I installed a 1 ton 12000 apu mini split in my truck. It works beautifully and very comfortable in the cabin. I bought a mini split braket from amazon for about $60. I installed the inside unit on the back above top bunk. I was skeptical at first thinking I might need to install it in the front but the thing is so efficient it cools me into my blankets. My split cost me $500, another $500 for the generator and about $300 installed. I installed it no to save on fuel, even though I am saving a lot. I installed it to no idle my truck to extend it's life before an inframe is needed. I been having no breakdown at all for the past 8 months. I used to have breakdown just about every month when having my truck mostly on all the time. This is definitely a great and cheaper alternative that will not breakdown. Mini splits are made to last and apu are made to break down. My truck now only runs when is rolling no more idle for me.
I don't idle even without APU or mini split but I run in cooler areas. But we're installing a mini split now just in case and for better comfort. Good to know that the truck will last longer!

You talked about fuel lines. Is that a deisal generator? If it is where did you get it? Thought it said craftsman on . I had the same idea. I just got a champion 4500 with remote start but it runs on gas.
OTRookie, how is the air conditioner doing? Can you provide an update now that it’s been a few months on the road? Have you had any problems with your refrigerant lines cracking due to the harmonics of the road? There was another TH-camr here that did the same thing but he used flexible lines all the way through. Have you had an opportunity to use it in 100+ degree weather? I’m thinking of installing a mini split myself, but I primarily run the south western states and have to deal with that 100+ degree weather during the summer and Is my main concern.
How did you connect electrical wires to generator? Im planning to buy mr cool diy, but it needs to be connected to a box, how do i put a plug to conect to generator directly?
Great job on the install it looks alot better than some I've seen. I would only have two concerns myself. 1. I've found that equipment NOT designed for trucks doesn't seem to last, dorm room refrigerator lasted about 3 months from the bouncing. 2. Is the hassle of filling the Gasoline tank.
How's the unit holding up so far? Also just wanna know if you used the lineset that came with your unit and just connect the flexible lines on the inside?
Will the generator last in the harsh winter? I got a predator 2000. I had a Portable AC strapped to my passenger seat. Winter is coming and I know I can run a Sunbeam Heater in here but I'm worried about turning off the engine and it being too cold to start or dead batteries. Suggestions?? I was thinking about a wobasto heater but I can't find anyone to install it and I'm not doing it myself
You’ll kill the generator with daily cold starts and takes forever to warm up, mini split isn’t meant to heat on harsh conditions like under 20 degrees. Webasto is the only way, install it yourself there’s videos on it

is it quieter than motor running, and are your trucking brothers as sympathetic ?? stay safe, enjoy trucking, Peace
Yea it’s way quieter and way more comfortable
You talked about fuel lines. Is that a deisal generator? If it is where did you get it? Thought it said craftsman on . I had the same idea. I just got a champion 4500 with remote start but it runs on gas.
It’s gasoline I got an auxiliary tank
OTRookie, how is the air conditioner doing? Can you provide an update now that it’s been a few months on the road? Have you had any problems with your refrigerant lines cracking due to the harmonics of the road? There was another TH-camr here that did the same thing but he used flexible lines all the way through. Have you had an opportunity to use it in 100+ degree weather? I’m thinking of installing a mini split myself, but I primarily run the south western states and have to deal with that 100+ degree weather during the summer and Is my main concern.
I’ve used it in super hot conditions and it’s been great. No issues whatsoever so far
@@otrookie can you send me the link for split system and generator thanks
How did you connect electrical wires to generator? Im planning to buy mr cool diy, but it needs to be connected to a box, how do i put a plug to conect to generator directly?
Wire same way you’d do at your house. Instead of going into outlet goes into generator. Just wire up to extension cord
I run a mini fridge/freezer from Walmart. They have gotten 4 years out of them. Run it off a 3000 watt pure sine wave inverter.
Mine 2 years and 2000 total cost so far so good
I'm getting my mini split soon. I like your outside mount. Wonder if your "hookup" can build another one
@OT Rookie what kinda spam shit is this?
Good job 👍
Who needs a ripoff apu when you can do it all for less. Mines a 12000 btu and when it hits over 115 in AZ , its 60 in my truck. 🥶
what a great idea
Why. Not mount the interior unit on the back wall to eliminate all the interior hoses and lines?
Hello, how did you wire the electrical coming from the outside unit to the genorator?
extension cord only.
You got that right
Excellent 👍
Does that unit come with a male plug in or did you have to rig something up
Where did you get the rack for the outside unit?
How's the unit holding up so far? Also just wanna know if you used the lineset that came with your unit and just connect the flexible lines on the inside?
How has the unit held up with all the vibrations from driving?
So far so good. Year three
Will the generator last in the harsh winter? I got a predator 2000. I had a Portable AC strapped to my passenger seat. Winter is coming and I know I can run a Sunbeam Heater in here but I'm worried about turning off the engine and it being too cold to start or dead batteries. Suggestions??
I was thinking about a wobasto heater but I can't find anyone to install it and I'm not doing it myself
You’ll kill the generator with daily cold starts and takes forever to warm up, mini split isn’t meant to heat on harsh conditions like under 20 degrees. Webasto is the only way, install it yourself there’s videos on it
I'm trying to do this but only issue is how do I know what's behind my sleeper and if it's sturdy enough to hold the brackets for the outside unit?
It’s sturdy enough to support a 300 pound guy on the top bunk so must be pretty strong
Helllo
Any updates after using it for a while
How’s it holding up ?
Still good
good healthy discussions on the real* concerns in trucking, and it usually surrounds $$money, most things cost...especially increased stress with the high unemployment an bankruptcy numbers. As it has been said, know your worth, know your local, and distant "lanes" of business; ie. what you and your truck can provide in service for others; when ; where. a know, chimpanzees only cost banannas, diapers, and attention; train one of those to drive the 2nd shift?? while your snoozing??😁🖐
Hi!You did a great job!I decided to do same on my truck, bought a/c from Amazon, but still can find a frame for the condenser.Could you tell who did that holding frame to you? Thanks!
I had a local guy build me one. If I could go back I’d get it made from 90degree elbow aluminum like 2x2 1/8 instead of this way
I like this aluminum frame,I’m located in GA,could you give me phone number or location to the guy who made this frame to you? Thanks!

Please ,I need a picture of the rack.
I like your rack very much and I want to replicate it.Thank you in advance!
@@valentinkilidzhiyski2224 I mean just show him video of my truck he’ll know what he needs to build
simple and clean! Also gives you more cooking options?
Yes for sure but I also just installed a 3k watt inverter
How well does it heat up the cab and keep it warm in 0 degree weather?
Not good for heating
Good video!!
How did you wire it? Can it plug into a standard 120v plug?
Also want to know
Why not mount it on the ba k wall? That's how I mounted mine.
I like to be able to use my top bunk to fold up and down if I need to use as storage.
very good set up were you get the flex tubin and size ??
Amazon search rectorseal
Love your idea, if I buy the pioneer ac…do you know where I can have it installed professionally? Am in Ohio
No idea I’d contact an ac place but doubt they’ll install on semi truck
I’m sure if you drive to truck stop in Laredo or Houston tx you’ll find someone to do it lol
At the end of your video it looked as if a guy was walking in the background with a beer in his hand but it was just kinda weird how he walked back there and just turned around looking at you
What are the Amps on the ac unit and how much amps does your generator produce?
700/900watt generator 2200
Hey guys. Looking to do the same install on my truck. The generator that I was looking at is the Predator 2000 from Harbor Freight. Can anyone tell me what I need for starting watts and running watts. I'm hoping the 2000 watt Predator will do the job. Thanks
What is the size of your toolbox? ? I also want to buy one of the same
How did you wire the power to your generator?
Direct to outside unit just TH-cam how people set up their house unit on 110v
What cord are are you using to power the condenser? Pls respond
Where tool box was purchased?
eBay
I got a 01 132 & I wanna do this too. What size side box did you get & how did you mount the box to the truck yourself?
