In this rare recording from March of 1996, Don Rickles is guest-host with Regis Philbin, for his show: 'Live With Regis And Kathie Lee.' Don discusses among other things, his role with Robert DeNiro in Casino & his usual rants/insults. Guests include the stars/celebrities, Joan Collins, Jim Belushi, and Martin Lawrence.
Live with Regis and Kathie Lee (1988-2000)
Entertainment Weekly described Regis Philbin and Kathie Lee Gifford as "an agreeable mismatch" and their famous banter as "playful, edgy, and amusing." Gifford's positivity throughout (personal) public scandals...resonated with the female demographic of the show, but ultimately made her a media target prompting her emotional departure on July 28, 2000.
Regis Philbin (b.1931) is an American media personality, actor, and singer, known for hosting talk and game shows since the 1960s. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, he served in the Navy and got his television start serving as a page for The Tonight Show in the 1950s. Philbin gained his first network TV exposure in 1967 as Joey Bishop's sidekick on The Joey Bishop Show. One of the "the hardest working man in show business", Philbin holds the Guinness World Record for the most time spent in front of a television camera. His trademarks include his excited manner, his New York accent, his wit, and his irreverent ad-libs. Philbin is most widely known as the host of the New York City-based nationally syndicated talk show Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee starting in 1988, which became Live! with Regis and Kelly starting in 2001, and continued on with former football player Michael Strahan after Philbin's departure in 2011.
For many years, people have asked me, "What's Regis' talent?" For many years, I've answered, "He believes it's singing." Seriously, though, Regis is terrific. We've been friends for nearly fifty years. The man can talk. He can sing. He can tell a joke. Mostly, though, he screams. In the old days, we'd walk down Hollywood Boulevard and Regis would scream, "I've got Rickles here! Say hello to Rickles!" Even today Regis still screams. When it comes to promoting Rickles, he's unrelenting. Regis has never been shy in creating fans. He'd interrupt robbers during a bank holdup to ask, "Hey guys, do you ever catch me on television?" I'm currently listening to one of Rickles' vinyl record albums, Rickles Speaks from 1969. I may only be 22 but man all my friends are aged 70 and up and they steered me in the right direction for the good stuff!

I never knew Don Rickles co-hosted an episode of "Live" with Regis. This is an absolute treat because today I have been watching videos of Regis since his terrible passing yesterday. It has helped and made me laugh everytime. We all need a dose or two of laughter to briefly forget about this crazy year and this video proves it.

As a longtime great fan of Regis & knew he had a life long bromance with Rickles, he really got Rickles sometimes salty humor of which I enjoy watching Regis giggle like a school girl at each joke. All my close family texted or called me when he passed because they knew I just loved this great, kind man. I will miss him & so glad there are so many videos like these to keep us laughing.

I love this.. so sad they are not with us now. Don Rickles a very nice man. When Houston, Texas had only had Regis and KathieLee for the first syndicated season 1988-89. It got cancelled due to the popularity of Sally Jesse Raphael. Mom wrote a letter to Regis saying how sad she was.. I think she wrote our tv station too. REGIS wrote her back and was so nice. Of course when Kathie got pregnant with Cody the popularity of the show was even more, and Houston got them back in the summer of 1990. (at midnight no less), then very soon normal in the morning where it still is to this day. My mother passed away a year and a half ago.. Regis was her favorite person.

I didn't think Martin Lawrence and Don Rickles would mesh so well. I think it was better that Don co-hosted that day. Two comedians just vibing with one another.
