- The 11th of October 1797. British Admiral Adam Duncan defeated the Dutch fleet commanded by Admiral de Winter; it was here that Jack Crawford 'nailed his colours to the mast'. A momentous victory for the Royal Navy that is wrongly overshadowed by the more famous Nelsonic battles.
