  • Every now and then we come across an extension that we want to use as much as a native tool... and make videos about it! Hang out with Tyson as he pushes the Bevel extension from mind.sight.studios as far as he can!

I would like to see you make these complex models.

It’s horse’s for courses, Sketchup primarily developed for architecture design but can do much more, but remember it’s a surface modelling application not a solid modelling one. Whereas Fusion 360 focus is aimed at mechanical/electrical engineering design and is a parametric solid modelling application.
Both have there place, each have there strengths and weaknesses.
You decide which one best suits your projects workflow
By the way I use both.
For me Sketchup is by far the most intuitive product use when compared to other modelling packages on the market.
Sketchup have a great team, keep up the good work 👍
Ps. The Bevel tool is a great addon to Sketchup along with many others enhancing the user’s productivity

To not have a native Chamfer/Bevel or fillet tool for 3d objects in a 3d editing software is ridiculous. But to then charge $800 a year for that software and tell your subcribers to spend more money on an unofficial extention is too far. This is the main reason I cancelled my subscription and moved to Fusion 360. Don't get me wrong I used the free version of Sketch up for a decade and then started paying for the professional version. But for the cost of that I could no longer justify paying for extentions that come standard in EVERY other 3d modeling software. I'm not sure if Sketchup is afraid to upset developers like Freddo by nullifying their extentions or not but as for the future of the company, this needs to change. I know I am not the only user who is beyong annoyed with this.

Your pint is well taken. Just to be clear though, Freddo and Mindsight Studios are both commercial developers so they are competing against each other.
I realise this is a rather strained comparison but the iPhone ecosystem is not so different. You could say ‘Why do I have to pay extra for apps that could be included in the operating system.’
Apple is perhaps creepier in that they take a cut of every app sale. Trimble just makes us pay to add extensibility to its program.

Your comment is understandable, even internally we have many different opinions on what should be native, and even what may seem a simple tool can be very difficult to implement natively. Your needs may differ, and absolutely, another tool may be a better fit. This pull of what should be an extension and what should be native will go on indefinitely, but we still appreciate the feedback. Cheers!

@@SketchUp Nonsense. That's just an excuse. If any other 3D app has this feature natively, SketchUp should have it as well. The majority of users would agree with me.

@Up If some third-party developers can do it, why it's "difficult" for you? Or it's just another excuse?

A great suggestion, I need to wrap my head around it a bit more, but definitely want to show OCL. Thanks

Does SketchUp itself ever actually advance with new features?
