Thank you for the vid. Let me add few points (1) the tension check should be done with the bike on its stand and the rear wheel off the ground (unloaded) as belt tension increases as load is applied to the rear suspension (2) use a cable tie wrap (or similar) to apply 5Kg (11 ponds) of downward tension on the middle of the lower part of the belt (normal deflection should be around 32mm) (3) the blue dot/mark 7:37 does not make any sense to me unless the rear pulley is oval which is not the case on my motorcycle nor I have the mark. (4) I found on a BMW forum the follow which makes lot of sense to me: "As you sit on the bike the belt gets even tighter. I sit on the bike and twist the belt where it is exposed just behind the rear brake master cylinder. I set the tension so the belt will twist to 45 degrees from flat with a reasonable amount of pressure."

    Excellently done, sir!
BMW have made this a logical and straightforward process.
I'm looking at a MY 2014 model and the seller wasn't sure when the belt was last done.
    Thank you!

Hi there.... great video for us, bmw f800st owners. You don't say nothing about silentblock replacement which has to be done when you repalce the belt.
Years ago I had my belt changed by my bmw dealer, some months later I realised the crown was moving by hand and the belt was not in the right place.
I went to the bmw dealer after cheking the bill and at that ponit I saw no works were done on the crown. The dealer asumed their mistake and changed the crown silentblocks. Since then everything works fine again, belt on place and crown without slack.
I opened the crown every two years just to check it and to put some grease to avoid that anoying "old bed spring" sound.
Woud be great a valve clearence video, that would be my next chalenge😂

This is one of the best technical videos I have ever seen on Facebook. I happen to be buying an f-800 ST which only has 6,000 mi on it so I don't really need to do it for a while but I was curious about the process. This was crystal clear it was well paced and the video and camera work was excellent. If I do pick up this bike and end up actually riding it I will certainly subscribe to your channel Have a cookie 🍪

Thank you very much! I just finished, everything’s ok except that I can’t adjust, I don’t have the tools and I’m afraid the belt is too loose. Is it possible to drive though? or is it too risky ? I just have to drive 20 or 30 miles before going on Monday to a bmw store for them to adjust.. Thanks in advance for your reply 🙂

BMW charged me nearly £500 for this job (£240 for the belt and £240 for labour) because the book says you have to dismantle the whole rear end of the bike.
When that belt broke (after about 5000 miles) I went to they guy down the road and he fitted a new (non-BMW) belt for a total of £150 (£120 for the belt and £30 for labour) because he put it on as per video (which may also _actually_ have been the way they did it at BMW).
The belt is still on there and in gwo 26,000 miles later

Thanks for the f800 content. I have a 2011 st. Would love to see you do a set of tires. You think it can be done with hand tools?

I was hoping you'd give some tip on what tension to try to get on the belt.....like "5mm of deflection" or something, but no. Darn

Good tutorial except it is still very vague how much tension the belt should have...😅 Could you specify a range of free play?

  • @Sweep29

Dont forgot that the F800ST has a different length belt than an F800GT so the info you state in the video is incorrect ie one belt fits all F800's.

    • @TheBMWGuy
      @TheBMWGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

in the description I have both belts, I said this procedure is the same for all f800's.

This video is pretty old now, but please see this. I'm trying to get the eccentric out of a 2013 F800GT and just cannot figure out how it comes apart. It looks like it has a retaining bolt keeping the whole thing from coming out, but there's no way to loosen that. Even turning the eccentric to its loosest adjustment doesn't leave enough room through a wheel stud hole to get a torx bit in there. Please help.

Hi, this belt is available for an F 800 ST 2009, for example? I’m from Argentina, and here the belt takes about 60 days to arrive from Germany.
