Celebrity cruise ship this past September, and your videos were INDISPENSABLE for our visit - so thank you so much! We tried to get a tour with you personally, but you were booked up so far in advance, there was sadly nothing available. Just for reference to any of your followers here, our ship was in port from 8AM to 8PM, and here is what we ended up doing: Like some others here have mentioned, we grabbed the X80 bus right off the ship. Fortunately, we only had to wait about 10mins. We took it to the Acropolis stop and got off there. We were quite early, so we took your advice from other videos, and hiked up to Areopagus hill. SO glad we found your recommendation for that in another video. Such a great view, and we never even would have known it was there. We then went on a guided tour of the Acropolis in a large group tour. Would not do this again - would just do it on our own. After that we walked to the Acropolis museum and did a self guided audio tour. It was advertised as taking 90mins....but that is just not the case. The place is huge and we felt it easily would've taken all day to see it all properly. It was worth seeing, but we had to leave WAY before we were finished to keep on schedule. From there, we took the train to Syntagma square to try and catch the changing of the guard, but missed the start of it by about 1 minute....and it was SO crowded, we just kept on going and walked to our final destination, which was Monastiraki Square, so we could eat lunch at "A for Athens" as you had recommended. This was was the best part of the trip next to Areopagus. Had a great lunch sitting towards the right side of the bar with an unbelievable view of the Acropolis. The bartender was great, and helped us try a bunch of different traditional appetizers. To get back to the ship, we took the train to Piraeus Station, crossed the bridge and walked down to Karaiskaki Square, and caught a bus (can't remember which one - we asked some locals and they told us the number) which dropped us off at Cruise port terminal A. We were docked at terminal B - so the farthest one, but it was still better than walking from Piraeus station. We go SO many great photos from these locations that I wish I could show you, but again - thank you SO much for all your info online. We have sent several people to check out your site and channel.
Very happy to hear you had an awesome time in Greece ! Big hugs !
Thank you so much for explaining the distance between the ferries! I’ll budget for a cab! 🙌
You forgot to mention the X80 bus line, which is an express bus line designed for tourists, it starts near the Cruise terminal and it goes directly to the city center stopping only at touristic locations like near the Acropolis Museum and Syntagma Square. In order to get on the bus you have to buy the "Daily Ticket" which costs 4.1€ and its valid for 24hrs of unlimited transport (its also valid for the metro, buses, tram and every other mode of public transport) or the "3-Day Tourist Ticket" which costs 20€ and its valid for 72hrs and also includes a roundtrip to the Airport on top of all the other things mentioned above.
I'm not a big fan of the X80 bus. There's only 1 every 30 minutes and it takes much longer to reach the city center than a taxi. But sure, if you're on a budget, the X80 is a valid option.
I am going from Acropolis to the cruise port next month. Can I buy the "daily ticket" directly on the bus? or where can I buy the ticket?
@@stephencheung9514 Tickets are never sold on the bus. You need to buy it inside a metro station, or at one of these tiny ticket kiosks, like this one on Syntagma square for instance : maps.app.goo.gl/Mmjkepx2fGwjAPWa8
@@GreeceExplained Thank you for your reply.
We plan to use X80 bus to Acropolis from cruise port. Where is the ticket booth located in the cruise terminal area? Thanks in advance for your answers.
Thanks again mate
Perfect.VERY HELPFUL.🎉🎉🎉
Thank you
Thank You great information, Leaving from Athens, on the 29th of June for a cruise
Hope you enjoyed
If coming on a cruise - Book the tours Sebastian talks about.
What about the Hop On Hop Off buses? Are there any that stop at cruise port?
Yes there are, but not frequently.
Is there anything to see in Piraeus? I am very interested in seeing the reconstructed trireme Olympias but it now seems to be closed to visitors. Our October 2025 cruise ends in Piraeus so we will end up spending about 3 more days in Athens.
Not really ... Piraeus has some great restaurants and bars by the sea, it's a great place to live, but as a tourist there's not much to do.
@@GreeceExplained - Thanks!
Unfortunately, there is no shuttle for cruises.Ridiculous with disorganized for tourists but beautiful islands make up for this hassle.
How much would a taxi cost from the airport to the city centre, please?
I explain everything in this vid : th-cam.com/video/YpOv3_6uEX0/w-d-xo.html
Which restaurant in Athens has music and plate breaking..thankyou
Plate smashing, I dont believe that exists in Athens. Only at Naoussa restaurant in Santorini.
Music : Klimataria Tavern & O Geros tou Moria
I heard that there are buses 843/859/831 that can take you from the Piraeus metro station to the cruise ports. Is that true or are they still operating?
Yes there are a few buses in that area, but honestly I didnt even want to mention them in the video because they're super slow, often late, and its not always clear where you have to wait for them. But yes, if you're on a budget, you can try the bus adventure :D
@@GreeceExplained Thank you very much. Your videos are the best among all other videos about Greece I could find online.
Do you think is doable to do Athens and Corinth on a cruise visit? We will be there 12 hours. Thanks
Day trips to Corinth leave around 7-8am so I think it'll be very tight for you.
This is the one I would recommend if you decide to do it. It lasts 5h.
