Hicham El Guerrouj is also very good. Maintains a very good form and stride length even when he is tired. I guess every runner out there aims for this. Anyway, nice video. Thanks
KB is a bit better, in my humble opinion. Also in my humble opinion, running form is critical for both efficiency (and therefore, your speed- at any distance that is) as well as longevity, or evading injuries.
KB only has a great form when he's running track at full throttle wearing spikes. On the marathon, he's a full pledged heel stricker and is always injured...
Cool to see a Chelimo tribute video. While there are so many great athletes, something about Chelimo's stride always gets me. And yes, going barefoot is key.
Oh my god! I didnt know a human can be so efficient! He makes mo farah look like a "heel striker"! And mo farah is also art! their running form is breathtaking!
This video literally changed me from a 17 min heel striking 5Ker with Achilles problems to a sub 15 min guy on the roads. I can’t thank you enough. Ive never had a good coach so how else would I have known?
Thank you, Chris! Sub 15 min is an elite level run. Congrats, mate! I assume you imitated this "form" and then, changed your running mechanic? I would love to hear from you about what you did and how the content of this video exactly, helped you, in details?
Heel striking will give you a knee injury in the future. Your knee absorbs all the force and weight of your body in heel strike. Thank God you've changed it. If you don't mind me giving you some tips, always keep your foot dorsiflexed. This will eliminate you're over striding, your foot will land correctly (balls of your foot) and will give you the push to move forward. Also move/lift your leg with your thigh (NOT with your knee or foot), doing so will automatically lift your knee and foot. This will give you a good running stride. Lastly strengthen your arm, cause if your legs fails you, your arm swing will save you (its so sad newbie coaches doesnt teach this to their runners). And please dont over swing your arms (your hand should be aligned or up to your chin on the upswing and wont go beyond your hips on the downswing). The key to efficient running is to be relaxed throughout the run. This is how you'll know if you are relaxed, sing your favorite song out loud while running. The way you sing it should be like the way normally sing it, you shouldnt be gasping for air. Thank you and keep on running!
the guy running with Chelimo was a pacer, in a 5k and he finished second to Dejen Gebremeskel. But yes, he has an amazing running style, a very high kick, like Bekele.
I think it's hard to claim one runner as having the "best" form. There are very objective traits that characterize good form, but there are many factors bio mechanically that lead to efficiency, and no runner has them all. Eliud kipchoge is the one who is closest, I think. Paul chelimo has incredible running form but so does every other world-class athlete (barring a few, obviously).
I think peak kenenisa on track is on anohter level to be honest. The way his leg folds is the shortest lever possible, his feet and legs have movements during the swing phase that no other runner I have seen has
Sorry to say that Farah does not come close to compare with the likes of Kipchoge and Bekele. Farah jumps too much and his cadence is not as efficient either. Farah is a great runner but if we are judging only on running form, he falls short of Bekele and Kipchoge Even Chelimo falls a bit short. Although, very fluid and relaxed.
All these great runners I've seen in a video credit barefoot running. Chelimo, Rudisha, Kipchoge, Gebreslassie. Bekele didn't even wear shoes until he was 16 years old. Trying to learn your natural running form whilst wearing shoes is like trying to play darts with a blind fold on.
Exactly. It's the key to everything and no one is mentioning it. Instead, everyone is buying 300 dollar 'super shoes'! As for me, I went the barefoot/ minimalist way once I discovered it back in 2018 and even though I'm 50 now my running form and performance have never been better.
@@bigbattenberg Them shoes are the biggest con ever they're only faster because they managed to make a cushioned shoe weigh the same as a traditional racing flat which most people don't have the natural biomechanics to run in. I'm beating people wearing xero hfs and I run silently whilst they stomp around in their super shoes. Good that you stuck to minimal and are enjoying healthy running through middle age you're lucky but also smart. It does take some time to allow the stride to program with minimal shoes where you can run everyday for high mileage without sore legs. It's so much more fun when you can FEEL the ground.
@@natesilvers2166 Agreed on all points! I do have little aches and pains now and then and high mileage has never been my thing anyway, I get by on about 20-25 km/ week but still run a sub 20 5k. And yes it is nice to beat people of all ages in hyped shoes that's for sure. To me the barefoot running extends to much more than just running, it's a life philosophy!
thanks for the video , i have to agree with you, the man has a beautiful ,relaxed ,efficient form . many runners actually have great forms : Kenenisa , Eliud , sam wanjiru .
Bander, its good that you believe that a good running form is a factor in efficient running. Sad to say there is no perfect running form. Just like technology, running form changes throughout the years. The running form in the 80s (which we thought was perfect) is different from the form we used in the 90s and today. Well I guess people will discover a better form in the future. By the way thanks for sharing the vid. And your insight will definitely help newbie runners out there. Keep up the good work. Keep on running.
The importance of running form is for the most part an individual matter. What works for Chelimo will not work for a dude that is 80 to 100 lbs overweight. Lightness, age and natural talent makes it alot easier to replicate Chelimo.
Come on...you have never seen Herb Elliot (1960 Olympic 1500 meter champion) in "full flight"? Like all runners who exhibit "great form" the secret (if there is one) lies in their state of body organization. And the most important factor for "great body organization" is maintaining critical length from your feet through your lower pelvic floor. Note the very, very narrow "corridor of operation" when Chelimo strokes with both his right and left legs. You should always view this aspect of a runners form from the posterior view (when the runners is running away from the camera).
Sorry man, but the form you are talking about is typical of Kenyan runners and has to do with their morphology. A runner who knows his business would have noticed how Paul Chelimo's heels almost touch his buttocks. That is a sign of a runner who doesn't control his stride.
His running form is good I agree, but he is an arrogant person and it carries over to his running. He has no respect on the track for his fellow runners, Zurich was a good example of that.
You could always go back and learn how to spell believe correctly. Coming at the start of your video it sets a bad feeling for anything you say later since the viewer is like geez this guy can't even spell.
Hicham El Guerrouj is also very good. Maintains a very good form and stride length even when he is tired. I guess every runner out there aims for this. Anyway, nice video. Thanks
Thanks for posting this. Yes Chelimo has amazing running mechanics, it's a pleasure watching him. I hope he can medal again in Tokyo 2021
trully awesome! that downhil form though...just wow! his arm-pumping very strong, indeed. nice vids. thank you for upload mate...
I think David Rudisha has the most perfect form especially at the London 2012 Olympic Games
look at wilson kipketer, asbel kirpo and hicham el guerrouj
and for long stuff sele,on barega, and kenenisa bekele
@@robinbauer1975 bekele has inefficient form…. Even though he’s so good

@@felixoconnor6802 berlin 2019 he had his old form again but now in the marathon
He has a beautiful running form, I wish I could run that way.
Don't know u ,but hve this belief ,u can still, only if u can stand up and give it a try
Thanks for making this. It was a joy to watch.
Eliud Kipchoge has the best runing form and cadence of all distance runners by far..The G.O.A.T!!!!
Agreed
Marino de Oliveira agreed
Definitely, hicham el guerrouj had the best form as well let’s say . Check that out
Farah has the worst cadence but is many time Olympic and world Champion

Kenenisa , rudisha is perfect as well
Rudisha another one who credits barefoot running for his technique.
Cool to see a Chelimo tribute video. While there are so many great athletes, something about Chelimo's stride always gets me. And yes, going barefoot is key.
When he was on the track U finally noticed. His feet land just an inch or 2 in front of his hips and his heel reaches his butt. It's so amazing
There are quite a few I can think of as well.. The senior Bekele, El Guerouj, Rudisha etc
did i see him keep wiping his lips with his hand every few metres or my eyes playing tricks on me?
I see it as well
Yeah
It's not the lips what he's wiping man it's the sweat
i'am salivating over hes marathon debut

what do you think about hands crossing the chest? Bekele and Kipchoge do it but I've read many times not to?
Emmanuel Lui Victor Arespacochaga
My coach told me no to do dosiflex. Because dosiflex causes shin splint. Is it wrong?
Kipchoge does not dorsiflex and with an interview by NN team on Facebook he said he has never had shin splints.
