- In the biggest test of his fledgling career, rising heavyweight Gerald Washington took a step up to face rugged veteran Amir Mansour in a PBC on FS1 main event from Shelton, Wash.
Washington controlled the fight in the early rounds by making the best use out of his notable size advantage, using his jab and maintaining the fight from the outside. But Mansour stayed aggressive and in the middle rounds began to work his way inside, making the fight uncomfortable for the former USC defensive end. Washington rallied for a strong finish, and the fight ended with both fighters feeling as though they'd done enough to get the win. Neither left satisfied, as the fight was scored a Majority Draw.

What frustrates me is that once the shorter fighter gets in and does some work, the ref automatically steps in and separates them completely bringing them far away from each other. Then the shorter guy has to work his way back in again which consumes more energy. Being short is so hard on a fighter.

I have to say that Washington is atleast defensively responsible and has good footwork. The fact that he was on the backfoot against a smaller fighter despite landing the jab shows hes not an great boxer.
He has a straight right hand but its not active enough, he has no second gear it seems.

It's much easier as a tall fighter...just keep your distance, CONSTANTLY fight on the backfoot, and jab. That's it for the tall guy. Less energy used.

Well you said he was running like a girl so I wanted to see if you were man enough to admit that Mayweather does the same but truth be told I don't think Washington was running like Mayweather does. Virgil is the most biased manipulative commentator I've seen in a while(not just based on this fight) and he certainly would praise Mayweather for fighting defensively while speaking low of Washington for fighting defensively in the same breath.
I Dont Mayweather neither Tyson Fury this guy was good on first 2 Rounds than he Start losing his breath Amir chasing him every Round. This is a Fighter not a Sisy like some other Fighters.

Gerald ran the last four rounds, you can't give him rounds when he isn't doing anything outside of huffing and puffing. It was a close fight but I had Mansour up 96-94, I can see a draw but Washington winning? I'm not sure about that. 97-93 is ridiculous.

Washington is definitely not a boxer,no snapping jabs,just pawing, not many punches,when hes the bigger man so their is no need for all the running, no guard, no combinations...just really not a boxer at all...poor trainers as well,stick too football, because he damn sure can't box!
This was a good fight mansour did destroy washington body and was more active but washington boxed very well the 1st four rounds and 5th good call but washington is the up coming star just on that he should won.

virgil was bit too biased, first four washington, next four to the mansour, 9 th round was critical, washington landed many shots as virgil was thinking or saying that mansour was doing the work, again tenth round mansour was just the afressor but washington landed a few jabs. u gotto watch closely... so last two rounds was washington, it was six rounds to 4. u just cant give the fight to mansour coz hes "TRYING" tryings some times not enough in this tough tough world..

...they robbed Mansour with this draw - he's 43 and with this decision they slowed down his career progress until now he should've boxed at least Bermane Stiverne or Pulev or at lest someone from Top15

Lol..Mansour started telling the truth then he started his nonsense. While I agree that Washington did not land a lot at a certain point in time he outlanded Mansour and he outboxed Mansour and he busted up Mansour's face and he hardley got touched by Mansour. He blocked and slipped and rolled and move out of the way of most of Mansour's shots because he established range with his jab. I had him win the first 5 and last 2 7-3 being the score but it is what it is. I am with Adelaide Byrd on this one. He does though need to make Mansour or whoever pay a bit for coming in and when they trying to get their wind punish them but Virgil was seeing stuff I wasn't seeing. I saw Mansour trying to coast when he should have stepped on the gas a bit and just make the smaller Mansour taste some more leather. But he outboxed Masour and is very athletic. I wish he had done a little more to be more convincing but I thought he won this one. Sorry I just don't see EFFECTIVE aggression by Mansour.

I'm honestly disgusted with judges blind biased scores towards "prospects" aka 6'6 ft+ young guys with 10 wins vs Cab drivers. Breazale was a good example, was pretty much beaten by Fred Kassi, one judge didn't give Kassi a round. Wonder why? That's what happened tonight, except Mansour beat Washington much better than Kassi beat Breazale, and got the draw.
Ik you're looking for the "real deal" in one of these undefeated young heavyweights. You're not going to find it with the PBC trash like this guy. The only prospects are the guys who've payed their dues and made good amateur careers, not coming into HW boxing getting by on size alone. Anthony Joshua, Dillian Whyte, even Joseph Parker, young men like THEM who've put in the work and are now on the roads to championship or title shots because they're good and don't need gift decisions to get by.

I give it he got a couple body shots in but what else did he do....the answer absolutely nothing. He just stormed in and was hitting gloves or swinging at air. The judges did not like that Washington was moving off the backfoot all the time seeing he was the much bigger man and gave Mansour rounds for coming forward. Mansour was NOT effective in his aggression....eating punches is in no way effective aggression. He could take a punch but those straight rights were busting up his face man! He was eating them and coming but you don't get points for that.
I wish washington was not so complacent in the middle rounds he started to super coast and not throw much. His couch said his conditioning was good it was his mind that relaxed too much. He thought he had the fight in the bag and didn't do much at all offensively. Washington went through his first 10 rounds but he picked it up a bit in the final two. I wish he upped his level a little more.
***** Punch stats aren't really relevant unless it's completely one sided. There's other aspects: Effective agression, won by Mansour. Ring generalship, won by Mansour (Washington was literally running, like his arms were down and he was barely punching back and backpedalling very fast running I mean), and Washginton gave up pretty much those last rounds because of that. Mansour won, the fans had him up, the commentators had him up, 1/3 judges had him up, it was close, but Mansour won.

Exactly! Washington was down 1 punch at the beginning of round 8 yet he finished the fight up 9 punches with a Higher connect percentage, he beat the dog shit out of Mansour 4 rounds and easily took two of the late rounds. The numbers don't lie. People just don't understand the sport.

I get it's not great to watch for us as viewers, however tactically it was the right tactics to try and keep the distance but he was gassed and so wasn't as effective at range.
I thought Mansour won this personally but early on Mansour wasn't cutting the ring off well enough.
