Tom is one the most knowledgeable coaches I’ve come across and I’ve had the privilege of learning from a lot of top coaches - focus on the information he is giving and his coaching points.
I really enjoy Tom's and Naomi's coaching videos like this. They are both excellent at explaining things in a very straight forward way and embellishing into the different nuances of lifts. Excellent work!
I was looking for what variance in technique would define the different between a these rows demonstrated, and they have described and shown in perfect detail what I was wondering about! Clear, concise, professional, and interesting, as opposed to the more bland how-to's I watched previous to this one. Thank you! 😁
Superb instruction - I have been far too “loose” and utilizing the heavier movement exclusively; my coach has been programming weights that seemed far too light until I watched your video. Well done
I've been doing these for a while. He makes some good points I'll be implementing next time I do them. I appreciate the thorough explanation, thank you.
The most important things to do when rowing is engage your upper back and leg drive. Doing this will ease pressure off of your elbows and prevent tennis elbow.
Wow! Crazy amount of information! I’m going to have to apply these different variations. I definitely didn’t really know what I was doing: a sumo stance for the row 😂. Thank you!
Wow, thanks very much!! So many great variations. However I do apologise in advance because I'm going to bastardise them all to my bodybuilding parameters, lol. Thanks again and I really enjoy your tutorials!
Due to my anatomy I tend to do these from 12" blocks, but it feels brilliant that way. I can take the slack out of the bar like I do with a strict deadlift and row straight up and down, no bobbing at all. More of a strict form, dead stop BOR really I suppose?
What about rep ranges on that deadlift row? Stick to bodybuilding or can go heavy as well? Something in me just wants to take em for doubles. And fucking love the piercings!
So for a standard pendlay row are you aiming for the lower rib cage as demonstrated or to where the bar touches the chest in a bench press? Those are two very different spots for me.
Where the bar touches exactly will depend on your leverages and also the grip with you choose to use. If you want it to hit the same point as when you bench then simply adjust the grip width of your pendlay row until it does (wider brings it higher towards sternum, narrower lower down your torso). Generally speaking lower ribs is a good ballpark target as everyone get the full ROM (get it all the way to their torso, which you cant always do with a wide grip) and hit the entire upper back reasonably well
Pendlay, whom the movement is named after, just do it like a barbell row but from the floor each rep with strict form and back almost parallel to the ground So as for where you pull to, just do what feels best, I don't think about it ever and I've reached ~240# for 5 rep sets.
Due to the upper arm angle and the line of pull they are a more upper back dominant row. Yes they do recruit the lats but I wouldn't class them as a "Lat" exercise as such. However the cheated pendlay row can be a better lat exercise if you pull the bar back towards the hip (as you would with a traditional bent over row) rather than up to the rib cage. This along with a narrower grip would get you more lat recruitment

What a bunch of insecure people in these comments. Omg he's got piercings. I think it's because the guy is bigger than anyone in the comments and still has piercings.
People commenting on his piercings... You do realize people say the same thing about your muscles, right? Or at least, the ones you likely aspire to have.

Enjoyed the video on Pendelay rows but my focus kept going to whatever that thing was on the instructors chin. Kind of strange especially since was watching the video on my phone which makes everything very small.
Done them and don't feel s**t. Stick to the basics and stop with all those weird exercises. Not everyone can do them, I can, but I can't with heavy load and it just becomes an "cardio" type of exercise.
Dude say stick to the basics...not much people do this because its a old school BASIC exercise smh...and because your form is probably shit why u don't feel them, I feel them just right for where I'm targeting...its just a variation of the BASIC barbell row🤦🏽♂️

Couldn’t care less what he looks like. Information is solid, great instructional ability, clear and informative. More please!
Thank you
I've watched 3 videos trying to get this into my head. This explanation is what worked. Thank you!
Love the way this guy explains things. Great info
Good tutorial, short and to the point with clear cues. Thanks
Can’t wait to start adding these into my programming. I hope it carries over into my deadlift big time!
Love these segments, very informative brother. Salute to you!
Thank you
I appreciate this breakdown, particularly the implications of starting position.
This is an astonishing tutorial, I’ve followed the tips and my pendlay row is feeling awesome!!!
Glad it you found it helpful

Great straightforward explanation and options!
Really enjoying these guys videos, Tom's explanations are great as are/were naomis
Thank you, glad we can help
Great advice on a solid lift, definitely adding this to my program :)
I started off with Pendlay Rows when I was 15-16 years old. They're really underrated

I know Tom from Thibarmy. Dude is smart and is an expert coach
Absolute legend!
I’m a big fan of these I did them for my first meet prep last year I definitely felt them helping
Good video. Short, sweet, and to the point.

Will have to give these a try

Who gives a shit wot his look is i know one thing best explanation of pendly row ive seen on u tube
Is wide grip or close grip Better for these?
Depends what you want to target more. Narrower you go gives the lats more leverage versus upper back
Please just go to another channel if you guys gonna comment on someone's appearance.
Why specifically stating that before it happens 😅😏

Id still call this a pendlay row. Not everyone can row from the floor (with correct alignment) as it depends on wingspan relative to leg length
I like Tom's mohawk
Solid,detailed,effective,!
This is a great vid that's how it's done!!👌💪😃💯
I like the Pendlay Row more than the regular one

I like dumbbells Dead's row's and Reverse lat rows
Naomi with the toe shoes. Barefoot lifting / barefoot styles all the way 😊
pendleys or “floating” barbell rows for hypertrophy?
do the floorboards match the shower rods?
do yours

🤔.... I need to try this one
Hows the pendlay for lat development? Currently doing 90kg bent over rows 4x12. Lower back recovery takes a while sometimes.

I remember hearing Glenn talk about them. Man was a genius.
Yes, yes we was. And we have him to thank for these!

The uh nipple piercings and face piercings just make this man look like a clown, good tips but presentation is important too
