  • Introduction:
Dive into the complex world of castellated and cellular beams as we unravel the science behind their stress behaviors, failure modes, and design principles. Castellated Beams are wide flange beams with hexagonal web openings. Cellular Beams are wide flange beams with Circular web openings. This video is a must-watch for engineers and designers looking to deepen their understanding of these unique structural elements.
    Video Content:
    - Learn how castellated and cellular beams handle stresses due to global shear and bending moments.
    - Discover the mechanisms of Vierendeel bending and its impact on beam integrity.
    - Understand the failure modes these beams may encounter, including bending and shear failures.
    - Follow a detailed analysis of Vierendeel moment calculations and the interaction between global shear and moment across web openings.
    - Gain insights into the evaluation of axial forces and the flexural strength of the top and bottom tees according to AISC Specifications.
    - Explore the critical steps for checking the interaction of axial force and Vierendeel moment for optimal beam performance.
    - Uncover the design assumptions and calculations necessary for ensuring the structural efficiency of castellated and cellular beams under various loading conditions.
Enhance your structural engineering skills by understanding the intricacies of castellated and cellular beam design, ensuring your projects leverage the most advanced and efficient design principles.

Thank you for this video. Please do Eurocode standards have provisions for beams with web openings?

Hi, the eurocode does not specifically tackle the topic of castellated and cellular beams. However you can use the same principles shown in this video to determine the local forces in the net section and web posts. Afterwards you can use the provisions of eurocode 3 Part 1-1 for calculation of shear, compressive, tensile, and bending strength.
