The Holdovers was absolutely amazing. My favorite movie of this year without a doubt. The '70s setting and aesthetic was perfect. This will become a Christmas classic in a few years for sure.
The best movies I’ve seen this year are Oppenheimer, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, Past Lives, and Maestro. I liked Killers Of The Flower Moon, but not enough to make it amongst the year’s best
Personal Top 10 10 - Talk to Me 9 - Oppenheimer 8 - They Cloned Tyrone 7 - BlackBerry 6 - Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves 5 - Godzilla Minus One 4 - Mission: Impossible 7 - Dead Reckoning Part 1 3 - Puss in Boots: The Last Wish 2 - Renfield 1 - The Boy and the Heron Honorable Mentions The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Evil Dead Rise, Wonka, Suzume, Asteroid City, Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Sound of Freedom, Air, Iron Claw, Gran Turismo, Sympathy for the Devil, Leo, Organ Trail, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, The Tunnel to Summer the Exit of Goodbyes, Anatomy of a Fall
I didn't see alot of films this year, I'll admit that. But of what I have seen, here is the top 10: 1. The Holdovers and Across the Spider-verse (tied) 2. Barbie 3. Oppenheimer 4. Godzilla: Minus One 5. Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret 6. Killer's of the Flower Moon 7. BlackBerry 8. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 9. Air 10. John Wick Chapter 4 HM: MI7, D&D, Creed 3, Nimona, Poor Things, Super Mario Bros., The Covenant, Elemental, Renfield, Blue Beetle, Dial of Destiny, Rise of the Beasts, Mutant Mayhem, Beau Is Afraid, and The Marvel's.
I totally agree with you about the big deal made about the run time of Killers of the Flower Moon. I could've watched 5-6 hours of this story. People gripe about a runtime and I guarantee whatever else someone is doing in their day, it's not gonna be as exciting as being in the theater an extra hour watching Killers of the Flower Moon.
I'm still working out my order, but here are my top 10 :) The Holdovers Past Lives Anatomy of a Fall Poor Things Maestro Saltburn Killers of the Flower Moon May December Barbie Oppenheimer I need to see The Iron Claw, American Fiction, and All of Us Strangers.
Yeah the Spanish/australian actor, Jacob Elordi, does a great impersonation of a posh jerk. But the movie felt like a spiteful 'Talented Mr. Ripley' Knockoff
Ok so another subpar year in movies compared to what we used to get. Here's my personal top 10 so far: 1- Killer of the Flower Moon. 2- Oppenheimer. 3- When Evil Lurks. 4- Master Gardener. 5- The Killer. 6- M:I Dead Reckoning. 7- To Catch a Killer 8- John Wick 4 9- The Three Musketeers. 10- The Creator. Most of these movies would rank way lower if I put them in any list pre 2015.
I really loved The Holdovers, But I have to say, Godzilla Minus One was definitely the best of the year; powerful, gripping, heartbreaking and then hopeful, not to mention thought provocking in the most meaningful way possible from beggining to end. Oppenheimer was just jarring in the worst possible way :/
Where is Gran Turismo? Was a fucking excellent movie, I rewatched 3 times. So fun, entertaining and engaging. Also Godzilla Minus one was another that left me speechless
Is one of those movies that are far more entertaining than half of the movies in this list but it does not look cool to even talk about it. I liked the movie but the main protagonist is not a very good lead choice.
Godzilla Minus One, Oppenheimer, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, and Across the Spider-verse were the only ones I enjoyed this year on the big screen, and the ones I will remember. Other than that, the Oscar bait and agenda-based movies were awful.
10. Godzilla minus one 09. Killers of the Flower Moon 08. Air 07. Past Lives 06. John Wick chapter 4 05. Beau is Afraid 04. Poor Things 03. The Holdovers 02. Spider-Man across the Spiderverse 01. Oppenheimer
I know technically "Return to Seoul" came out in 2022 in Cambodia but I think opened up everywhere else in 2023. Would it count as a 2023 movie. If so that is my number 1.
These are my Top 10 Best Movies of 2023 as of December 27th: 10. KNOCK AT THE CABIN 9. COCAINE BEAR 8. GRAN TURISMO 7. THE EQUALIZER 3 6. THE LITTLE MERMAID 5. ELEMENTAL 4. DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: HONOR AMONG THIEVES 3. KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON 2. SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE 1. WONKA These are subject to change because I still have to see some Netflix movies from the past year that received great reviews like NIMONA, THEY CLONED TYRONE, LEO, and MAESTRO. So, any one of the current Top 10 could be knocked out by any of these Netflix movies. A lot of you are probably wondering why OPPENHEIMER isn't in my Top 10. I was excited for this movie since first seeing the IMAX countdown trailer shown right before NOPE and a year later, I saw OPPENHEIMER in IMAX 70MM Film, but I found the marketing to be a bit misleading as the movie only has one action sequence which is The Trinity Test and some impressive visuals before that. After the humorous scene with President Truman who is actually played by an unrecognizable Gary Oldman, I was getting bored with all of the political talk, some of which I couldn’t understand at the time. Some parts during all that talking, I ended up getting flashbacks of some of the worst things that happened to me whether it was from my childhood regarding parents and teachers or the last few months with my toxic relatives, most notably my sister and one of my aunts. I love ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE and KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, but ATSV is a tad below INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE as it is basically half a movie where we won't see BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE until hopefully 2025 and KOTFM would've been better if it was shorter and the protagonist was a good guy like the BOI agent Tom White as originally planned. I wanted DUNE: PART TWO to be my favorite movie of the year, but we got robbed amid the actor's strike. However, and I am surprised as you are, a different Timothée Chalamet movie that became my favorite of 2023 is WONKA. It is the most beautiful and feel-good movie I've seen this year. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself!
i still puzzled at how Silent Night turned out to be. i thought Woo days are gone but here he goes again. Also I swore to never missed a Kinnaman's movie after tv show The Killing and was disappointed only once after that (i'm an 80's child so i knew that Robocop gonna suck even before watching but a bet is a bet)
Holdovers was even better than I thought. It was going to be absolutely great. It’s always a bit of a cheat and critics slip in an Oscar bait movie. No one has seen yet.
BARBIE got off to a promising start for the 1st...10 minutes & then sank into Austin powers type freaky silliness. Good only for its visuals, the set designs and props. What's wrong with the WONKA FILM, and M.E.G.A.N, (which I believe was this year).
I liked Barbie. I like that it felt like a musical and was very well paced and edited. And it was a comedy. That felt very rare to see a big comedy onscreen.
its so sad that there arent alot of these lists out there that includes godzilla minus one. unbelievable. there were so many movies out there that is way better than barbie. the only reason why barbie is gaining attention is because of the names attached to it. i personally think its completely overrated. the two main characters carried that movie. hollywood , america really wont let a foreign film ever beat them huh. its not yet bad enough that they had to limit godzilla minus one from getting an imax release for a freaking concert movie, they also have to stop it from getting nominated in some of the prestigious awards.
Holdovers was number 1 on my list, until I watched Godzilla Minus 1. While I liked Across The Spider-verse given that I don’t care for Seth Rogen I have to admit that Turtles beat it by a hair for animated/superhero film of 2023. John Wick Chapter 4 didn’t make my top 10 at all, that franchise pulled the Fast and Furious franchise foolery a lot faster than that franchise did which all the ridiculousness, cringe one liners, bad dialogue and so forth.
John Wick Chapter 4 (yes it was good for what it is) but the dude after 3 other movies/falls off a building and survived and now dies by a blind guy (yes he was a cool character) but a blind guy takes him out?! Waves and waves of people he takes out….no a blind guy gets him. I checked out after the 3rd movies bs. 4 sealed it!
Godzilla minus one shouldn’t have been a “mention”. It should be the winner. Then John Wick. Then Oppenheimer. Then killers of the flower moon. The rest was shit.
I only saw ten movies from this year so far, so, 1) Sound of Freedom 2) Killers of the Flower Moon 3) Mission: Impossible-Dead Reckoning Part I 4) The Super Mario Bros. Movie 5) Jesus Revolution 6) Napoleon 7) John Wick Chapter Four 8) Transformers: Rise of the Beasts 9) Gran Turismo 10) Champions I intend to watch Oppenheimer, The Holdovers, Godzilla Minus One and Ferrari at some point.
one of the lamest year in movies just like 2023, cant wait for it to END....but as usual Chris B throws in a surprise or two and I found it to b a very good list, my opinions on some of the movies I saw this year and how they r defined: - Oppenheimer, one of the most over rated movies ever made - Killers of the Flower Moon - great but overlong, Scorsese really needs to trim down his movies...its becoming a habit - MI:Dead Reckoning - great stunts & action but overlong and not really that great a story, Cruise misfired here, lol - JW4 - another great but overlong movie - Spider Verse - another overlong and thinly stretched albeit the best comic book movie of the year - Napoleon - slight let-down form the master Ridley but I bet the 4hr version will do it justice next year Apart from that, cant wait to watch Iron Claw, Holdovers and of course Mann's comeback movie - Ferrari
Very male gaze top ten list. Every women i know would put Barbie in top 5. Iron claw would be nowhere to be seen. John wick no Are you there god? it is Margret yes
pretty sure the post credit scene to oppenheimer is GODZILLA MINUS ONE, which is far and away the best movie of 2023.
Yes - in some ways that movie is the perfect post credit scene.
Barbenheimer was the cultural event of 2023. Past Lives was also a gem, and I hope that it gets nominated for a slew of awards.
Wonka kinda came out of nowhere and blew my 'not-a-big-fan-of-musicals' socks off. Joy and imagination in droves. Just as Roald Dahl intended
Word!!!
The Holdovers was absolutely amazing. My favorite movie of this year without a doubt. The '70s setting and aesthetic was perfect.

💜👍
The best movies I’ve seen this year are Oppenheimer, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, Past Lives, and Maestro. I liked Killers Of The Flower Moon, but not enough to make it amongst the year’s best
Oppenheimer was straight ASS
Agreed
Godzilla???
Hollywood needs the old-school auteurs like Scorsese and Nolan more than ever
Don't forget Tarantino and Spielberg

There were 10 good movies in 2023? I am going to have to watch this video, 😂😂😂
True!
Oppenheimer in IMAX 70mm film presentation was the best movie-going experience I had this year, by a very wide margin.
Anatomy of a fall best movie of a year
I didn't see alot of films this year, I'll admit that. But of what I have seen, here is the top 10:
1. The Holdovers and Across the Spider-verse (tied)

Can't trust any list that puts Godzilla Minus One as only an honorable mention.
Godzilla minus one is for me the best film this year .
I'm still working out my order, but here are my top 10 :)
The Holdovers
Past Lives
Anatomy of a Fall
Poor Things
Maestro
Saltburn
Killers of the Flower Moon
May December
Barbie
Oppenheimer
I need to see The Iron Claw, American Fiction, and All of Us Strangers.
Babylon, a man called otto, empire of light, asteroid city, barbie, a good person
The ZzzZZ list
The first three movies are 2022.
@CodyFairlessLee I live in Britain 🇬🇧 and they were all 2023 releases over here. I appreciate they were earlier in the usa
It would be nice if Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 be on the list or honorable mentions. It's a really good movie.
"The Holdovers" were probably my #1 movie for 2023.
Saltburn is my number one. Just from a cinematography level, it’s a visual masterpiece.
Yeah the Spanish/australian actor, Jacob Elordi, does a great impersonation of a posh jerk. But the movie felt like a spiteful 'Talented Mr. Ripley' Knockoff
Sony should let Phil Lord and Chris Miller in charge of their cinematic universe
They can save it from AVI ARAD
IMO "Tetris "is way better than "Air" .
I won't mention 10
But do want to give a shout out to Blue Beetle
A gem amongst the Superhero fatigue
I would love to see a movie again in the theaters. I just hate seeing people there.
The Boy and The Heron #1 to me!
Another great movie from 2023 is "No one will save you" its a great Sci-Fi with very little dialogue.
Ok so another subpar year in movies compared to what we used to get. Here's my personal top 10 so far:
1- Killer of the Flower Moon.
2- Oppenheimer.

7- To Catch a Killer
8- John Wick 4
9- The Three Musketeers.
10- The Creator.
Most of these movies would rank way lower if I put them in any list pre 2015.
Happy to see The Iron Claw so high up.
Hi, @Joblo. How is it different from the Golden Schmoes?
Oppenheimer > Barbie!
Godzilla Minus One is the best movie of the year, hands down
Sound of Freedom was my personal favorite, but this is a respectable list.
5. Creed 3
4. John wick 4
3. Oppenheimer
2. Spider man across the spider verse
1. Mission impossible dead reckoning
Dream Scenario is great too
I really loved The Holdovers, But I have to say, Godzilla Minus One was definitely the best of the year; powerful, gripping, heartbreaking and then hopeful, not to mention thought provocking in the most meaningful way possible from beggining to end.

06. John Wick chapter 4
05. Beau is Afraid
04. Poor Things
03. The Holdovers
02. Spider-Man across the Spiderverse
01. Oppenheimer
Across the Spider verse wasn't even that good, only half of a story
@NeverSaySandwich1 The other half is coming. Just be patient
@@NeverSaySandwich1 still had a structured beginning middle and end.
@@brannonhill4046in late 2025💀
It's bad movie fatigue, not superhero fatigue.

Surprised Barbie didn't make this list! Definitely not my favorite of 2023, but nevertheless it will become a true classic.
Godzilla Minus One is the only film that deserves to be on this list, the others are trash
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is my favorite movie of the year.
This is the first time I'm hearing that Poor Things exists. Somebody fire whoever is head of marketing there!
Bastarden (the promised land) is a gem 👌🏻
Godzilla Minus One. That is all
Godzilla Minus one is an honourable mention Really? I guess each one to their own

*I literally fell asleep during an Oppenheimer. Movie of year my 🍑!!*
The Iron Claw is the best movie I watched all year long
BARBIE got off to a promising start for the 1st...10 minutes & then sank into Austin powers type freaky silliness.
Good only for its visuals, the set designs and props.
What's wrong with the WONKA FILM, and M.E.G.A.N, (which I believe was this year).
Barbie is just a mashup of all the Evangelion movies IDC what anyone says
I can't believe The Marvels did not make the list.
Its in top 10 worst
It’s here
In the trash
I almost took you seriously until yoy got to Spider-Man that movie was garbage
Spider verse was disappointing. It had no real climax or conclusion.
I enjoyed barbie movie it was a fun movie to watch in the theater and super Mario bros movie and Oppenheimer were the best movies of 2023❤
Oppenheimer in 3 kinda a crime
The Iron Claw is the best film of 2023. Easily.
I’m sorry, Godzilla Minus One is only an honorable mention?
