I used to shop at the original C & A and was upset when they left. I worked all over Leeds City Centre as a teenager and thank you for this look back in time.

I remember the Bond Street shopping centre, I believe it was originally on one level but subsequently acquired lower and upper floors. I think the design of the Trinity Centre is superb with ingenious connections. Thanks for this interesting history of the area.

fascinating, thank you. I came to Leeds in the very late 90s and remember that Waterstones/Habitat precinct and how dilapidated it had become.

Fantastic video ( as all your videos are). I have lived in Leeds all my life ( 73yrs) and these insights to the buildings and areas of Leeds are fascinating. Thanks for all your hard work

Having been born in Leeds in 1947 it’s so nice to see you summery of the changes that have taken place. Many thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. ………

Thanks for this trip down memory lane. I remember the plan for the walkways. The only other piece that I can remember being built was from the Bond Street Centre, across Park Row and along Infirmary Street. I am told that the Bank of England building on King Street also had some walkways built (maybe this has also been covered on this channel).

Thanks Stephen. You are correct, the Bank of England building still has some. It is covered in the King Street video.

Thanks again G J for another interesting history lesson. There was another overhead walkway proposed sometime around the Victoria Qtr project if I remember rightly. That was going to go from where Boots was in Briggate to Queen Victoria St. in the end it was just Qn Vic St as we now have.

Well presented as usual, Thanks... @04:00 there's a Subway shown on Briggate, Wonder when that was filled in ?
What were all those people doing on Boar Lane in 1944 ?

Thank you. The subway was closed at the start of the 80s. I am not sure if it was just capped off and covered over, or completely filled in. The people are queueing for trams to take them to Roundhay Park. The occasion was a Whit Monday Bank Holiday during the Second World War, which for many must have been a rare opportunity to get away for a day out and forget the troubles of wartime, heading for the baths, Waterloo Lake, or to watch the cricket.

Would be very interested to see a similar video on Water Lane. Another street split into two with the original running right through where Asda House is now.

It looks like pedestrians have lost several rights of way by the closure of Bank Street & Cross street.

Yes, I thought that. You could still pass through most parts after the Trinity Street Arcade was built, but less so after Trinity Leeds? It is making me wonder whether Trinity Leeds is closed off out of operating hours? I will have to check.

I still have a very warm CANADA jumper that I bought at that C&A shop. It gets warn about 3 or 4 times during the winter.
