I think it’s so important to highlight that it can be so dangerous to leave your baby in a car seat for extended periods of time, due to their airway being squashed. It’s fine if you’re running into the shop etc but really if out on walks or a longer shopping trip a carrycot is really recommended as lying flat is best for a babies breathing! (Not meant as a troll like comment at all I just wanted to highlight the safety aspect of it)

Absolutely this. I was going to say the same thing. It’s so dangerous leaving a newborn in a seated position for long lengths of time.

I thought this too as soon as she said she always used the car seat. It’s not recommended, and a carry cot is the safest option so the baby can lie flat. My 4.5 month old is still in her carry cot

Couldn't agree more. Plus a newborn is more comfortable lying flat. The bones and spine of a baby are still so soft and being curled up rather than lying flat can have long lasting affects on their skeletal system. It's worth taking five minutes extra to set the pram up. However clunky.

To any first time mum watching this take it with a grain of salt everyone is so different and our needs are to. Unfortunately you won't know until after baby is hear what you will actually use. I loved my muslin blankets. My best advice is stay with the basics and wait till baby has arrived to purchase things you're unsure about.

Yes!! I got bored and didn't watch the whole video but for instance, I saw Water Wipes on the thumbnail. My youngest has pretty severe eczema and every other wipes we bought all broke his bottom out with a rash. Water Wipes are the only thing I can use on him. We have a Moses basket, it was given to us by friends, and it was essential! She wouldn't sleep in a big cot at first at all, so it was essential for night. But also it's where she sleeps during the day for naps - I wouldn't know where else to put her down for naps in the living room that is safe and follows all the safe sleep guidelines (I don't think a baby nest is recommended for sleep). So I definitely don't regret the Moses basket!

One of the most important things in the first 6 months is letting the baby lay down and move how he needs.. and thats the reason why you need to use cots.. Car seats may cause a lot of demage in your childs health as the spine problems, head shape problems..

I love how different everyone's regrets are. I agreed with some and disagreed with some but that's the beauty of the diversity of the products we have our there now. We can find something for everyone most of the time ❤️ I think it just goes to show, don't buy too much or too expensive until baby comes along and you know what you and baby like or you notice what is missing that would make life easier for you personally.
I think unfortunately you'll never escape parenthood having no purchase regrets as the next baby could come along and be so different and then you need to buy completely different things!
I was surprised with the muslin swaddle blankets as I'm a massive fan but mainly to use to cover baby in car seat while in the car or out and also as a breastfeeding cover or surface cover if you want to put baby down on the floor etc. I think this is also the same with the next to me crib. It's quite a breastfeeding friendly product as you can just pull baby into you and feed whereas if you're already getting up for bottle feeds even if it's only to the other side of the room for the prep machine it probably doesn't make much difference! I would never buy the next to me cribs new though, only secondhand as brand new they are SO expensive for what they are! I think we got ours for about £70 in the end 😍
Love the fact that you're so confident about your own choices and what's been right for you xx

The reason for carrycots is that small baby’s shouldn’t be in a car seat for longer than 20/30 mins (still only 2 hours even when they are bigger) because of their lungs/spine/pelvis development. I think the best combination is a 0-4 car seat that can be used from birth and stays in the car and a small pram with carry cot (I have the bugaboo bee 5)

Everybody's list depends so much on their individual baby! I used to tell everyone that they HAD to buy a baby wrap and a swing because my first baby would not be put down in anything that wasn't in constant motion (swing, pram or car) so I carried him the majority of the time! And I literally don't know how I would have coped without those products. My second baby is the total opposite! Hated the swing. Couldn't get comfy in the carrier. Settles better when he's lying down on his own 🤯 Very low maintenance. My entire library of wraps/carriers hasn't seen the light of day this time 😅

I don’t like that systems like Doona encourage people to leave their babies in car seats for too long- as others have pointed out it’s not good for them. My 5 month old is still using the carrycot part of her travel system (day time naps in the living room as well as when outside) and we will convert it to a pushchair at 6 months or when she’s sitting up. But it is a kinda heavy pram so we may sell the system and get a lighter pushchair/buggy as we have already been using a different car seat anyway. We got it second hand and had plenty of use so I wouldn’t say I regret it but I don’t think it’ll suit us going forward. I regret buying swaddle bags as she preferred having her arms free so we stuck to blankets until she was big enough for a sleep bag.

I agree with most other then the pram one as it’s so easy to pop baby in a carrycot, also they need to be laid flat and not in a car seat. The other one I really want to stress is propping a babies bottle can be so dangerous so please don’t be tempted to do this, hold your baby and give them cuddles at feeding time, it’s good bonding time for them x

If you’re getting up to make a bottle then fair enough it doesn’t matter anyway but for me all I’ll have to do is reach over and pick him up, turn my night light on and breastfeed. Won’t have to get out of bed at all and he’s easy accessible for feedings and changes etc

My baby is 4 weeks today and some of your regrets are actually essentials for us:
    1) carrycot. Mila loves to sleep in it and we even take it into our living room so she sleeps in in during the day in the house 😅 perfect to move her around the living room (ours is big) keeping an eye on her and keep her away from cat’s attention (for this reason I prefer it to Dockatot).
In the car seat baby is squashed and I always sit at the back of the car when my boyfriend is driving to keep an eye on her and check if she is ok - I’m paranoid that she might have difficulty with breathing in it. So car seat is my biggest nightmare 😂
    2) nail clippers - we use them every other day. Use them when baby is SLEEPING, so she/he is not moving around. I wouldn’t use adult’s clippers - they are way too huge. I tried biting too and clipping was much faster and neater way of removing the nails. However, I’ve been a lash technician for years, so I must admit I have a very steady hands, maybe that’s why it’s easy for me to use clippers 🙌🏻.
    3) swaddle muslins. I didn’t manage to swaddle Mila too, however I use swaddle muslins every day as:
    A) cover for the carrycot on the sunny day to keep the baby away from the sun
    B) “bed sheet” for carrycot and for Dockatot.
    C) blanket! It’s big, so you can play with folding it to create different levels of “warmth”. If you fold it once - it’s a perfect dat blanket, fold it 4 times - it’s a warm cosy evening blanket.
    D) Cover for breastfeeding. When you are breastfeeding outside, it needs to be discreet. Nothing better than swaddle muslin - it’s massive and covers you well. It also super light, so baby is not hot snd can breath well under it.
I use all my 3 swaddle muslins (I bought a pack of 3) every single day and don’t know what would I do without them 😅
I didn’t realised that cheaper version of water wipes can be bought from any shop - will definitely try it. So far I tried normal baby wipes and Water wipes and prefer water wipes as they are more moisty and clean better - less skin rubbing.

Omg you should NEVER prop a bottle up like that!! Such a dangerous choking hazard and this does not follow responsive feeding principles at all. How are you supposed to know when you’re baby is full and satisfied when they’re essentially being force fed by gravity? Feeding should be a time for bonding with your baby, not propping the bottle so you can get on with something else 😢. Please if anyone sees this do not do this! Babies have died from having bottles propped up in front of them and parents falling asleep or getting distracted x

Heat the pram up with a hot water bottle, put baby in layers and insulated snowsuit, take hot water bottle out, put baby in with nice heavy blanket and foot muff, see-through pram cover to protect again cold gusts of wind and out we go.

Water wipes (brand) and other 99% water wipes do not have the same ingredients. I strongly suggest reading the ingredient list before suggesting that they are. We used them only when going out of the house, use water and wool at home! :)
Also, having baby in a car seat for more than 2 hours requires an hour break in between, as it may hurt their physical development, as well as lungs.
Baby swaddle blankets are great for summer babies to be used as blankets. Used them for 2 years straight with my first kiddo :)
Some baby nests can be used overnight, some can't, always check. I think sleepy nest can be, but always check.
    Otherwise, I agree a lot!
P.s. bottle dryer is great for people who bottle-feed using breastmilk, as it doesn't need sterilising. If you're formula feeding, then it makes sense not to be using a drying rack! :)

Agreed on the sleepsuitd and no need for outfits. But the Newborn carrycot worked perfectly and was a must for us as paediatric recommendations are that they don't spend too long in their car seats and it's best for them to be completely flat. So for long walks it was a must.
Also the soft toys, I reckon that completely depends on the baby because our little one loves every single stuffed toy! He sleeps with one every night and wouldn't be without it. He also prefers them for his teething, and plays with them during the day. So you just never know.

I always used baby nail scissors on my daughter as I’ve seen infections on babies with the biting method. She now has a 4 month old son and I cut his nails the same way. I thought the baby nest was a waste of money but my daughter got one and my grandson has been sleeping through since he was 12 weeks. He LOVES it.

Great video, but I disagree with the pram, babies should always be laying flat when out for walks etc, long periods of time in the carseat is dangerous.
They sleep so well in a pram, if your visiting anyone they can nap in the pram, some are even safe for over night sleeping if you stay away from home.

Regarding your travel system: my only note is that a newborn should not be in a car seat for more than an hour, if you can help it. Naturally, if your drive is more than that, it can't be helped. But longer outside of driving is bad for their back and hips as they develop. So if you dislike the cot, maybe consider babywearing when you get out of the car.

  • @susannahdenhart4261

Good to note it’s not recommended to leave a baby with bottle propped up like that, they don’t have the opportunity to have a break from feeding, take in air or stop feeding when then have had enough so maybe just don’t prop up any bottle to feed a baby and leave it there

After 3 children, we have never had a baby capsule to take the baby from, the car to the pram. We had 0-8yo car seats for each babe, then would baby wear them then out mostly. Prams are awesome for exercising and walking at pace / running. At the shops, baby wearing is so much more convenient. You can push a regular trolley and manage the extra kids easily. Jack the baby in and they resettle straight to sleep if they were sleeping, or can BF if wanting to, or just be happy close to mum or dad. It's the best!! We miss that now they're older and all want to walk... 😒 🤣

Nuna pipa lite rx (carseat)/nuna pipa next stroller. All interchangeable. You can use the carseat as a stroller forward and rear facing and same with the stroller. The stroller has a newborn position all the way up to toddler forward facing position. I researched stroller-carseat options for 2 months. So happy with this system. The wheels are durable and go over every terrain. The suspension on the frame is great. The rx lite carseat can also be used with the base or without a base and just a seatbelt if you are in a car, plane etc and its the lightest on the market at the time I purchased it. It also has a shade canopy for sunny drives and the stroller has an expanded canopy with peek-a-boo windows on the sides and the top of the stroller. Best baby purchase ever. I agree with all of these regrets…too many clothes and too many hooded towels. 😊

Half of regrets of most parents is that it was inconvenient for the PARENT but not necessarily the baby. Like biting nails is convenient but not safe due to bacteria. Cold water sterilizing tablets is convenient but it’s chemical sterilizing instead of pure water steam. Get rid of lime scale by using filtered water jug. Doona stroller that parents love is convenient for parent but not safe for baby. It’s illegal to use in some countries.

I'm in the US. It's intresting seeing what's on the market in the UK. I just had my 4th baby, so not a 1st time mom. I do actually use a lot of these. I do agree that the diaper (nappy) bins are a waste of money tho. I never used that with any of my kids.
Our stollers (what you guys call prams) look completely different. I do regularly use my baby wrap and muslin receiving blankets. I think that's just a preference, depending on the mom. I also use the bottle drying rack, changing table, hooded baby towels, baby clippers, sterilizing bags, and pack and play.
The moses baskets are not sold in my area anymore but I wish I had one. The US is super strict about what babies can be in. The sleep standards have changed with each child. My oldest had crib bumpers, now they cannot have anything in the crib but the crib sheet.

  • @ladynorewa
    @ladynorewa 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    My holy grails are:
    - the Snuzpod Now, I know you just said that you regret buying a bedside crib but I am breastfeeding and my daughter is super fussy when it comes to positions, she prefers laying down whilst I feed her, so a bedside crib is super convenient for night feeds, you zip the side down, give the baby your boob and you're good to go
    - baby wraps I don't like baby carriers, they're bulky and I don't find them as comfortable as a wrap. Again, my daughter is super fussy and when she started teething she needed constant cuddles and a wrap is much better for that.
    - white noise machine or a smart speaker (we have a Google mini in the nursery), my daughter absolutely loves both music and white noise, so depending on the time of the day I always play something for her
    - a bouncy chair that vibrates (a simple one is fine)
    - crinkle books
both me and my husband are bookworms and I want to turn our baby into one and so far she absolutely loves crinkle books, so fingers crossed she will have a passion for normal books later on 😂
    - nappy bin ours came for free with our amazon baby wishlist, it's a tommee tippee one but what we ended up doing instead of buying the refills is that we got a huge roll of nappy bin bags (costs about £15 on amazon) that fit into the cassette thing that comes with the bin and we refill that by hand. It is a bit fiddly but it takes about 3 minutes to get it done and it lasts for absolute ages.
Bear in mind that everything I mentioned apart from the baby wrap and the nappy bin, I bought second hand. I kept her wardrobe fairly small (or at least tried to, but most of her clothes were gifted to us), the changing table we have is the one you can turn into a bookshelf (IKEA), again I got that second hand. The only thing I kind of wish we didn't buy were the swaddle blankets, I can use them in the buggy or when she passes out somewhere other than her bedside crib or the cot in the nursery but we don't use them as much as I thought we would. Luckily I only bought one set from aden+anais (in tk maxx) so I don't regret it, it's just not as important as I thought it was. The other two blankets we have (one was gifted, the other one was knitted by me ages ago) were super useful in the winter because she preferred to be wrapped up in one, even with a pramsuit on her. She still prefers an extra layer on her 🙄

Hey I’m thinking of getting one but have seen some conflicting advice - do you have to supervise them at all times when they’re in the sleepyhead? Thank you ☺️

@@shannonryan32 yes you do, they aren’t recommended for sleeping, nighttime or prolonged use

I’m so conflicted about the carry cot! We have a cybex car seat which lays flat so baby can safely be in there for up to 2 hours, but we also got a carry cot for days out when she was going to be in the pushchair for longer. She really likes it and we have used it a lot, but it takes up so much space in the car with the pushchair frame in the boot it barely fits! 😩
I agree with most of the others except for the swaddle blankets! We got the Velcro ones and she literally won’t sleep without one 🤣 we’ve tried to swaddle with a big muslin or cellular blanket but she just wriggles free and then cries about it. So funny how different babies have different preferences for sleep!

You have no idea what's to come! You already love her BUT YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH YOU WILL LOVE HER UNTIL YOU MEET HER AND GET TO KNOW HER AND OMG MY BABIES 3 MONTHS OLD AND I DIE EVERY DAY WITH HOW UNBELIEVABLE SHE IS. WOW.

Babies should only be in a car seat for 30 mins to an hour. Convenience for the parent shouldn't mean compromise for the babies health imho. I always go for a maxi cosi car seat but I always use the lay flat carrycot up to about 3 months of age then a lay flat seat unit that I can sit them up a little bit in. But so so bad to always have them in car seat :/ this is my 3rd and advice has been the same since I had my first 14 years ago 😳

I use the Grace contour Electra and it was a god send with my last, won’t even be bothering with a proper cot for this one cause the contour takes baby up to a junior bed age 💪🏽

Just to let you know about water wipes, huggies wipes are 99% water too and fragrance free. I’ve just been using those instead of going specifically for the Aldi ones, they’re easier to find in stores.

I would never put my tiny newborn into an ergo… that’s why I got a wrap so I could use it first few weeks when they baby is so fragile. I love my Ergo when the baby gets bigger

I’ve ordered the Jané Matrix car seat, it can lie flat so it’s both the car seat and carrycot for the pram! It can lie flat on the isofix in the car too.

Our family just kindly purchased for us a silver cross stroller that has pieces for 2 kids, one like a mini bed like yours and one for a little kid, and bought a car seat with it that can be attached to it instead for that reason, haven't received it yet but after listening to your experience i think I'm happy our family suggested that. Felt bad we couldn't choose the pieces from the beginning coz it was a pack and had to buy the car seat as extra, now feel better, seems worth it.

Never owned a carry cot. From about 6 or 8 weeks my baby went into the regular seat strapped in laid flat and he survived

Zippy baby grows are the best we are using them for our 2 month old baby and we will only be buying them for him from now on ❤

I personally have to say that I don’t mind the snaps on the suits but everyone has different needs. My bubba was little and in the hospital a lot and the suits with the snaps are great when they are attached to monitors and things. Because of that I guess I just got really good at doing them up quickly.
I think if you are going to get a suit with a zip get one with a double zip and fold over hands and feet. It makes nappy changes easier, and if you do need to have your baby attached to monitors it’s a lot easier.

Ugh I’m a first time & totally get it. I kept on spending money & buying stuff that have high reviews which end up being not practical or useless 😩
